WK 2 (1-0) Paint Valley @ (0-1) Coal Grove
Re: WK 2 (1-0) Paint Valley @ (0-1) Coal Grove
Grove4life,
As long as Lucas is the head coach, it aint comin' off. Sounds like it was a good nail biter. Sorry, you guys lost. I was rooting for you.
Converterfan,
I agree. That has to be the weekest line I've ever seen a CG team have.

tigermack...I don't mean the running game. I mean during the times that the ball is suppose to be passed, the quarterback holds on to it
Re: WK 2 (1-0) Paint Valley @ (0-1) Coal Grove
I said on here before the beginning of the season that the line was going to be a weak spot. Then some people almost convinced me otherwise, but it's quite clear now. In the second half especially, the pass blocking was non-existant and the run blocking wasn't much better. A lot of times, the running backs earned every yard they got. Some more questionable play-calling.
Looks like an 0-4 start is very possible after hearing of Valley's demolition of Rock Hill. The OVC looks VERY weak thus far...

Well, I don't know where to start, the blame for this loss goes to everyone all the way down to the coaching staff. If we are going to pass the ball then we need to throw it, don't hold on to it and take the sack. If we are to run the ball then our line needs to open holes for our backs. Our defense needs to quit biting on fakes and follow the ball a little better. Special teams needs to quit running down the field with reckless abandon and watch well the ball is and go to it. All in all this game was a little better than last week but there is still much work that needs to be done to get this team going. The coaching staff needs to get this team better prepared for their games. I can see us going 0-4 as well. Also, in my day we would not have walked off the field and let the other team taunt us on the other side. If they beat you thats fine, if they taunt you thats when you take your frustration out on them.

Easy now 2trap!
I agree about the passing - someone needs to inform the QBs that once you're outside the pocket, you can throw it into the stands.
I knew on the drive before the final one, when they were in the red zone with a first and ten that a poor play-call was very possible. Sure enough, I wasn't disappointed: 2nd-string QB sweep that goes nowhere, setting up a stalled drive. Could have given the ball to Delawder, Haynes, Brammer, etc.... Had time, had momentum.

This goes right back to what we've been saying about Coal Grove being able to beat teams that are as good or maybe a little better or a little worse than they are, especially in non-con games. They seem to choke in these games and last night was no exception.

whats wrong with the freshman starting, it just gives the kids more experience later on. Also, if your best kid for the position happens to be a freshman, i think the kid should play

.
Sorry Fuzzhead, that is not correct. That is an NFL and NCAA rule. In high school, if the QB intentionally throws the ball away (or in the stands as you say) to avoid a loss or conserve time, he is guilty of intentional grounding. A five yard foul from the spot of the foul and loss of down.
This is an NFL rule change that was dreamed up by a league to protect high priced talent, period and has trickled down to the NCAA. All it does is penalize the defense for making a good play by playing good secondary play and/or line play where the qb is trapped and now has an out by allowing him to pretty much chuck it anywhere he pleases.
Re: WK 2 (1-0) Paint Valley @ (0-1) Coal Grove
My bad, but still, there would be nothing wrong with throwing it at the feet of the receiver if it was a well-defended curl route, for example, or if it were a post route, why not throw it into the back of the endzone if you were able, which Coal Grove was at times? There's always a way to get rid of the ball.
