Game of Week #3 West vs. #2 Wheelersburg SOC Championship

I have noticed the exaggerated bragging about the West team. Obviously, they have a good team or they would not be 9-0. I am proud to say the Wheelersburg fans do not feel the need to make ridiculous predictions about this game.

Both teams will play their best game and will leave nothing on the field, as we all know. I really can't see a big blow out by either team, but anything can happen.

Too many people on this site are not giving the Burg players enough credit. They come thru when the chips are down. This game will be no different.

I predict the fans and the West coaches and players will see new plays and strategic moves from the Burg. We will see how well West can respond on the field. This game will come down to the coaching. Both teams are powerful, athletic and smart players. The winning coach will undoubtedly be coach of the year.

No matter what either side is saying, this will be a great game. With either team pulling out a W late. Plus, i think these teams will probably meet in the playoffs down the road.

Its not that people arent giving Burg credit. Burg escaped Minford with a win, so great job Burg. But they are going to be facing a team that will make them stop the run, and Burg had trouble slowing Minford down. The only thing that slowed Minford down was their own turnovers. Minford stopped the West rush for about 1 quarter in the game.

But many people on here have seen both teams play, and I bet if you polled 100 Minford fans every one would pick West by 14 or more.

I certainly didnt believe that West could come into Minford and win, let alone win by 14 or more. Boy was I wrong.

I give Burg credit, but if you have seen West play, give them alot of credit. My opinion is that Burg cannot stop the run the way they need to and their quickness will get beat out of them, if not the first half, it will the second half.

No matter the outcome, if both teams are as good as they are blown up to be on this thread, then they will meet again in the playoffs for another dandy.

My Prediction:
I've ate my fair share of crow and I'll be the first to admit it from the losses of burg and west. However, the only way west can win is if they control the line of scrimmage. Wheelersburg's 3 down d-lineman are the best I've seen all year. I have seen west's d-line also. It's really going to boil down to the "Three-Headed Monster" or "The Triplett Trio" breaking tackles moving the ball down field like they did against Minford. I don't think Burg can physically bring them down. It's like a velociraptor attacking a T-Rex, it's just doesn't seem possible. I'm going to say west wins, but i don't think it will be easy. But it wouldn't surprise me if burg ............Well should be exciting for both teams so good luck in an injury free game

This is going to be one hell of a ball game between 2 very tough teams. It will come down to which team has the most discipline, fewest turnovers and penalties. In my opinion that team is the burg!!

This game has nothing to do with what type of housing or community the fans live in. It has only to do with the players and the coaches and what happens on the field on Friday night. Personal insults have no place on this forum.

Let's give the players and coaches the respect they deserve. Let's us hear the accolades for them. Everyone wants to believe they have the winning team and there is absolutely nothing to be gained by downgrading the other side.

We are all proud of our teams. We won't be any less proud after Friday night - no matter which team wins. All these young guys are playing their hearts out. They need support from their fans, not criticism from their opponents!

I like how people complain about the mud slung back and forth throughout this rivalry yet we all seem to overlook the apparent satanic act of burning effigies of random opposing players.

I still love how people are picking these huge blowouts, with a majority of them coming from the West people.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't the Burg won this contest the last two years by scores of 21-0 and last year, 34-7? Isn't the majority of the players for West back and almost all of the Burg's defensive players are back, so what gives. Granted, I believe that West has vastly improved, but to the tune of 27 points.

I'm not picking a blowout. I would be happy with just a win. I believe it to be a very good game. I believe West will do what they have done all year, get a lead, wear them down, and score a late td while eating the clock in the last quarter. I say 21-7 or so.

As a West fan, I've been reading posts like this since the summer. And I don't blame people for thinking, "How can they be that much better". People said the same thing before Portsmouth, Minford, Waverly, etc; then they see their teams manhandled and understand. The talent has always been there, it was just untapped potential. A much better staff coupled with riggerous offseason conditioning has made the difference. The last couple years, the senior classes have been a bit small also, so talent in all classes is also a factor.

This and the fact that Burg lost so much from last year equals a big turnaround. Burg has a better record now than last year, but they aren't near as talented. The schedule has just been much easier. It's hard to loose a great talent like Lang after graduating playmakers like Cooke, Spradlin, etc the year before. They still have some excellent players like White and Craigmiles, but they have alot more holes and I think West will exploit them.

[EAST 2005-2008]

This is going to be one hell of a ball game between 2 very tough teams. It will come down to which team has the most discipline, fewest turnovers and penalties. In my opinion that team is the burg!!

Discipline will be the deciding factor in this game.The ref's that are doing this game are the ones that officiated between East-Green last week.This crew is fair but do not hesitate one bit to pull out the flags. Expect a longer game because they get it right as a group then make the call.NO NONSENSE CREW.Good luck to both teams,hoping for a BURG win but most of all!!!!! no injuries going into playoffs for either team.

OOOOHHHH I smell a West Sider and before U comment on my posting name and I shouldn't be on this thread,I am 2005-2008 East(temporary tartan)but BURG permenent.With that being said; on another post I made a reference to the ref's; between the lines I was saying West will get frustrated by the laundry and shoot themselves in the foot.Burg has the discipline to maintain themselves. If they are less talented or atheletic ,and never seeing West play,I can't say,discipline by the Burg team will be the equalizer.Want more trash or was this enough?

Riepo, how did you escape the fire last year? Anyway, West only burned one player in 2005, and I heard they are burning several Burg players this time. All in fun, I hope!
