Week 5: Franklin Heights @ Waverly

I'm not close to this situation and since coach knight ask nicely i will stop posting those type of posts. I'm still going to give my opinion on the waverly games. Waverly is a good team and they will contend for the soc title. Roback and Malone are probably good friends and dont care as long as they win. Waverly wins Good luck to waverly and the coaches and i apologize to coach knight

Yeah, the first thing that I thought when I read your posts was that you think we do a great job coaching.

We're 3-1 this year, this after graduating 21 seniors last season and playing a BUNCH of guys both ways and on many special teams. Going back to week eight of 2005 we are 27-4 over our last 31 games. We won 21 consecutive regular season games between week eight of 2005 and week nine of 2007. That doesn't include two playoff wins in back to back playoff appearances, the first time that has happened in school history. Our staff has something like 100 years of coaching experience between us. Given all of this I can see why you'd be questioning what we are doing offensively. I mean, we're only averaging 36 points a game so far this season.

The bottom line is that our TEAM has had a lot of success of late and we've emphasized that personal success comes as a by-product of TEAM success in football.

Malone is very good athlete but to say he is the best RB in southern Ohio is a little out of hand. You have to understand there offense before you go off like this. Like Coach Knight says its a RUN/pass offense so don't act like waverly doesnt want to run. Most of Robacks run attempts are becaause he has to scramble out and make something out of nothing, most of his runs are not even run designed plays. And you ask why line him up at reciever, look at his speed and catching ability. He is almost more of a threat there than running back. Just because someone is listed as a certain position doesnt mean they shouldnt play another. Look at Dante Love from Ball State Univ. You put your best athletes where you think they can make and impact and I think Waverly does a good job of that. You can't just run the ball right up the middle or even run options if your oline isnt blocking. Once the line gets better then his running will open up more which will open up the passing game more, which makes Waverly a VERY dangerous team. Thats the key though, the O LINE!

I said he was one of the best running backs in southern Ohio (if not the best). That statement is, in no way, out of hand. When you add his ability to run routs, catch the deep ball along with his blocking ability and the knowledge of defenses, I challenge you to find any better.

I do, however, agree with you on all other points. And as you can see in my earlier post, I do agree that he is being utilized correctly.

Waverly fought as hard as they possibly could but were not able to keep up with the better Falcons from Franklin Heights.

Please pray for Waverly's Kevin Malone. He went down with under 2:00 minutes to play on a kickoff return. He was taken off the field by ambulance. He was moving and talking so we pray it's not serious.

If you ever saw Waverly play you would understand Roback's rushes. In the shotgun Roback rolls out and runs for hls life. The offensive line is maturing and against VC he actually looked like a drop back passer. Malone was not productive against Piketon or Jackson. Give the line time and Malone's yards and carries will come. Sounds like you might have a little jealous bone in your body.

Malone wasn't productive against Piketon because they didn't give him the ball, oh wait, they did, THREE TIMES, and against Jackson, did you see the game? the kid is awsome when he has the ball, can't help it he doesn't get it that often. To me, it sounds like you are defensive of the people trying to shut him down to let certain other people look better.

You should probably know by now that the Waverly coaching staff is very defensive. However, I am certain that to get a balanced attack they use Malone in the best fashion given the design of their offense and their players. It is easy to diagram plays but you have to take into account your own players and what they can or cannot do. Waverly always has a good and sophisticated offense. Why criticize the coaches.

Owens-you are right, I did see the game, however, three times still isn't that much (for a running back). I understand that you need a passing game when you are down, but not ALL passing.

Kevin is fine, the ride was precautionary and necessary. He hit the ground hard. He is going to be sore but should be fine. Kevin is a great kid and hard nosed player. I think we should now turn our focus to beating Minford!

A lot of negative posting on the last couple of waverly threads which is a little dissipointing for a waverly alum but not actually surprised by it if I must say.
mpo on the state of Waverly Football is the guys on the sidelines have done a fantastic job what a good group of young men you have turned out yr after yr and this yr no exception the kids play hard never give up which is a fabulous life lesson these traits you have instilled in these young men will go a long way in their life much farther than football will which is what this is about isnt it? Winning well thats a byproduct of the lessons they learn and I must say that WE definately win alot and I said we because this is a community affair, you look in the stands home and away ( NOBODY TRAVELS BETTER THAN WAVERLY) and you see how much the community supports the program except a few naysayers a couple on here.
myself personally I have no kid on this team (maybe in a couple of yrs) but have watched and understand how hard it is to prepare these young men and I do say young to play at such a high level against very good senior laden teams Jackson, Franklin Heights, Piketon and I say KUDOS keep doing what your doing.
This a little long winded and I apologize for it but this has bothered me as I have read these threads and I don't usually post but I felt that most of the fans that are at these ballgames or listening to Tfred and the boys on the radio feel the same way I do and wanted you and the team to know how WE feel (very proud). On to the SOC2 good luck guys

Good post crazymidget! What a game last night. The tigers fought hard against a much bigger team. There lines was huge! The running back (#25) was the best running back i've seen in awhile. He has great vision downfield and his cutting was supurb. If this kid had the size he would be D1 in my opinion.

Now get ready for Minford!

Wonderful news! I am so glad he is all right. He has been in my prayers and still will be for a speedy recovery! It is exciting to watch him run or catch! He does both very well!
