Zanesville is in a rough spot in all aspects of the district. And if this is true, a 4th coach in 4 years, I imagine this is going to hit a rock bottom ZVille hasn't seen probably ever.

Carp should have stayed at VC. He did a great job there and was loved by the community as far as I can tell. Maybe he can return there. I’m if there’s someone advising him I would suggest you do your best to keep him away from Logan. Maybe Chilly?

Rough year to say the least. Very few bright spots in an 0-10 year that was filled with excitement in the preseason. Coach Carper built Vinton County to a brand new level of success, really thought he had a chance at Zanesville to do the same… with time. It’s always tough for a program to go through multiple head coaches in 4 years. So many promises and expectations, all to be flipped after a year or two to new ones. It’s hard on kids, speaking personally for my own child that went through this. It’s tough to be all in, when a coach that preaches to be all in, walks away after a year. Granted, everyone always has their reasons. Wife is Head Volleyball Coach at VC, so there’s likely little to no time with family driving back and forth each day - but he knew that going in.
Would assume he’s taking Logan or Chillicothe, both of which are less than an hour away from MacArthur.

Who fills this job? Clearly to an outsider this would seem like a dark spot. 3 HCs in 4 years. Would likely need to be an on staff assistant to keep kids from leaving to TV/WM/MAY. Or possibly a young, up and coming coach looking to take a “step up?” (Not sure it is a step up at this point). Or a seasoned coach with experience that will bring stability.
- Brownrigg could have had it last year, so I can’t imagine he’s even in the conversation this time around. Maybe offer him an assistant principal job and a house?
- Mike Eddy that just lost the Logan job might be a candidate. He’s a long time HC and Zanesville has a significantly smaller hill to climb with their league.
- Chad Grandstaff??? The last coach to have success at Zanesville and he’s not too far down the road. But, he left for a reason and things were in a much better place then than now.
Time will tell.

Are there any young alumni coaches that are hanging around somewhere? That to me seems like the next logical step. I personally don't see an experienced coach wanting to take it on. Unless its an old "culture" guy to bite the bullet and try to right the ship for a short time being and guide them to a point that a younger up an comer can come into a better situation. That's happened at some schools..... Bring someone like Bartholomew, something like that for an example?
Brownrigg is NOT going to entertain this job. The man is smart, West adores him and the Admin will give him whatever he wants! I've said before you're going to look long and far to find a coach that has a better situation than him. The only thing I think for Brownrigg is the central ohio route to climb the ladder, or he's gonna keep building at West (MVL his whole life). But if he did something similar others have taken, Small, Medium, Large OCC, that would be a path he deserves to take.
Board is another young coach who looks destined for greatness. But again he seems like he's locked into NL for the long haul, married a NL legend... not going anywhere anytime soon.... (He'd also be crazy to even entertain ZVille)
Do you offer Chase Bowman an Admin position and what he needs? Local, experienced, clearly successful at constructing a culture at the hardest places. Money can talk to some! Does he have any left in the tank?
But again for Zanesville, a young alum that is in coaching and wanting to develop his chops makes sense here to me. Knows the culture and what it can be if done right, will have time to connect and build, knows the admin and how it operates, etc. I always felt Grandstaff was the man for ZVille because he's one of them, a natural fit! That ship has sailed IMO, so find another similar!!! Just don't know if they're out there!

What’s the common link between WCH, Chillicothe, and Zanesville being open in the same cycle?

They’re all small exurbs bordered by at least one district with generally better footing for success to happen.

Zanesville is without question the roughest of the three to make something happen. Agreed that the LCL isn’t that big of a hill to climb, although none of Zanesville’s league compatriots have anywhere near the challenges the Blue Devils do. This is a job where the real opportunity to climb back may come with the successor to the next coach.

Next hire inherits a locker room that will be hard to win right off the rip given the turbulence of leadership changes. Have to find a way to keep next year’s upperclassmen incorporated and bought-in, in order to avoid a repeat of this year. At the same time, can’t put all of the eggs in that basket.

Mix that in with the community dynamic, a tough one too, and it’s a balancing act harder to tackle outside of Friday nights.

Tough to hit lower than 2 points per game in a season, but I understand what you mean

Carper is a good coach, but this job is going to take more than a good coach. It’s going to take a good coach who has a massive plan for a turnaround and patience from all involved, because I doubt they will be any better in the near future due to all of the changes. So, it’s going to take some time.
