Yes, Warren has improved but not to the extent that everyone is giving them credit for here. They still are not going to compete with the "Big Boys" of the conference. They have gotten stronger and the numbers have gotten better and hopefully will continue to do so. Until the players are trusted to make plays, they can only go so far though. This is just a game. Trust the kids to make the big play for you and give them a chance to shine. Good luck Warriors, we believe in you.

A bittersweet match-up for myself

The Warren Warriors (my Alma mater)

vs.

The Ironton Tigers (a beloved team of my childhood)

For years I followed Ironton and its trips to the playoffs. Some of my earliest memories are of my dad taking me to the Tank to see Carlos Snow and Cape. I remember the playoff run of 89 and the title over Cambell Memorial at the Shoe the first time it had turf. I remember Jermon Jackson and the 91 team that came so close. I grew up hating DeSales and Lancaster's Fulton Field. Even when in high school I made the trips down south to see the 99 team's run over Wyoming, Indian Hill, Valley View, and Mooney. I was there when they beat Valley View and knocked Strayer into next week, I was there when they blew the title against Perkins. I was there when Arden got destroyed by a player from Licking Valley, and remember the round 2 homegame vs. Jojo and the Trojans. I have probably been to more Ironton games than some people who live in Ironton, and I lived 3 hours away. Ironton football just like it was my father's is in my blood.

However, my allegiance is to Warren and I will be at the Tank friday pulling for a Warrior victory. The first time I have ever rooted against IHS. I know Warren football isn't where we all hope it could be, but we are doing great things and are slowly gaining respectability. For the first time since 2002, the team is entering week 10 and hasn't been mathematically eliminated. This in itself is a great achievement. A win against Ironton would give me eternal bragging rights versus my dad, but I know that the state championship banners that hang in Tiger Alley are the real bragging rights.

I hope the boys at Warren really take in the sights at Tanks, it is a gem of a facility one of few relics of old professional football. I have waited for this match-up for at least 20 years, and I can only hope that my boys in the blue and white can represent us well. We are 1-0 in Snyder, maybe we can find a way to get a W at the tanks.

Go Warriors

THE IMPORTANT THING FOR IRONTON IS ALWAYS IN THE TRENCHES!! IF IRONTON CAN DOMINATE THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE, IT'S A WRAP! WITH TALENTED BACKS AND SOMEWHAT OF A PASSING GAME THAT WE HAVE, WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO CONTROL THE GAME AND ALSO WATCH IF IRONTON'S RUNNING GAME IS ON POINT BECAUSE YOU WILL SEE IRONTON HAVE THE BALL MOST OF THE GAME THEN WARREN WILL DEFINATELY NOT BE ABLE TO PUT UP MORE THAN 1 OR 2 TD'S! TIGERS PUT UP 40+
GO TIGERS!! SMACK WARREN IN THE MOUTH AND CARRY THE BUTT KICKIN INTO THE PLAYOFFS!

Unfortunately :( Warren will make a very looooooong drive to Ironton. And in all honesty it will be an even Looooooonger drive home. Warren will hang tough for at least a half, then Ironton's depth will win out and......... who knows what will happen. Warriors can hopefully score three times but this will not be enough. And while I will hold my hopes as a Warren fan high, praying that the Warriors prove me real wrong. Ironton 40 Warren less.

Warriors please make me look foolish for posting this. Please, please please prove me a fool.

I have several Warren's listed. Which Warren is this one and where is it at?
Is it one of these schools? Warren Champion - Warren Harding - Warren Howland - Warren JF Kennedy - or Warren Western Reserve ?

None of those. Vincent Warren Local.

I would have to agree that Warren will hold their own offensively for a series or two until Ironton Adjusts to the tendancies regarding formations, down-and-distance and and over rhythm of the play calling. Defensively, I think Warren can do ok if, only if, the offense allows the defense to rest. Too many three and outs will wear out you kids faster than the flu bug. Also, please don't sub in kids for starters. The last three games look like complete blowout because Warren is subbing too soon. The opponent is scoring two or three times more on back ups. Allow the kids to finish it out.

ok, the reason I'm asking is possible that Vincent Warren Local has no playoff appearances in the school's history? Gray Fighting Tiger just updated the 'All Ohio Schools Playoff List' (which, unlike OHSAA's has been corrected and while he doesn't claim 100% accuracy, it's still far more so than OHSAA's) on Irontonfootball.com and Vincent Warren Local, nor, Warren Local is not listed either.

coal miner's son -

I didn't see the Chillicothe game, but Logan didn't score on any of Warren's back-ups.

The last two scores in our 49-3 win were by our JVs against the Warren JVs. The only difference on the first of those two is we left our varsity QB in to make sure the snap was clean and the handoffs were clean.

It's an issue of depth. When Warren puts in the "JV" they are playing lots of freshmen. They don't really have a JV this year. Academic ineligibility killed our sophomore class. Our best Sophs are part of the varsity rotation. We have about 10 kids per class (yes, that's an improvement). We have something like 15-16 Frosh, so we are playing a combined schedule of several Frosh games and just a couple JV games.

Warren is doing a lot with a little this year. It's the progress that we needed to make so that participation will continue to improve. Re-building is a long difficult progress.

Could be a very sloppy evening in the Tank with temps around lower 50s and a 80% chance of showers so umbrellas and raincoats will be on call for those setting in the visitors stands......

For those folks who would like a great pre-game dinner the Knights Of Columbus has excellent steaks and fish dinners along with good cold kool-aid on tap along with your favorite brands. Located on South 3rd Street about 1/2 mile from the stadium.....

I will be manning the cash register tomorrow at the Knights TTT. Hope to see some of you flow through. Good luck to the Tigers and safe travel to the Warriors. Special mention to the seniors who I hope have a great game and night. To a special cheerleader, who is the bagboy's sugar booger (in the famous words of Coach Coburn), have a great night, we are proud of you!

GO FIGHTING TIGERS!!! BEAT THE WARRIORS!!
