A co-worker and friend of mine was on AA flight 5342. He was asked to go out to Kansas at the last second to help with the orientation of a new plant manager. Was flying home to DC when the collision occurred.
Young man was 33 and had just gotten a nice promotion. Despite his youth, he was highly respected and well liked. Had a bright future ahead of him. Instead, he leaves behind a young wife.
Anyway, I’m sure I’ll be back to form come football season but during my travels right now, high school football hasn’t been on my mind. And arguing football even less so.
What is it going to take for Wheelersburg to be competitive with Ironton again?

Burg fans keep yappin about their "superior academics" so since they cant hang on the filed i assume they can EASILY match Canisius 22 milly in academic scholarships correct?
Re: What is it going to take for Wheelersburg to be competitive with Ironton again?
Isn’t academics the #1 priority at your school?? Surely, you won’t say a sport that last 10 weeks is far more important. Isn’t your goal for your child is to get an athletic scholarship to help pay for their college degree??798924 wrote: Sun Feb 23, 2025 10:08 am Burg fans keep yappin about their "superior academics" so since they cant hang on the filed i assume they can EASILY match Canisius 22 milly in academic scholarships correct?
To answer your question, we were a little less than at close to $11 million in college scholarships if I remember correctly. They also have a student population of around 600 in the HS where we only have close to 300 so we are close. How much scholarships did your school give out??

That's what I'm saying in every sport that they can't win at or be the top team these dudes get on here and say out academics are superior to everyone else and all that crap. No one cares about your academics.BurgFan43 wrote: Sun Feb 23, 2025 10:36 amIsn’t academics the #1 priority at your school?? Surely, you won’t say a sport that last 10 weeks is far more important. The “despite his youth…” was suppose to be part of the first sentence. He had just been promoted to executive band with a base + bonus pay of over $300k. Not bad for a 33 year old.
Re: What is it going to take for Wheelersburg to be competitive with Ironton again?
Academics should be your #1 and everything else is just an extra feather in the cap of kids. Sports, will it pay the bills once the 40 weeks of a sports concludes on their senior night. Nope! The ability to secure an education and then a career. It is great that it teaches kids dedication and maybe they might get a college scholarship or financial aid in a D3 school to help offset the cost of that college degree.Eugene 2011 wrote: Sun Feb 23, 2025 11:03 amThat's what I'm saying in every sport that they can't win at or be the top team these dudes get on here and say out academics are superior to everyone else and all that crap. It always comes down to the cutoff for the division by OHSAA. We are always close to the top of the division numbers wise. I assure you we will be ready for battle and more than compete with the team down the river. The Terry kid hurt a lot of teams last year but he is gone.
Week 6 will be a battle at the ED!! See you there
More balanced with the run and pass game.
Yes Terry was great
But with Edwards Williams and Carmen along with a few other underclassmen getting a great deal of playing time Ironton won’t miss a beat.
And the score against Burg will be devastating once again.
Might be good you picked up Pikeville’s little brother on week 1
Ironton will go 8-2 at worse.

Academics should be the number 1 priority because not one kid around here is gonna pay the bills by playing sports. But it shouldn't be the reason why you complain about Burg not winning in sports or losing to Ironton.BurgFan43 wrote: Sun Feb 23, 2025 11:26 amAcademics should be your #1 and everything else is just an extra feather in the cap of kids. I disagree, but we all have our opinions. I assure you have a an extensive educational background so I am far from ignorant. Your cupcake in week 1 will allow you to beat your chest and talk of a running clock at least. You do have hope there playing the little brother of Pikeville who was 4-6.fielddaddy wrote: Sun Feb 23, 2025 12:04 pmNo you are ignorant and a instigator periodBurgFan43 wrote: Sun Feb 23, 2025 11:58 amI’ll take the under please! Let’s make a commitment here… if Ironton goes 8-2 or better, I will wear an Ironton shirt for a whole day. If they go 7-3 or worse, you will wear a Burg shirt for one day.fielddaddy wrote: Sun Feb 23, 2025 11:55 amYou are truly ignorant of Ironton’s football team.BurgFan43 wrote: Sat Feb 22, 2025 6:50 pmYou can never replace Terry no matter how much you want to tell yourself otherwise. You'll have your opinion and you'll argue with everyone who has a different one and your one of those people who even after you are proven wrong you keep arguing just to argue.BurgFan43 wrote: Sun Feb 23, 2025 12:10 pmI disagree, but we all have our opinions. Thank you! On the money. That's my point to the poster who can't see past the irony of their own posts criticizing others for having differing opinions. Of course academics are #1, but does that even need to be said? We are on a sports chat forum, you talk sports on sports forums. Continually telling everyone to stop focusing on athletics on a sports forum seems a bit like trolling, well, not a bit, it's trolling.Eugene 2011 wrote: Sun Feb 23, 2025 1:18 pmYou'll have your opinion and you'll argue with everyone who has a different one and your one of those people who even after you are proven wrong you keep arguing just to argue.BurgFan43 wrote: Sun Feb 23, 2025 12:10 pmI disagree, but we all have our opinions. Telling other programs how to compensate their coaches, administrators, etc seems futile and silly. If Ironton intends to invest in athletic facilities, coaches salaries, AD salaries, whatever, is their business, why someone from Wheelersburg feels the need to constantly tell Ironton or anyone for that matter how they should invest in their people is really immature.
Re: What is it going to take for Wheelersburg to be competitive with Ironton again?
I am so glad we agree about something at least in terms of academics being the most important. I also agree that people are going to have different opinions on topics. I have never said I hated any one school or program. We are just discussing hot topics and educating the silent majority. With this forum, we have had over 2,500 views. I have never said anything about what any one school should do because the board decides that who are elected officials in one district. It is also up to the taxpayers of that district since it is their money who is funding the school. It would be up to the citizens to decide if a new facility needs to be built or a district needs additional funding for improvement. The silent majority also has the ultimate say if the district is spending the money wisely. It doesn’t matter what you (being in Cincinnati) or me if we don’t live in the district to vote and pay taxes for any particular district.avalanche wrote: Sun Feb 23, 2025 3:22 pmThank you! It is importantly that everyone educates themselves about their own district. Ask questions and ensure your school is providing the best opportunities whether it is sports or academics for your children. Check out the school report card if you would like to learn more about your school or any school in Ohio by district or by individual school:

Why would a wheelersburg fan worry themselves about who Ironton plays their first game when they got pimp slapped last year in both games?BurgFan43 wrote: Sun Feb 23, 2025 12:10 pmI disagree, but we all have our opinions. The only reason wheelersburg had a winning record last year was they played in a very weak SOC.
They moved from game 1 to game 6 this upcoming year.
The results will be the same.
Running clock again.
Re: What is it going to take for Wheelersburg to be competitive with Ironton again?
You have enough confidence to say you will sport a Burg shirt on the Monday of week 7 if there is no running clock. Ironton will like to have us week 1 before we get all the pieces up and running and that is why it is week 6. Different time of the season with different results.Schoolboy wrote: Sun Feb 23, 2025 5:59 pmWhy would a wheelersburg fan worry themselves about who Ironton plays their first game when they got pimp slapped last year in both games?BurgFan43 wrote: Sun Feb 23, 2025 12:10 pmI disagree, but we all have our opinions.
