Just want to make sure I read this right; West missed out on 2 touchdowns?? Dang that's the game right there

Yes early stop on 4th and goal at the one. And one of the backs gashed a big gain but got the ball stripped from behind just about as he crossed the end zone. Both in the first half

This one was tough for me to type. One of the sloppiest, least motivated, and poor execution games I have ever watched. And after all the mistakes, missed tackles, poor special teams plays, still had a chance to win going into the fourth. I’m just scratching my head as to why the motivation was basically at 0. Round two of the playoffs against a team that you can most certainly beat and that is the product on the field. They just dropped the ball. I can handle losing to a better team. That was not the better team. Matter of fact that was one of the most undisciplined and dirtiest team I have ever watched. Is what it is at this point but there should be some soul searching as to why the loss looked the way it did. Lose a ton of key pieces this year but I also believe we will have the best back in the conference returning for a junior season and some more solid players. They will be alright.

And one more thing. I am utterly disgusted with the turnout from fans. I get it ticket prices adds up for whole families. And it’s just as easy to watch it on your tv now when it gets a little chilly outside. But that is home field advantage that was wasted. Those seniors that deserve to have the fans filled for there last game at The Rock and you all let them down. It sounded like a funeral service. And more empty bleachers than full. 10 years ago you couldn’t find a seat and the fence line would have been full. We will never become an elite program until you get support in every facet of the program.

And after all the negativity in this post I want to say thank you to the seniors. You have won a lot of ball games over the years with some very memorable moments. Have thoroughly enjoyed watching you all grow up.

Nice post, I figured given what I knew from St. Bernard from the past at least you guys had a shot and sounds like it was a game given way. Ticket prices are outrageous, and I don't know why they don't make more of an effort to sell like a family deal or at least wait until regional semis or regional finals to jack up the price. In terms of the motivation and lack of fans at the game I think the 2 go hand in hand. Players feed off that stadium vibe and once things get rolling the players kind of take over from there and the 2 simply go hand in hand the rest of the way.

You may agree or you may disagree but I’ve watched all season lil motivation and have also felt I was at a funeral. I’m very passionate about the sport and hate to see no energy. Now is that a player thing or a coach thing? I believe it falls on coaches problem. Certain players who was leading positions in tackles early on was told they was getting pulled to keep fresh for offense. My opinion, when u have dogs u have to feed the dogs. You’re not a d-1 school and have the players that only need to play 1 side of the ball. Yeah that’s a dream that one day there will be that many players. But your players have to play. It’s been a frustrating year to watch a lot go down when this team was way better than the record. To be a team like Burg and Ironton u can’t be satisfied with 3 days a week in off season workouts. The list keeps going.

Also I’ve heard it for years, DB’s aren’t covering like they should. They are doing there best, because they have never been taught any different. Get a coach in there that will teach them to do better. It starts at the top and goes down hill. Let’s do better as a system

it is true the db play has been bad for years and also true it starts at the top and goes down hill. you really have to wonder do they care enough or is what results they get is good enough for them? a excellent off season program should start no later than February and exhibit a strong conditioning and weight program followed with individual no less than 4 days a week.

I think you have something with what is wrong with west. I think number one thing wrong is that the coaches that actually run things lost this group of players last season and it continued into this season. the coaches do not respect the players and the players lost respect for the coaches. not alot good will ever come out of that. second thing is you had seniors from last season not wanting to win because eventually playing ironton, i think the same thought carried into this postseason same as they would eventually play coldwater in which they know probably would not end well. majority of the players don’t respect and do not want to play for certain coaches iykyk. I think not wanting to play because you may play a certain team is cowardly imo, but the confidence these players have in most of the coaches is at an all time low from what i have heard. third you mentioned off season workouts, which in the past have been a joke to say the least and is not getting your players where they need to be by the start of the season. players need much more than just a few “abc” weight sessions. from what I understand there are coaches there only to feed their own egos and when things do not go their way the players get blamed. we have lost a few good players, but have many returning. if things do not change, the lack of respect and production may be worse.

I agree, and I have believed this for years. If your team doesn’t have the fit for your defense or offense then you have to set a side your ego throw it out the door. Find something that fits your team. That’s just my opinion. I think teams licked there chops looking at our defense. Occasionally we would send a blitz and it helped. I don’t know, I hope things turn around I really do. We have a great group next year and years to come.

most good teams don’t need coaching in all honesty. in some cases a good coach will make a difference in a game, but most of the time they and their inflated ego’s cost teams games. another thing good coaches win in practices not in games imo. I have a feeling with this who we have nothing will ever change until they are forced out. they were gifted a good group of seniors a couple years ago from johnson and have since thought nobody is above them, even heard to fellow staff members. the last few years have been a let down to say the least.

Literally the greatest post ever. Just wanted to share this absurdity so if it gets edited, that the original is still there in all of its glory.

Could you imagine….?? No Coach would be a disaster lol The majority of HS athletes aren’t close to being mature enough lol.
Now, I do agree that some coaches are just as immature as HS players, But you have to have a Coach man, Some are just better than others. I played 2 years ago for these Coaches and the negativity was horrible, Even though we were winning. I agree things need to change, But I doubt they ever will.

I absolutely agree. I hate to be the old washed up guy talking about the past but 10-20 years ago people actually cheered. Any 3rd downs, the bleachers were shaking. I heard it probably under 5 times this year and it was all critical moments with the game on the line. Why can’t that happen all game?

My biggest complaint about Coach Johnson with the one way thing. In theory, that would be awesome to be able to have on position, stay focused and fresh and play it to the maximum ability. But we don’t have the luxury of being able to do that with 30 some kids on the roster. You get 11 men on the field at one time. You have to play your best 11 at all times. If breaks are needed you adjust accordingly. But these are 15-18 year old kids that should be capable of doing that.

I have been extremely lax on any criticism of the coaching staff. We have won a lot of games and being a small school now, we work with what we have. I don’t have any complaints about the offense. People will say we need to pass blah blah. Bishop and Parker are studs. We ran the offense that is best suited for the roster at this time.

Now for my complaints. Special teams. I seen several breakdowns on points and kickoffs this year. Bad pursuits, missed tackles , poor position to make plays. Last week was a perfect example of how not to play good special teams.

The secondary man. It’s not a secret this has probably been Wests biggest struggle for YEARS. But this one takes the cake. There was times when I questioned opposing teams play calls. I felt if you ran one single play that wasn’t a streak or post route , you were wasting a scoring oppurtunity. I would hate to see the chunk plays all tallied up over the season.

And this last one is the most concerning. I touched on it on the previous post but something was wrong from the first snap last Friday. I had seen glimpses of it early on and felt like after the wins started to rack up it was taken care of. But the lack of effort , mistakes , and general sense of not giving a darn was evident everywhere. I’m not saying throw the baby out with the water at all. But round two of the playoffs, that should not be the expectation at West. We are better than that. Like I said in order to take it to that next tier, we have to have kids believing in themselves. I had a trusted source that is around the program. He told me the year following the SOC championship that the locker room vibe felt like they had accomplished their goals. Like they weren’t super hungry to go repeat again like one would think. And I can’t lie that’s kind of the vibe I’m getting. All this is fixable, just gonna take some effort. Go West and all criticism is from a love of the game, program , and community.
