MAC Schools and their success
I am astonished to see what the MAC schools do year in and year out. Does anyone have any insight to what makes them teams what they are? I know coaching is a huge part, and I also know a lot of them coaches have been there for a very long time. But what is it they are instilling in these kids at an early age? Does anyone know how practices are being ran? I guess I never really paid that much attention until Coldwater comes down to Massie this year and whoops up on them, then goes to Marion Local to get beat by 35. That puts everything into perspective for me. Why aren't we able to build teams like that around here?

Re: MAC Schools and their success
Just a hunch, but I doubt that they have any mommy’s and daddy’s crying to administrators or board members about playing time for their precious little boys and getting coaches fired. Probably not hiring coaches who only run three plays on offense for three years running and/or can’t make an adjustment when an opponent runs one formation and the same play over and over for a whole half either. Probably not crying about recruiting or having to play private schools. But like I said this is all just a hunch.Offtacklefor7 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 3:52 pm I am astonished to see what the MAC schools do year in and year out. I do not have time to watch their games but everything I hear or read about them is about TEAM. It is the team players, coaches and fans supporting each other to go win games. Even including the talk on here about the split the pot in one game going over $20,000. Winning is expected not just one team but the MAC teams make the best even better. Great job for all the small pieces that make up their recipe of winning. As they go out and play the game on the field.

Community backing from everyone involved and participation by almost every boy in the school. And the quote of “I’m playing the best 11 players at all times. Not the best 10 and your son”. Also the people from these communities that graduate tend to stay local to the area if not come back at some point

No school in the MAC has youth tackle fooball. Part of it is the culture that represents the school district, village/town, conference and surrounding area. High employment and median income above state average keep these communities strong, and keep people in the area. There are no transfers, whereas you see that elsewhere in state/country.Offtacklefor7 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 3:52 pm I am astonished to see what the MAC schools do year in and year out. Every sport(girls and boys) have a different program that is at the hierarchy. For football, that is Marion Local and eveyrone wants to beat them, be them. Same as New Bremen in Volleyball, and other sports...

False delphos has had tackle for 9-12 for as long as I can rememberJeaux Burreaux wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 10:10 am Community backing from everyone involved and participation by almost every boy in the school. Work ethic- many kids are farm kids, and are used to working morning, noon, and night. Daily football practice is easy in comparison.
Family- 2 parent homes are the norm, not the exception.
Team accomplishments are more important than individual accomplishments. How else do you lose upwards of a dozen starters year after year and still win state championships year after year?
Competition- MAC schools don't shy away from competition. Winning the MAC is as hard as winning the state. How else do you explain Ft. Recovery being willing to play Marion Local when 3 other schools wouldn't, in spite of losing 62-0 to them earlier in the year?

When every school has that type of success of having won a state title has to be no outside influence. " their motto it's harder to win the conference than a state title"

Its in the DNA, German catholics are just "tougher" than us Appalachian mutts. Ever watch a ML/Coldwater game? those kids play like their hair is on fire, then watch an SVC game and you see timid play with a lot of arm tackling. Not coaching, not schemes, not when you start them with tackle football, just tougher kids period.

Do they whine about transfers like wheelersburg?Jeaux Burreaux wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 10:10 am Community backing from everyone involved and participation by almost every boy in the school. Or whine about and run away from playing good programs like the OVC?
Do they drop teams from their schedule cause they get outworked by them like seo programs?
Nope. Lol
They are ambitious and confident and outwork other programs.

These kids come from more successfull and afluent and ambitious communities. Also better educated and healthier. It plays a big role.
The parents want to challenge their kids.
In seo if ya challenge kids to be better they vote that program out or drop em from the schedule and talk trash.

Same reason why MAC parents are more succesful than SEO parents.

I still stay with the opinion that they keep their coaches and don’t run them off.
I’m curious in who is the youngest head coach in their league.
I would bet the most of them have been there over 20 years.
And they manage to run the program the way they choose without no outside interference from the school boards or the parents.

Goodwin and otten and scholte 20 plus the rest have changed several times lot of teams like minster can be really good or have some Down years and it isn’t uncommon for a coach to leave after success to go to a bigger school at Henry had a legendary coach for year but I believe he retired few years backfielddaddy wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 12:15 pm I still stay with the opinion that they keep their coaches and don’t run them off.

Delphos St. John’s is a Mac school and they play youth tackle football from 9 years old to 12 years old

Re: MAC Schools and their success
Very simple:
Strong Community
1. Everyone has the same common goal
2 2 parent homes
3. Low crime and drug rates
4. High emphasis on academics and being involved in the Church
5. High expectations to win
6. Most of their kids are working on their farms before going to school-Strong Work Ethic
7. Community checks and balances-the community raises the child outside of the home
8. Keeping the standard high-no slacking off in any area.
This is why each school has won at least 1 state championship in something. One of their schools have participated in at least one state championship of various sports every year since 1972.
