Locos,

Nice job on the series history and the lineups. Just to add to your projected lineup for Jackson:

Long Snapper - Eric Landrum
Holder - Josh Brown
Other kick returners - Huff, Arthur, and I believe Meredith has also been returning kicks with Huff out of the lineup.

Thanks 02.

I'll include that stuff in my media guide for tomorrow night. Dad and me still plan on getting to Jackson around 6 or so. I'll try and give you a call tonight or tomorrow.

Of the rivals Jackson has, Logan is the most respected in my opinion. Usually always a great game. Doesn't surprise me that everyone is getting along here.

Locos, 02 and 92, what is your favorite Jackson-Logan game? Mine would be 1998. Jackson was coming off a shocking loss at home to Warren. Logan was the new upstart team with the Conrads being sophomores. Jackson was the three-time champs and they had to beat the Chieftains on the Hilltop to have a chance at sharing the title. Ironmen came through and put the Warren loss behind them with the 10-7 win. It wasn't the flashiest game, and the 98 team wasn't as good as the 96 or 97 teams, but they got the job done. I seem to remember Jackson controlling most of the 98 game, with Logan scoring a late TD with the Ironmen up 10-0. But that helped us win a share of the title and showed Logan they hadn't quite passed us yet. Of course, the Conrad's and company got their revenge the next couple years.

What do you guys think?

Well, it definately wasn't the next game at Logan!

1996 and 1998 were great in different ways.

1996 felt like domination and 1998 seemed like just wanting it more and executing better.

2004 was fun as well.

Logan and Jackson respect each other.......it's kind of a common sense thing.

Logan may win by 40 and we'll still get along as we don't type a bunch of senseless crap concerning them and they do the same.

In remembering the 1998 game (sorry 2 old....I'm sure your tired of history) It seems like we completely controlled the game but never got very far ahead.

I'm trying to recall who our kicker was that made a big FG....was it Jared Parker?

1987 cheiftains,

You may be thinking of Grant Gregory. He went to Indiana to play football before transferring to South Florida. Jared Humphreys is playing baseball at Kent State and doing quite well. He will definitely be drafted in my opinion...the question is just how high.

Ironman92,

The kicker in 1998 was Jay Blankenship. Parker came along in 1999.

The 1998 game was definitely a satisfying victory. Jackson had slipped up the previous week, but they played a great game at Logan, especially on defense, and got the win to claim a share of the SEOAL title extending their SEOAL title streak to four at that point.

The 2001 game is one that I will definitely remember. It's funny that it's almost the same situation as this week's game. Logan was 9-0 hoping to finish out their season with a win to clinch a home playoff game and the SEOAL title. Jackson was 6-3 and had struggled throughout the season defensively. On a cold and windy night, the heavy underdog Ironmen gave Logan all they wanted and more, but the Chiefs prevailed 16-13. Watching many of my friends walk of their home field for the last time with tears in their eyes after that all-out battle on senior night is something that will stick with me forever. Those guys played their hearts out that night against a very good Logan team.

2003 and 2004 are some of my favorites as well. The Ironmen dominated a talented Logan team in 2003 after the Chiefs' star RB Austin Rohr left the game early with a concussion. Jackson got the win 27-2. 2004 was Jared Humphreys at his best. With the game tied 7-7 in the 3rd quarter, Jackson ran midline option on 3rd and 14(haha) and Humphreys broke it for about a 65 yard TD. I know LoganLocos loved that one! Later in the game on third and short, Jackson faked a dive play and Humphreys dumped a pass over the middle to Brenton Wayland, who had gotten behind the defense, for a TD and a 21-7 lead that lead to a 21-14 win at the Hilltop.

I could probably go on and on, but I won't. So many classic memories from battles of the past between these two fine football programs.

Good luck to the Ironmen tomorrow night. Can't wait to get home for this game! The Ironmen need to play hard and leave it all on the field. They have a shot at the best team in SE Ohio on their home turf. Make the most of it and make sure that Logan knows they were in an absolute battle when they head back up SR 93!

My favorite Logan/Jackson games?

Ironically I think they were all at Jackson.

2001, 2005, and 1999 in that order would probably be in my top 3, with '98 and '00 right behind.

02 has gone over the 2001 game, clinched Logan's second straight (and surprising) 10-0 season. That was a scrappy group that found a way to win games. Beat Marietta 10-6 on a trick play, Gallia 7-0 on a jump ball, and Jackson 16-13. David Swisher was a monster that night, and I know our kids still say he was one of the hardest guys to bring down they played against (and they had played against some good ones over their careers).

2005 was a GREAT, GREAT win at Alumni Stadium. Similar to the '98 game, but with a better result for the purple team. Just two defenses that could flat out hit and fly to the football team. Both lines were strong, and it was just a heavyweight fight. Somehow Logan was able to use their double tight full house backfield goal line offense in the 2-minute situation and score several times that year, including Justin Coakley's amazing TD catch to end the first half at 7-7. The second half was just two big lines pushing on each other to see who would crack first. Kevin Call had a great night, but was KNOCKED OUT in the fourth quarter and Coakley had the game winning TD in a 14-7 win.

1999 was satisfying as I believe both teams were undefeated in the league and Jackson had won or shared the last 4 titles. LHS was looking for revenge for the '98 game, and playoffs were riding on the match-up for both teams. Logan was pretty dominant with a talented junior class that shut down TJ Mustard. 28-12 and Logan went on to a 9-1 regular season and their first outright title since '94.

The 2000 was obviously a night where everything went right for the Chieftains. Jesse Henestofel had a huge game (2 pick 6s I believe) and the offense was just clicking on all cylinders. It's not very often you get to put up THIRTY on Jackson, let alone sixty. Made for a sweet win going into the playoffs in what was the best season in school history.

And even though Logan was on the wrong side, the '98 game was a classic and a sign of things to come for the Chieftains. The defense was lights out, but the offense was playing without Wayne Bateman for the most part along with Ryan Wykle who had also carried the load some at tailback. It didn't matter, Jackson's defense was absolutely dominating.
