Unfortunately I know Logan is going off after '09 as of right now. With the 7-game round-robin in the league, we won't have a 4th non-league game in addition to our current contracts with Lancaster, Pickerington North, and Hamilton Township.

It is a possibility that the Logan/Lancaster game would not be re-newed. Is the ZHS/NHS series going to stay in week 1?

I would like to ZHS stay on our schedule if possible.

Locos --
I'm pretty sure Nerk will stay Week 1 now. I think the only way that series ends is if Nerk ends it.

I think we'd really like to keep Logan in there somewhere, somehow. That series is starting to approach the Nerk series on our "fan meter." But that's going to be up to Ron and Scott to figure out, eh? :-D

Attack --

It's mostly about travel, really. Football usually isn't so much an issue because your trips are limited to weekends (we got home at 1 a.m. from Gallipolis the other night; last year it was around 1:30 getting back from Ironton). But it's the other sports that suffer it more, especially during the week. Granted, the SEOAL has tried to schedule longer trips for the weekend, but it's still fairly long for us for most of the SEOAL sites. It's a relative tie between Marietta, Warren and Logan for the shortest league trip, about 1 1/2 hours. And quite honestly, Marietta is the only "easy" trip (almost all interstate travel). Honestly, it's a lot easier for us to go to Steubenville than it is to go to Logan or Warren -- and the driving time is about the same.

I would also note that our gates have suffered, too. In football, I still contend that some of that is due to 7:30 p.m. kickoffs making it very difficult for many visiting fans to make it to our place in time for the game to start. It's often much easier (and less costly) to stay at home and listen to the game on the local radio.

Right now, in football, our shortest road trip is either to Newark or Licking Valley (depending on the year). Wheeling Park (Wheeling Island Stadium) is a straight-shot hour down I-70. St. Charles was about an hour in the opposite direction.

It's not about to happen, but if we were to be in the MVL, we'd have five opponents who are in the same county, the longest trip being about 20 minutes.

ZV -

Hopefully it will be a one-year hiatus like 2003.

I know that our contract with Hamilton Township is 3 years (2008, 2009, and 2010), and will potentially be an open week again in 2011. Lancaster has not been signed beyone 2009, but I assume it will be extended.

I'm not sure about the Pickerington North contract.

I think it is in the interest of both Logan and Zanesville to resume the series ASAP. This is a good series that will be competitive over the years going forward. Zanesville in the MVL? Just doesn't feel right to me. I think at some time in the future, Logan and Zanesville and some other teams will coalesce around another league. I can hear Army warming up off stage now.

Josh Brown (#9) and Tyler Boggs (#11) have shared time at QB throughout the season and are both seniors. Brown is more of a running QB while Boggs is more of a passer. Eric Landrum (#5) hasn't seen much action at QB this season except near the end of games, but he is the best overall athlete of the three in my opinion. He'll be the starter for Jackson next season. On Friday night, Brown will most likely be the QB on his senior night, but Landrum could see some action as well. You won't see Boggs.

I haven't heard anything on Huff. He took a hit on his second carry against Logan and was forced to leave the game. You could tell that he was in a lot of pain. I honestly don't think he will play but I would love to see him out there on his senior night. Gotta think about his future health first though, which means it probably wouldn't be a good idea to risk it.

Thanks Ironman2

I too would like to see Huff herd alot good things about him. I feel the same way health comes first a neck injury is nothing to play with.

Ironman2

I have seen them in spread and power does it depend on the QB too see what formation they run?

Zanesville should win this one easy.

Nice analysis Army. Did you forget that you already picked Zanesville once? Or maybe you're just following the trend of repeating yourself constantly like you have on the Logan-Chillicothe thread.

zbd,

The QB doesn't necessarily indicate what Jackson is going to be doing. Brown and Boggs each have their strengths, but you can't necessarily predict what Jackson will do simply based on who the QB is. I do feel like Jackson will stick to the power running game against Zanesville though. Doubt if the Blue Devils see much of a spread attack from the Ironmen this week. It has been successful in some cases for the Ironmen, but not very consistent. Jackson loves to run the football and that's what they'll probably do.

I should've known that would be coming after my post on the Logan/Chilly topic. Nice job. You really got me good with that one.

In all my years of reading these forums and posting every now and then, I dont think I have ever come across anyone quite like Army, or whatever he likes to call himself these days.

I'm looking forward to a good, clean game between two schools who've never played each other before, in a facility that's one of the best out there.

dazed&confused ...

ZHS would only be interested in the MVL if, as our school has suggested, the MVL considers bringing in a couple schools and then breaks into a large-school/small-school divisional set-up. However, the MVL has never been known to be progressive, and any such change comes glacially. We are, though, quite pleased and thankful that the MVL will be adding our two middle schools to their scheduling starting next school year. While Roosevelt and Grover Cleveland will not qualify for league titles nor play in any league tournaments, it will most certainly be a tremendous difference when it comes to travel time. I would also suspect it will help improve some gate receipts on both sides of the agreement.

With Logan, I think Locos is seeing what I'm seeing -- there might be a brief hiatus in the series, but it won't last long. I think that Logan-Zanesville makes too much sense (especially when you're talking school size) to let that series lapse. And I think that it's developed into a series that fans on both sides can wrap their arms around. It means something. That's not to say that if we'd stayed in the SEOAL we might not have developed some similar rivalries, but that would have taken a lot of time (and cost) that, honestly, we were not prepared to invest any longer. Still, I think you're on to something about the future that could come to fruition, though I don't know if Logan would be involved. I'm not sure it would be easy for Chieftain athletics to make an easy break with the SEOAL due to Logan's longevity as a member school.

Zanesville's passing game will be the winner in this game. Jackson won't be able to stop it. Zanesville's defense will button up and close down Jackson's running game.

I am going with:

Zanesville 28

Jackson 14

There's three...might as well make it four.

At least you actually talked about the game in that post.

You're really pushing it to the limit, aren't you?

This "Who's Army?" stuff is just too hilarious, by the way. You're not fooling anyone. Why don't you just stay put on that new site and let the rest of us actually talk about high school sports without your nonsense? Over there you can call me a whiner and a cupcake all while hanging out with your buddies at the same time.

Good luck to the Ironmen against Zanesville, especially the seniors who will be putting on the red and white for the last time. This has been a tough stretch of games for the Ironmen, but Friday night is a chance to end it all on winning note. Play hard and have fun!
