Josh Brown seemed to be the #1 guy at the first passing scrimmage, but I don't know if he has actually been named the starter. Boggs and Landrum are both very capable in my opinion. I would think that they will be given every opportunity to win the starting job over the next couple months, but I can't say for sure.

I'm sticking to what I said on the passing scrimmage topic a while back. I think Landrum should be the starting QB. I think he would be the best QB overall when taking into consideration that Jackson is a run-oriented football team. Landrum seems to be much more physical than Brown and Boggs and I think he would definitely be a valuable asset to the Jackson option attack. Also, Landrum seems to have the strongest arm of the three QB's and I'm pretty sure that he's just as accurate, if not more accurate, than Brown.

OSU Buckeyes 5,

I won't disagree with you about Landrum...I like him a lot too. I'm very interested to see how he does in the upcoming passing scrimmage, as well as the real scrimmages in August. There's still a lot of time until the opener against Wellston.

Here's a link to LoganLocos' pre-season profile of the Ironmen. That lineup is pretty accurate, but I'm sure we will see some subtle changes as the season approaches. Jackson is returning most of their starters from a year ago and many other contributors. There are some key losses from last year's team, but Jackson should be very talented across the board. The 2008 schedule toughens up with the addition of Logan and Zanesville, who will replace Athens and Warren, but I expect Jackson to have a solid football team overall this season.

Landrum should be the starter. I like both Brown and Boggs. They are both good athletes and could help the Ironmen in other areas. Unfortunately, Eric has the wrong last name it seems. Good Luck to the Ironmen! 8)

Boilermaker, I am pretty good friends with a member of the Oak Hill coaching staff. I asked him Monday about a transfer from Wellston. He told me the young man's name, said he and his sister are both enrolled in the Oak Hill district, and he is in the weight room and doing a great job. Told me he is very strong and works very hard. That is what he told me Monday night in Jackson.

I just hope the coaches in football and basketball can shake hands after the game without confrontation. Jackson's coaches seem to carry the ceremonial hand shake to a whole new level. They called Wellston's coaches names and cursed at them both games. Coach Mantel and Coach Derrow may need security guards with them during the post game shake, or shake down as it turned out last year.

Maybe Jackson should only throw the ball 2 times this year instead of 3 while they're "running up the score". Get over it.

A little off topic but I wanted to start an All-Sports race between the two schools only using the major sports. Surprisingly to most people, Wellston held the edge last year with a 3-2 advantage with 1 tie.

Football- Jackson, 56-6
Basketball- Wellston, 70-66
Girls Basketball- Jackson, Score N/A
Wrestling- Pretty sure Wellston won every time they met.
Baseball- Tie, 9-9
Softball- Wellston, 14-6.

Latest O.G.T. results- Wellston (True) :-D

Is this game on a Saturday?

Maybe Coach Derrow shouldn't hire Tommy Waldron and the Jackson faithful wouldn't have a reason to be outraged.

Does anyone know what type of offensive scheme Wellston will run this year? Will they be a passing team again? Or might they run a little more? What type of defensive scheme will they operate out of this season? I hope they do better this season. I hope the game is an injury free one and is a close one this year. Would be nice to see the Golden Rockets keep it close and pull off a win on the old C.H. Jones Field.

Good Luck to both teams :!:

And to my alma mater....

Go Golden Rockets :!: :-D

You know HP - the official you are refeering to never made one basket or had one assist or even one steal during that game. You should be ashamed to tarnish that victory over Jackson. Wellston made all the plays to get that game in overtime and win during OT. You are insulting the players, including AJ.who gave a great effort to pull that game off. Why, because of your blinded hatred of Wellston. It would not matter who was officiating. The kids made the plays. It was your coach that showed himself after the game. Now, you get over it Ironman02-Paybacks are ****.Don't think for one second that the basketball win wasn't sweeter than normal because of your football coaches and basketball coaches actions after the game. The AD wanted to cancel the games with Wellston because your coaches can't control their emotion. It was like Wellston wasn't supposed to have the same opportunity to win. The game is 32 minutes long. Jackson played 28 minutes. What is unbelievalble in this whole situation is that the same official mentioned actually officiated the Wellston-Jackson game at Jackson a few seasons back. I have personally seen him officiate at Jackson during other games when Wellston was not playing. Give credit where it is due. Wellston's players won the game. Did they use him in Baseball, Test Scores, Wrestling? This is very wrong to even bring his name in to this conversation. Wellston did not complain of officiating during one single loss last season. They do not look for excuses. Its starts at the top and works its way to the players. Jackson looks down on Wellston and Vinton Co is starting to develop that same arrogance. I hope that Wellston stays humble, continues to show class because good things are ready to happen for our football and basketball teams. GO ROCKETS

First of all, this is the football forum. If we all want to discuss last year's basketball game between Jackson and Wellston, then the basketball forum would be the place to do it.

Now for football. I like how the blame for last year's confrontation after the football game always gets put fully on Coach Wolford. I guess the Wellston fans forget that Mantell was screaming across the field in the FIRST HALF about Jackson running up the score. Jackson's starters played the entire first half and one series of the 3rd quarter. Jackson threw only 3 passes the entire game and ran straight at Wellston all night. What were they supposed to do...take a knee the entire second half? Wolford was not running up the score at all. Before Mantell started accusing him of running up the score, maybe he should have taken a look at his own team. You know, the team that gave up 40+ points in 8 of its 10 games last season. The hand shake and the war of words that ensued were the result of both coaches losing their tempers...not just one.

It's absolutely hilarious to me that a Wellston fan would get on here and talk about how they have so much class and Jackson doesn't. A perfect example of Wellston's class would be when their entire stadium erupted in applause after Zane Holzapfel went down with a leg cramp in 2006. Now that's classy.

I really wish that the Jackson-Wellston series would end because I'm tired of hearing this type of stuff every year. This game does not benefit Jackson anymore in my opinion. Who knows. Maybe Jackson will ride up to Wellston and put the hammer down one more time on C.H. Jones Field and then end the series. I can only hope.
