Re: PDT Coverage
actualy, I thought the headline read...
Local school report cards revealed
it was the Dailey times Story.
Congrats on the Burg students, they are always on the top of the list, and desrve to be noticed for it.

RogueWarrior1965, there was no insult meant. Sorry. Sometimes the press releases do not fax over or come through the email. And, since it was May and fell in my time, I take responsibility if it was there and did not get it in. However, these are not lame excuses meant to insult anyone's intelligence.
On a lighter note, John, thanks for the words of encouragement and hope things continue to go well in Cincy. Oh, and hammerdown, just remember he's making a list and checking it twice. (Boo! I know).

Re: PDT Coverage
If you're mad now...just wait...
Once the Ohio State football season starts (this Saturday) the PDT will try to compete with the Columbus Dispatch for the best Buckeye football coverage lol
They will send 1-2 staff members to Columbus....will have 3-4 pictures in the paper....and write 2-3 articles on the game.
Josh, instead of using all of your resources on OSU (the biggest resource being the MONEY spent to travel and report in Columbus)...why not spend all of that money and cover the local football, tennis, golf, and cross country teams?
I'm sure it's fun and exciting for the PDT staff members to travel to Columbus and cover the Buckeyes but they put way too many resources in the Buckeyes and give the local athletes sub-par coverage (and this year horrible coverage)....just wait everyone...mark it down...look in Sunday's paper and look at all of the time, energy, and money they put into the Buckeyes and compare that to the time, energy, and money they put into local sports…

I think on-site coverage in Columbus should be left to, ohh i dont know, the reporters in COLUMBUS!! Is traveling to Columbus gonna make the reporting much more special or are they also attending an entry level english and literature class at OSU?

Re: PDT Coverage
Rememeber when the Times used to do a story on the big games of the week. They would have a feature on the two teams big players and break down the game, interview the players and coaches. Man, those were the days.
Now we have to live with what happened last weekend. I would venture to guess if it doesn't improve this weekend, they will all but lose the people who just go out and buy a copy from a newsstand.

Re: PDT Coverage
The Times sports coverage has progressively went down hill the last three or four years. The last good writer for them was Stephen Ellsesser. Had broad coverage, nice informative stories, and recognized kids for great performances, remember the Great Eight. Should go back into the archives and get some good ideas to turn it around. I only wish I still subscribed to the Times so I could have cancelled it again after this years football preview.

So you will have better HS coverage this week with the extra free time. I am glad you won's have to go to bed too early on Friday to go to Columbus, so you can satisfy all your sports readers with the improved coverage of the Friday night games eith that extra time you have.
Don't count on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Re: PDT Coverage
I think all of us are passionate about our local teams and we all want to see coverage of local high school teams. I have to say that some of the comments have crossed the line to personal attacks against people (PDT writers) and not the problems. The criticism is well earned but it doesnt have to be personal. Listed below are some suggestions for the PDt staff.
1. Cover local HIGH SCHOOLS!!!!! Most of us dont care about SSU athletics, how many times do you have to hear this?
2. Let the 3 employees of the sports department cover the top 3 games each week. Heck you can even decide the top 3 games.
3. Cover local HIGH SCHOOLS!!! Volleyball
4. Get in touch with a school AD, Principal or English teacher and have them write a few paragraphs of their game. The home team would be responsible for the story. This involves a phone call.
5. Cover local HIGH SCHOOLS!!! Golf
6. Allow each schools photographer to send photos of the games to the PDT, limit the photos to 3-5 per game. The PDT could select what photos to run in the SAT. paper. Most people can go right into the school after the game and do this without any problems.
7. Cover local HIGH SCHOOLS!!! Yes, even soccer.
8. Stop pasting so many AP stories in the PDT. I can read the Columbus Dispatch at McDonald's every morning for those articles.
9. Cover local HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS!!! ALL OF THEM
10. Do some feature articles on local kids playing college ball or some of the coaches from the area.
Now, in closing, let me say that this past weekends 'coverage' was as bad as I have ever seen by the PDT. You blew it by not having anything in the paper about most of the local teams plain and simple. If you do not want to see a mass cancellation of the paper, I suggest that you wake up, take some well deserved criticism and do something to correct last weeks disaster.

Very well said neighbor. I think you hit the nail right on the head. Now let's see if the PDT does anything about it.

Re: PDT Coverage
I can confirm that the stats including scoring drives , total yards , team yards and big play recaps were called in to the Daily Times last Friday night for a local football game and the information was not in the paper. I know that info was available for that game , but was not used.
Re: PDT Coverage
GOOD NEWS the Football insert was in there.
But if your from Wheelersburg I wouldnt run out and buy one. Your not in it

Re: PDT Coverage
I wasnt laughing at the burg people. I was laughing because a Burg person complained about not having the insert in there and the guy from the times said it would be in there this week, and Im sure that person went and bought one, and not one thing about there game in there.

Usually, in the past, when a team was playing a team out of the county, not a lot was wrote up about that game and I don't have a problem with that. Just glad that they at least have something in there.
Burg-SP is not the marquee game of the week. I'd have to say that goes to Ptown-West this week.

Re: PDT Coverage
Still not convinced. Will wait 'til tomorrows coverage of locals. It ain't like the preview just dropped in their lap at the last minute, Everyone KNEW it was coming. Unprofessional, lazy attitude is what got this paper in trouble, starting from the top. Just got my first copy of the Scioto Voice in over 30 years and made a subscription commitment for 2 years. Even Green and ND was covered, with pictures, I might add, along with Coal Grove, Rock Hill, Waverly and Piketon. Don't know who does the writing for the Voice, But the folks at the PDT could take some lessons from them. I pay for quality, and PDT falls way short on this as well as integrity.

Re: PDT Coverage
Who got the Scioto Voice this week?
It was a GREAT paper. By far outshines the PDT's. Even though it is coming days after the games are over, they had great coverage and plenty of the game stats.
I just wanted to commend them on a very nice paper.
