Best Back at Nelsonville-YORK EVER!

Post by OneHitWonder »

Saw this topic about Gallia and it got me thinking about all the great backs that have come through Nelsonville-York throughout the years. We could even include quarterbacks in the mix if you like. So what do you think? Who was the best back the buckeyes have had?

I would have to say Jay Edwards since you are including QB's.

Dave Boston, Jr., Brad Woodson, Mike Bishop and Justin Gail are on that list.

There have been a lot of good backs play for the Buckeyes.
Justin Gail would have to be at the top of my list.
Brad Woodson
Dave Boston Jr.

Who was the kid that was on the 1981 or 1982 state championship team? I remember he was a tough little SOB to bring down and had huge legs that just kept churing after you hit him.

I'm not sure about this, but if I'm not mistaken Dave Boston Jr. was an all-American. I was coaching at Meigs when the Gail brothers were playing and Justin did rush for something over 220 yards IN THE FIRST HALF against us, but how many all-Americans has Nelsonville had?

I remember when Justin Gail played for NY. After the Burg lost to NY 41-14, in the playoffs, in Gail's Junior year, the Burg came back to beat NY in his Senior year, 61-19, once again in the playoffs.

Dave Boston was the runner from the 81 team that beat the Burg 14-0 at the Tank, in the state semi-finals. I remember the wind chill being about 15 below for that game. Coldest game that I have ever witnessed. NY went on to beat Otsego the next week to capture the crown.

I still have a dent in my jaw from tackling him that game in 81. Wheelersburg scored 3 td that were called back.

Actually, Dave Boston, Jr. graduated in 81, the team that played the Burg was The Class of 82. Brad Woodson and Mike Bishop were on that team so my guess is that it was one of them. Dave was Mr. Ohio football for the NY team of 80 (Class of 81) and might have been All-American. I know he had a full ride at OU and played quite a bit until sidelined by an injury.

I was at both of those games. In the first game I got the impression that Wheelersburg thought Meade ran up the score in that game, still spreading it out and throwing well into the fourth quarter. And if I remember correctly NY last two touchdowns were on long pass plays. I believe that is why you saw a 61 point total for the Burg that next year. Pay backs are a ______________.

The best back ever at NY? Hmmm?

Davey Boston Jr.
Mike Bishop
Justin Gail
Brad Woodson
Jay Edwards
Casey Nungester

Just my opinion.

Gail never played in those games he had already graduated in 95. Those games were in 97 and 98. The running back then was Eric Glass. Gails senior year he played against the burg at portsmouth in the playoffs and lost 28-7.
