Week 10: Zanesville (4-5, 3-2) @ Jackson (5-4, 2-4)
Week 10: Zanesville (4-5, 3-2) @ Jackson (5-4, 2-4)
It's going to be Senior Night at Jackson when the Ironmen host the Zanesville Blue Devils this week. This is the first meeting between the two schools on the football field since Zanesville entered the SEOAL and will also be the last in league play, with the Blue Devils leaving after this season.
Jackson is coming off three straight blow-out losses, but is looking to end the season on a winning note. It's only a one game difference, but 6-4 feels a lot better than 5-5, so hopefully the Ironmen can pull through and get a win on senior night. It's going to be tough for the Ironmen because I believe Zanesville is much better than their 4-5 record would indicate. The Blue Devils are well coached and will definitely be prepared.
Jackson will most likely be without star RB Cody Huff after he aggravated his neck injury in the first quarter of last night's game against Logan. I just hate the fact that Cody is essentially going to miss the last four games of his senior season. Hopefully his teammates can come together and win one for him next Friday night.
Good luck to both teams.

Should be a great game. Both teams are very fundamentally strong up front and have good running backs.
Hate to hear that Huff re-injured himself and won't be available. He's a great football player.
Good Luck to both teams.

... and 5-5 feels a lot better than 4-6.
Three of our losses -- to Licking Valley, Wheeling Park and St. Charles -- were to three very strong teams. The other two losses were by two points at Logan, and blowing a two-touchdown lead at home in the fourth quarter against Chillicothe.
We'll also have Wes Tandy, who could be our best defensive player, back from missing the Gallia Academy game due to personal reasons.
Should be a good game, though, and we look forward to visiting your outstanding facility.

That'll depend on which Zanesville shows up.

Very true. 5-5 would feel a lot better for the Blue Devils. Much more positive heading into next season.
Zanesville has definitely lost to some VERY good football teams. As I said, they are much better than your typical 4-5 football team.
Have a safe trip down to Jackson. Hope you enjoy the visit to Alumni Stadium...but not too much. My Ironmen need to end this season with a win!

I see Zville coming into Jackson and getting a win. ZHS has lost to some really good teams and Jackson is banged up.

You still have to play it. We've got a couple banged up, too, with two of them out for this game (again). We've also got to make the trip.
I suspect this game will be what you should expect from two .500-ish teams -- pretty even, with plenty of pride to play for.

Where were Boggs and Trace? I couldn't even find them on the sidelines? Are they injured or sick?
Hopefully they are OK and can play their final games on senior night.
It's going to be tough for Jackson........they need to not get the lead early and make a couple big plays on defense.
Good Luck Ironmen!

Re: Week 10: Zanesville (4-5, 3-2) @ Jackson (5-4, 2-4)
Jackson had previously had an open date posted on the OHSAA website for Week 10 of next year. That open date is no longer there. Does anyone know who Jackson has scheduled for Week 10 next year?
Re: Week 10: Zanesville (4-5, 3-2) @ Jackson (5-4, 2-4)
The way I hear it you guys are coming up to Zville next year. If anyone has a better source please share.

zbd,
I suspected the same thing, but I hadn't heard anything solid. That would be a great deal if it is true.
Zanesville is a great opponent to have on the schedule. I'm sure it would be difficult for either school to find a Week 10 game otherwise.

Been a rough three game stretch for Jackson and it doesn't get much easier with Zanesville. I hope the Ironmen play well on Friday night...would really like to see 6-4 rather than 5-5. Must tackle better than they did against Logan. Need to get the running game going also, but might be hard to do without Huff.
Scheduling Zanesville next year would be a good move for Jackson. Grandstaff has ZVille moving in the right direction and playing a competitive D2 school in non-league will challenge Jackson to raise their level of play. Hope that the Week 10 matchup for next year turns out to be a sure thing.

Re: Week 10: Zanesville (4-5, 3-2) @ Jackson (5-4, 2-4)
I can confirm that Jackson is visiting Zanesville in Week 10 of '09.
Actually, our schedule doesn't look much different than it would if we'd stayed in the league one more year (we will still play Logan, Chillicothe, Marietta, Gallia Academy and Jackson next season). The only "issue" at the moment is what to do with Week 5. Warren Local waffled and then backed out of a deal (with $$$ attached) to return to Sulsberger next fall (giving us five home games).
We are happy that both Gallia Academy and Jackson both opted to "fulfill" the back-end of the two-year schedule even though we are leaving the SEOAL after this school year.
Beyond '09, I'm not sure how it's going to look. It will probably be more OVAC-oriented again.

Thanks for the confirmation, Zanes-Vegas. Really glad to hear that.

Zanes-
i am sure it has been discussed, (but if so i missed it), so i will ask why did Z-ville decide to leave the SEOAL?
