i have no idea. at the time this series ended ashland had bested the fighting tigers a couple of times. so they shoulda been slap happy to sign. but they musta blinked 1st. that is a game that must be played. one of the longest rivalries ever. it's like portsmouth and burg not playing anymore. yagotta play a game like that, when you have neighboring bullies.

Too bad they don't have the stones to schedule Ironton anymore..
Has nothing to do with stones :D ashland made it pretty clear why they quit playing them
What was the reason they quit playing?
According to Ashland and the rest of the tri state. Ironton recruits. Blazer is soft

FYI, don't have to recruit when the product markets itself.

if you build it, they will come. every high school has open enrollment. it's like a high school transfer portal. if ironton were doing things that the ohsaa would not allow. then they'd get in terrible trouble. and have games and titles stripped. and that's obviously not the case. any high school could do the same. it's just that ironton is mad about football. where they buy season tickets to tiger games for christmas presents. they've always played anybody, anywhere. not affraid of a loss to ruin a perfect season. but to play anybody that wants to play, that will improve ironton's experience enough to make deep playoff runs. if you don't you get gobsmacked by other playoff teams. and it's not good for anybody. let's face it. ironton is likely to stay out of a league from now on. unless something good is created. there will always be scheduling issues. but trevon pendleton is doing an amazing job as a.d. and coach in finding these marqee matchups from everywhere. it's not a phase , it's completely needed. ytb.

Tomkittens got their panties in a wad when one of theirs opted to play for the orange and black back in 2020. The contract sat on their desk for weeks and didn't return it, this was for the 2021 season. Ironton needed a game and Moeller agreed to step in and vill the void..
Ashland won't play Ironton for the same reason Russell cancelled Raceland.. Not a good look to get embarressed in your own back yard, by a smaller school..
Basically afraid more tomkittens will defect..

Not every high school has open borders, and some of the best small schools have few to no transfers or players outside the school district.

Who is the week one opponent?

Who all has been picked up for their schedule?
IRONTON
1 @ Shelby Valley (KY)
2
3 (H) Akron Manchester
4
5 (H) Jackson
6 @ Wheelersburg
7 @ Cabell Midland (WV)
8 (H) Fairland
9 @ Gallia Academy
10 (H) Portsmouth
It is hard to believe that Ironton picks up a small Kentucky school who was 5-7 last year. I was told that this school is similar to the student number at Symmes Valley for comparison. I guess when you almost get beat by Pikeville then you schedule their little brother to play instead.

There are trade offs in scheduling. A game to develop experience. A game that is a trade off of playing little brother to keep foot in the door to play big brother down the road. Plus there is exposure to possible transfers. There is usually a method to the madness.

With a new coach coming in at Logan maybe he’ll have the nads to play Ironton? Same for Warren. Give them a call. I also remember recently a guy from Fort Frye complaining that no one would schedule them because they were all scared so they might be a possibility too. Athens has gotten that big feeling back too so check with them. Those could pretty much fill up your schedule if they have the nads. Just tell them to put on their jock straps, if they need one, and play.

Yup had to dodge Pikeville this year. They were just too much for us. Wish we could find a quality opponent in Week 1. One team we played just couldn’t hang. Beat them 55-0 in a playoff game.

Call Fort Frye. Supposedly they’re having the same problem.

Scheduling Coldwater will make a believer out of a lot of people if it truly happens. I am sure they will look to schedule sub-.500 larger schools to get the points and can say we beat a D3 or D4 school. OHSAA offered this year that any school can move up and play in D1. If you are so good with talent, go ahead and let OHSAA know anywhere/anytime. Just think of the “bat light” you could get with a D1 state title. 😂

Yes. Ironton isn’t man enough to play big schools. Keep going.

Interesting that both Ironton and Indian Valley both have week 2 openings. DIV vs. DV state champ would be a great game.

Does Indian Valley have a little brother who was sub-.500 last year?? They need wins to make the playoffs.
