Who’s the best team in Pike County??
This seems to be a hot topic in the area as to who feels they’re on top of the mountain in pike county. Waverly currently sits at 5-4 and will finish 5-5 and despite switching regions probably are looking at a round 1 exit. Their best win is against Miami Trace in week 1 and I don’t believe they could replicate that now. Outside of that they e had to hold on for wins against valley and Zane trace and just got bullied by Northwest. Waverlys coaches seem to keep talking about this so I figured let’s ask, Waverlys claim is eastern doesn’t play anyone and piketon is in the SVC.
Eastern a team with 20 plus regular season wins and their best win is against Miami Trace at a Miller in double OT. Eastern has played in some close ball games over the last couple years and keeps finding a way despite graduating a big class last season.
Piketon a team many kept saying this was their year sit at 6-3 right now with the big win over Paint Valley. Piketon’s 3 losses are by a combined 19 points so they’ve been in every game this year. There’s always that but the play in the SVC that will linger but Waverly plays 2 SVC teams as does Eastern.
Just curious the thoughts on this as I keep hearing a lot of talk in the area on the subject. Usually it’s just outside noise but with ppl within each program wondering this question or laying claim to it curious as to some answers on it.

According to Fantastic50 Waverly is the best team in Pike county with Piketon being second and Eastern being a far 3rd. This makes sense with the school sizes. Not sure what this thread is supposed to be about seeing as it’s not really a debate on 1-2-3 in the county.

IMO
Piketon would beat Waverly.
I have not seen Eastern play.

This is kind of how I see it as well, I do think if you look at them right now Piketon would beat Waverly, and I believe Eastern could make it interesting with both of them. It's a shame Piketon is in such a tough region.

Pretty easy to figure out there's quite a few out there that have seen 2/3 of them play, guessing you haven't since you want to post fantastic50 stuff that's going to base more on school size then team play. With all of them being up over 400 ranking pretty much throw that out the window.Dundas wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 10:15 pm According to Fantastic50 Waverly is the best team in Pike county with Piketon being second and Eastern being a far 3rd. Re: Who’s the best team in Pike County??
It's always a bit difficult to compare teams in different conferences that don't play. With that being said, Piketon's stock has risen in recent weeks, while Waverly's has dropped a bit. Waverly seems to struggle with teams that run the ball well (West and Northwest), and Buddy Wilson has been great for Piketon this year with 929yds (8.1ypc), and 11 TDs in just 7 games. Not to mention the Northwest team they just lost to 49-40, was shut out 25-0 by Piketon in Week 1. It'd probably be a pretty good matchup, and I don't think it's crazy to say Piketon would be the favorite.

Piketon should add Waverly back in the schedule and should get Eastern. They would get a huge gate if both were home in the same season

Re: Who’s the best team in Pike County??
There are 3 schools in the county, and none of them play each other. So this is a bit ... I don't know. Fantastical? All of the coaching staffs have overlapping histories with each other. Either being teammates, or being former players for these same current head coaches. They all have good relationships with each other, and I think some Eastern kids workout with Piketon kids and I know they do a 7v7 in the summer. I know Eastern needs to keeps growing their roster in order to play bigger more competitive schools and further grow the program. (They might have 30 kids on the roster, but with injuries and inexperience, they only play about 20 kids on the regular, maybe less. They're fortunate to have some JV games this year to get those younger kids some experience). It would be cool if Piketon and Waverly renewed the rivalry. And I've heard that Eastern has expressed interest in playing Piketon in the season... but it's never happened, for whatever reason.
Re: Who’s the best team in Pike County??
After playing both waverly and piketon I think it would be a great game. Lot of ppl are down on waverly but going into the season 6-4 was what ppl thought it would be. They play better teams than piketon. I’m obviously not a waverly coach so I can’t see what goes on at practice, but I would probably play 4 at the t and get 11 and 8 at ends
Have to play swords on def he is your best player. Piketon should go all in on buddy ball. Just block for him and give him the ball. These two should always play I know waverly was getting the better of it kind of like us vs waverly but like our games we have been able to start winning. Piketon could do the same then waverly will come back and dominate eventually, it’s always gonna go back and forth

Waverly Piketon and Eastern all three are good programs that win a lot of football games and have been successful for a while. Don't know much about Waverlys head coach but the other two have very good head coaches leading their programs.

