Didn't they just hire this coach???
From what I have heard, change may be coming again in the French City.
No decent coach will want to go their if they keep firing coaches so quickly.

They didn't fire the last two. They both left for jobs closer to home.

The one before that resigned over an off the field incident.

They hired the wrong coach after Bartholomew left, but their problems go a lot deeper than their head football coach.

Thanks for the info Locos.

It is sad when a good program goes bad.
I sure hope they can get it back on track soon.

My question is, who would want to coach nowadays? They don't last very long.

I don't know when was the last coach Gallia Academy fired. Coach Eddy left for his reasons. And then they did a very good coaching searched and got sucked in to the wrong guy when they hired Coach Bart. And then when coach bart cut ties and ran when it was really to late to find a replacement they hired someone who was a finalist the year before instead of doing there do diligence. Talent comes and goes and right now blue devils down on talent but they need to find the right coach who wants to call gallia academy home. And be here and put a system in place. then they will go back to being good most years. next years team will probably win 3 to 5 games no matter who the coach is.

Its possible that you may not get very many people from "out of the area" (subjective, I suppose) unless there are opportunities for them to settle in/near Nelsonville and make a career out of it. I think that's becoming a prevailing issue with SEO when it comes to finding varsity coaches in major sports. Unless there is some sort of existing connection (alumni, kids currently attend the school system) or an opportunity for advancement then you're going to have a slim pool of candidates to choose from and an even smaller is the number of coaches that can viably see themselves coaching there for 4+ years. Perhaps you guys could look to the east (West Virginia) or to the southwest (down near Ironton, Portsmouth, or Kentucky).

Nelsonville needs to find someone in the immediate area, a young coach with time to give to the program, and a coach with fresh ideas on both sides of the ball. Let that coach build their own staff and make the changes they feel necessary and get some support from the boosters and parents for new equipment/uniforms/etc. Next years Nelsonville squad is going to be senior laden and we have seen a plethora of area teams this season led by seniors make huge strides for programs and become the building blocks for success.

Please elaborate on what the problems are that are so much deeper than the coach.

Talent and numbers are way down at GAHS since their heydays of Saunders/Bokovitz.

The team lost some talented players over the coaching changes - whether they transferred, stopped playing, etc. They played a TON of seniors this year and only won one game. That would have been unthinkable ten years ago.

Just saying a new head coach isn't going to magically fix the on field results in Gallipolis. It's a rebuilding job. Whether its Riffe or the next guy, they need to be given time to turn things around. A quick trigger finger is only going to worsen the problem IMO.

Wonder where the program would be if they had kept Penrod for the head coach.

The best part of the off-season on SEOPreps is when all the experts get on here and tell us how schools need new ideas "on both sides of the ball" to fix a losing season or two by a program...

... because the talent you have to work with doesn't matter...
... because the teams you face don't matter...
... because the way you teach that talent doesn't matter...

I read a book on Amazon called GAME PLAN that argued that the NFL would be better if it recruited its coaches from people who had called thousands of plays in simulation games. Same exact logic as above.

I think you will have some of the SVC head coaches apply.

EARLY SPECULATIONS ON CHANGES:

1. People will start calling for change (again) at Fairland.
2. The carousel will continue to roll at Federal Hocking and Franklin Furnace.
3. Warren Local... sigh
4. At least four SVC teams will change coaches.
