Go Tigers,

Let me help you. First I rarely if ever say the last two years. I have historically said the last 22 games. Sadly I now have to say the last 21 games. And yes sadly Ironton is 10-11 in the last 21 REAL games they have played. Yes that streak includes parts or all of three seasons.

As I have long said it is sad to realize the once proud Tigers are below .500. Maybe this year will be better.

Logan's last regional final game was a loss to UA. It was a D-1 regional final. Something you can only read about. UA went on to be THE football CHAMPION of Ohio High School Football.

Ironton has been THE football CHAMPION of Ohio High School Football 2 times and Wheelersburg has been once, which is something that you can only read about!!! This is a thread on Ironton and Wheelersburg, so go back to talking about losing to Lancaster on your own thread.

GO TIGERS!!!

Go,

Sorry D-1 is the true champion. Everything else is nice, but the D-1 Champ reigns supreme. I know the history. The point is I-town has never ever played an opponent like Logan played in that regional final. You guys have a proud history but not that proud.

That is true we have never played teams like Logan in the regional finals because teams like Logan dont make the playoffs just like Logan or if its a blue moon and they do make it they get beat in the first round.

As for the Burg Im disapointed this hast reached double digits pages yet. I think this will be a typical Ironton-Burg game. Close in the 1st half and Ironton rolling to a win in the second half.

actually Ironton played the team that Logan is going to lose to on friday night, in 1985 or 1986. Ironton traveled to Lancaster and beat the "big boys" by about 5 TD's. No return game at Ironton. i think they dropped Ironton that year and picked up the perenial cupcake, Logan.

I like both of these teams and I wished they did not start the season out against each other. Good luck to both teams, both have great fans and coaches, these are two class acts. IHS 35- WHS 27.

If you knew history you'd know that Ohio doesn't have a champ that reigns supreme. They have 6 champs. I guess you chose to say the team Logan lost to would be the champ supreme. Sorry, it was just one of a few playoff teams to eliminate Logan. You guys are still working on your history, sorry it's not that proud just yet.

Wheelersburg's new coach is top-drawer. He knows his football, especially his defense. Like Lewis, his mentor, he will learn to create a team offense around the talent he has.
Wheelersburg still has the ATHLETES, fit, fast, smart and aggressive. All of that added up to disaster for Ironton last year and will do so again.
Here's to Coach Woodward making his debut with a great big "W" for Wheelersburg. Go Pirates! The Pirate Nation will be there yelling, "Go, Burg, Go!" We want to see Ironton fans with their jaws dropped again, and again, and again. Go for it, Pirates. This is it.... Remember how much fun it was to roll over the Tigers last year? (both of em? :122245 )
Get focused.
Pirates by a TD or two.

Keys to the game:
Turnovers, turnovers, turnovers. Probably the most important item in this game. As in most cases the team with the most loses this one.

Burg's defensive front: Gave Ironton fits last year and these guys are back. A quick and scrappy bunch means Ironton must do a much better job blocking up front for them to be successful running the football. For Burg to win Burgs D must have a huge impact on this game. A huge defensive play or two could turn this game around.

Offensively: Burg's ability to move the football against the Ironton D. Burg must establish a consistent rushing attack to open up the ability to pass the football enough to keep the Tigers D in check. Burgs tall receivers provide an added bonus at the corners.

Special Teams: Field position is huge in this one. So special team play will be another key. Burg has the ability for the first time in a long time to kick a long FG. 40 yards is not out of the question. May be a difference maker. Kicker can put the ball at the goal line on kickoff. Punter is solid as well.

Tale of the tape
2 Burg - Ironton 1
-----------------------
0 offense 1
1 defense 0
1 special teams 0

My prediction: 0-0 at the end of the first. 7-0 Burg at the half. 13-7 Ironton end of the 3rd and 14-13 Burg final.

Everything goes out the window when these two teams play. Safe travel for the Tigers and their entourage and an injury free game to both.

GOOOO FIGHTING TIGERS!!! BEAT THE BURG!!!

Ironton has had a year to digest last years game w/ the Burg. Our team has matured since then and will be ready come game time. I see the Tigers getting some revenge and Murphy knocking the crap out of some folks. I remember the last time we played here when Tony went into the endzone and steamrolled some poor fella. Ouch! May the best team win and everyone come out injury free.

Ouch is right. That "poor fella" was 5"8', 145 pound, junior Matt Jenkins. Quite a mismatch but Matt never backed down from the challenge. He hit the big guy head on and yes, he got steamrolled.

Can't wait to see this man-child. He is going to block all of them at once., by himself.
