Please don't believe everything you read on this site or any other. Just because it was posted by a fan doesn't mean there's any truth to it.
Coach Rockwell knows there were people upset by the overall play of the defense last year, and there have been fans wondering why player A wasn't playing here, or player B not playing here, or player C not going both ways. Did he want the defense to be better overall last year? Of course. Did the defense consist mainly of underclassmen? Yes. Did the coaches play who they felt gave them the best chance to be successful each and every play? I believe so, or they shouldn't be coaching. Be assured that Coach Gullion and his staff do everything each week to prepare the Streaks to win. They are not interested in winning popularity contests.

The defense played several young kids last year. How many first year starters were there, 6 or 7 or so? How many of those were underclassmen?
I'm sure the coaches have evaluated what went right and what went wrong last season, and are exploring what changes to make. While I don't know Coach Rockwell or Gullion as well as some others, I believe that, based on what I do know and have seen, that they will do their best to upgrade the defense this year. As I said in a previous post, don't believe everything you read.

Hes back for next year as well. I know that Piketon plays its first three opponents and all run some form of the spread. NY is known to spread it out and then go double tights and the option game. IMO, Adena is the only team Piketon will face that still runs the power I game, besides ourselves of course.
Any scheme can be effective if the personnel believe in it. Let me run it down for you, last years defense had a Sr DT that was 6 foot 220 lbs. The other DT was 5'11" and 200. Neither were a dominating force in the middle of that 4-4 defense. You better either have two big strong boys that can destroy the oline between the tackles along with a stud MB, or you better have two very quick aggressive boys in the middle that can penetrate and create problems behind the line. No knock on either of these two players, but they were neither last year. Put that with a Sr MB, a undersized Soph MB and a smaller JR OLB and another average sized Soph OLB and you dont have the strength to stop the run.
Now this year, those undersized LB's are a year stronger and older so that should solidify somewhat. I guess being an ex Dlineman, I believe that the battle has to be won up front to win the war. So Piketon needs to shore up that middle to be successful against power run teams.
