hugh jass,
you are absolutely right. what kind of forum would this be if everyone agreed on everything. this would be a very boring forum. the fact that there are disagreements is what makes it a forum of discussion. And yes when opinions on this particular one, they are shot down with mindless name-calling and useless comments. i don't know how many times i've seen the word "idiot", and seen the phrase "you don't know anything about football" to these words i say, who are you to tell me i'm wrong. ITS A FORUM, I CAN SAY WHAT I WANT.

"If you stand up and be counted, from time to time you may get yourself knocked down. But remember this: A man flattened by an opponent can get up again. A man flattened by conformity stays down for good.''

Thomas J. Watson

I believe that quote applies here. People who agree with what's going on often do not feel the need to express their feelings on a forum. However, people who disagree and feel strongly about their views exercise their rights as citizens and show their disapproval.
Hawkeye, I have seen users on this forum use constructive criticism and still get beat down by you. Not all is green in McArthur.

Boy we asked where the VC fans were and look what we have to read. It would be nice to see just one VC Forum that talked about the game in hand and not the personal bickering that is going on in VC. So you don’t like your Coach then go to the School Board and stand up and say something. Let’s get back to talking FOOTBALL and about the game they are getting ready to play. I have not seen one VC FORUM this year that say anything about the kids or the game of FOOTBALL just I don’t like the coach or he can’t coach.

BACK TO THE GAME

GO BUCKEYE’S

This site is losing more and more credibility everyday. It is one thing to exchange ideals, to debate and "agree to disagree," unfortunately that is not the case anymore; we have been relegated to coach bashing, incoherent libel rhetoric and personal chest thumping. My days on this site have expired.

There's really no reason for this topic to exist. 7-2 Powerhouse Nelsonville-York will come in to McArthur petting their egos and deliver a hugh jass beating to Vinton County. The massacre will be bitter sweet in the fact that (a)- it was embarassing, and (b)- the season is over. It's a darn good thing that VC's basketball program has its act together. I look for them to be very successful for many years to come.
Hawkeye, you have continuously bashed the graduating class of 2008. I too heard about the attitude problems, and the animosity that went on because of these students in football season. Now tell me if I'm wrong here but many of those seniors went on to play basketball in the winter and all they did was positively contribute to a District Championship. A kid can only get away with as much as he's allowed to. Coach Combs obviously has set the tone that he doesn't put up with that kind of crap and disciplines them accordingly. Why was their drama in football season but not basketball? Hmmm? Only one part of the equations change from football to basketball and that would be the coaches.

Nellsonville-York: 56
Vinton County: 12

It's sad to see all this bashing between the vc community. I really didnt want to get on here and voice my opinion, but after seeing Hawkeye continue to down on class of 2008 really got to me. First off, I know many seniors that tried to get Dakota Johnson to play. The kid refused to play saying he didnt have time. Others kids just didnt play because they knew they wouldn't have a spot. Cough*your son*Cough. There was no discipline by the coaches. A Freshman tried to fight another Freshman, and the "Coach" just looked the other way. The class of 2008 was not perfect, but under Jeff Downs or Markus Games they would have done better than 4-6.

hawkeye,
you were talkin about the players this year, and how they are mainly young players. I don't think its his fault that they are having a bad season, but i do think its his fault he took all seniors that had seen playing time since their sophmore, junior year and still didn't win.
RB - Hurne=210lbs, Graves=190lbs, Batey=185lbs
Linemen - Dillon Guthrie=230, Puckett=240, Davidson=200, Woltz=215, Jarvis=240, Dustin Guthrie=240
Linebackers - ALL SENIORS
QB - senior, stewart=170lbs, 4.4s 40yrd. dash

HOW DID HE GO 4-6??? If he cant do better than 4-6 with this team, he shouldn't be coaching.

Hawkeyepierce,

I will not question your loyalty to Vinton County. You are indeed one of the first to offer your time and talents. For this, you should be commended.

However, I will question your decision making when it comes to the comments and the tone of those comments in some of your posts. There are some things that are best left unsaid. You have repeatedly expressed your dissatisfaction with last year's class of senior football players. You are a grown man questioning the attitudes and commitment of seventeen and eighteen year old boys on a public forum. I find this to be destructive and meddlesome. Whether you thought so or not, this is not the place to express those opinions. Being as close to the football program as you are, I find it unprofessional and unethical to publicly criticize a school's athletes the way you have last year's senior class. I realize you are sticking up for Coach Yates against the onslaught of negativity, but leave the comments about the athletes themselves (even if you did not mention specific names) out of your retorts. Not every post requires a response. Since you are fond of quotations, here's one by Samuel Johnson that might be appropriate in this situation.

"It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than open one's mouth and remove all doubt."
