Mick leaving 92 FM The Frog

Post by Thunder »

I caught the end of the Meigs//Wellston game on the radio and I thought I herd Mick Childs say this was his last game, if so I want to say Mick you will be greatly missed. I have really enjoyed listening to you and Rick over the years.

Where's he going? I know he can't be going far...the man LOVES Middleport. Help us out Hardfowl. Will this be the end of local sports on WYVK/WMPO or will you be the one to take over? The Middleport station has been doing sports for many many years...in fact they just celebrated their 50th anniversary this year and they've been doing sports for all 50 of those years. They've had so many talented sportscasters and DJ's go through that little station. It would really be ashame if they have to give up local sports. I can't see that happening though. Surely there's someone who will step in and take over if Hardfowl isn't able to do it with his teaching, coaching, and grandpa responsibilities.

Mick has taken a job as admissions director at Gallipolis Career College. He begins Monday. He had previously worked there as the school's director and recently has been teaching night classes. Friday was his last day at WYVK/WMPO. He and I broadcasted our last game together Friday night at Marauder Stadium. He has broadcasted games at the station for about 11 years. He and I have called games together for the last 6 years. Mick will be greatly missed.

Jimmer Soulsby and I will broadcast the Meigs/Belpre game Friday night. Sam Thompson and I will call the Eastern/Southern game Saturday night.

Good luck to Mick in his new position -- he will be missed on the radio and at Meigs and Meigs County games.

Maybe somebody can pass this note (which comes from Athens) along to Mick if he doesn't see it.

Good luck to Mick. He will be missed among those of us in the SE Ohio media fraternity.

Always good to talk to him whenever one of my Jackson County teams or even far back as Athens County teams met up with a Meigs County team and we covered the same game.

Buttermaker, I can't place a face with the name. Of course I don't know who hardfoul is either. Shame about Mick he really did a good job and cared about the kids of Meigs County.

I don't know if Mick was doing the show recently, but I remember when I was in college about 3-4 years ago, I really enjoyed listening to his high school football preview show every Thursday or Friday (can't remember which day) around noon. I would listen to it while I was on break between classes. He did an outstanding job and will be truely missed!!! Good luck Mick!

mick did a great job.

Sam Thompson is a teacher, and i think still a coach at EHS. he is a class guy, very knowledgeable, and i am sure he will do a great job too.

Always thought those 2 guys did a great job together. He will be missed on the Frog.

I just hope this doesn't end the Frog's great coverage of our local school's sports events!! They did such a great job covering not only Southern, Eastern and Meigs but Wahama as well.

Sports coverage of our areas' teams on "The Frog" will continue. Football playoffs and Wahama's final regular season games will be covered if phone lines are available. A full slate of high school basketball is scheduled. Mick will be greatly missed. It was a lot of fun working with him. I talked with him tonight. He is doing well and enjoying his new job. Everyone who listened to Frog sports will miss Mickey C. His favorite high school player,Chuck Roast, will miss him most.

Hardfowl....Are you taking the reigns as the new full time play-by-play announcer or are you sticking with color commentary? If you are the main man, I know you'll be great at it! You have a lot of sports knowledge and experience. Your vast coaching experience as well as officiating experience makes you a very reliable source of info for folks listening to the games on the radio. So glad to hear things will continue as usual at The Frog!

FrozenRope9,

I will be doing the play-by-play.
Jimmer Soulsby did the color on the Belpre game and will also do the New Lex game with me.
