Athens frosh edge Gallipolis 12-6 in OT

Post by jottings »

Visiting Athens edged Gallia Academy’s freshman squad 12-6 in overtime on Memorial Field Thursday evening.

After a scoreless first period, Athens took a 6-0 lead with 23 seconds left in the half on a one-yard run by Russell. AHS missed the point after.

Neither team scored in the third period.

Gallipolis tied the score at 6-6 when Bryan Bokovich returned a pass interception 20 yards with 7:38 left in the game. GAHS missed the point after.

After the game ended 6-6, Russell scored from the one again in overtime to give the Bulldogs a 12-6 lead. Again the Bulldogs missed the extra point attempt.

Athens dug in and held the Gallians on their try, intercepting a pass in the endzone on fourth down.

It was the season opener for both teams.

Gallipolis was stopped in the red zone four times by the visitors.

Next freshman game is at Warren Local on Sept. 4.

blue devil frosh come of age, this is the same team that this group lost to last year,

like 40 to 7 , athens is a very good 9th grade team, and has been one of the best

teams we have played in the last 2 yrs. 2 near fumble returns and the devils go

away a winner. these young men are much improved. Work hard and stay focused.