Re: Who’s the best team in Pike County??
Might have a little SOC bias here but I just don’t see Piketon or Eastern beating Waverly. I know Waverly really struggles against the run. But they can throw the ball and play a beefed up schedule compared to the other two. Piketon is better than expected and that one could be a great ball game. But I don’t see eastern winning just on school size difference at all. Eastern also has one of the easiest schedules in the state

Re: Who’s the best team in Pike County??
Interesting but tough to judge with them being in different divisions and not a lot of common opponents between them. From a talent stand point both Piketon and Eastern are probably much more well rounded for the simple fact that in the trenches Waverly has just beaten every which way but loose. On the outside Waverly having 3 big Senior WRs and a 3 year starter at QB would definitely have the edge there. From a coaching standpoint I'd have to give Piketon and then Eastern but closely ranked together, Tyler is a great guy and surrounding himself with good dudes Eastern only being around for some 10 years or so and doing what they're doing one can't ignore what that coaching staff has done. For Waverly with all the issues with players and players leaving and not playing the inability to compete for the championship they're a VERY distant 3rd. When you have those types of facilities and can't keep players or build larger rosters it's a problem.
Re: Who’s the best team in Pike County??
Fantastic50 takes everything into account. I have watched film of every team this season. Eastern has found a way to finish out every game. They’ve had another incredible season. Piketon has played well and have put together a good year. Waverly has also been able to win some games but obviously have played the toughest schedule of any Pike county team. If all three played each other, I’d have Waverly as the favorite with Piketon second and Eastern 3rd. With that said, Pike County Football is solid from all 3 schools that field football teams and they should all be proud of what they’ve accomplished in the first 9 weeks of the season.Tigernation2021 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 11:14 pmPretty easy to figure out there's quite a few out there that have seen 2/3 of them play, guessing you haven't since you want to post fantastic50 stuff that's going to base more on school size then team play. Re: Who’s the best team in Pike County??
Would like to be able to easier answer this question by having some matchups occur between these teams in the future. At least renew Waverly vs Piketon, think both teams programs are closer now and would be great for the community and schools. I don’t see that happening anytime soon tho, unfortunately. What would be cool is to have a 3 team scrimmage between these 3 the first scrimmage of the year, could rotate locations and have concessions open, would be a fun way to see these teams face off but it not count against anyone. Or if Waverly and Piketon doesn’t want to play regular season have that game be the jamboree game, still get big gate and concession money for a scrimmage and guaranteed close travel for that as well.

That would make 0 sense IMO. Why drive an 1+ hour to play a school 15 min away from you and then in turn give Ironton all that gate money (maybe they give a kick back to each school playing, I’m not sure) and concession money? That would be very unintelligent.EagleNut14 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 25, 2024 8:59 am I heard that Eastern was wanting to play Waverly in the Ironton Showcase next year.

Each team would get a kick back, how much I’m not for sure? What about some of the kids that are looking to play in college? I’m sure a lot of scouts would be on hand that day watching games and could be a great way to get some exposure.

Re: Who’s the best team in Pike County??
It’s been a nice year for Pike County football overall
I think it’s probably still Waverly, but Piketon is closer than they’ve been in a while (besides 2021) and it’s pretty cool what Eastern has been able to put together in such a short time.

Re: Who’s the best team in Pike County??
My guess is most ppl would say the same thing. After seeing both teams vs unioto I think if piketon and waverly played early this year then I would go with waverly. If they played round when we played piketon I would go with the streaks. If they played right now I would go piketon by two scores. They are really good up front on offense. I think that 34 from piketon is best back in Svc.danicalifornia wrote: ↑Fri Oct 25, 2024 12:05 pm It’s been a nice year for Pike County football overall

I have watched all 3 teams this year. For what it’s worth which isn’t much. I would say at this time Piketon. They are the most physical team at the line of scrimmage from what I have seen of the 3 teams. Maybe don’t have as much depth or as many all around athletes but they are very aggressive on the line especially on the defensive side of the ball.
