East, Green to square off twice in 2012
This is the first time I have heard of a team playing the same opponent twice in a season. I guess this is better than an open week or a very long road trip.

The East Tartans and the Green Bobcats will play each other on the gridirion twice in 2012, the Portsmouth Daily Times has learned.
The games will be Week Three in Sciotoville and Week Nine in Franklin Furnace. The second game will count in the SOC I standings.
“We are looking forward to playing our friends at East twice next year,†Green Director of Athletics Tate Skinner said in a text message. “I believe it will be good for both schools and generate a lot of local interest in the rivalry.
“The crowds should be good for both teams. More importantly, the communication between (East Director of Athletics) Adam Bailey and myself will ensure that everything goes smoothly.â€
On the Bobcats side, contracts with Fayetteville-Perry and Bracken County (Ky.) fell through and they ended their contract with Lancaster Fairfield Christian Academy. Green will travel Week Two to take on Millersport.

That's dumb..... 4 and 5 years ago we played a good respectable schedule against bigger schools such as piketon and fairland and decent wv teams as in matewan and buffalo and we played them well almost beating piketon in 06 and beating a really good buffalo team.

Millersport is a long trip - but will be a pretty good matchup for the Bobcats!

I do not understand how these two schools could not find other schools to play.

Back in the old days of high school football, it was more common to play one team twice in a season.
Re: East, Green to square off twice in 2012
back in 94, i believe, Eastern played Miller twice in the same season. If I remember right the 2nd of the 2 counted in the TVC standings. I think it was Eastern's first year in the league.

Ironton and Portsmouth have played multiple times in regular season before. In today's economic climate I don't blame either school.
Re: East, Green to square off twice in 2012
Not many schools want too play the smaller schools, due to the point system, its sad that these small schools can't get schools to play locally, but if they don't have winning records it hurts the schools when they try too schedule games with the bigger schools.

Why not?
Playing twice is a good way to build a rivalry and diesel fuel ain't cheap theses days.

Re: East, Green to square off twice in 2012
It only happen because Green's AD is from East and he wanted to give East another home game so they can get gate money and two wins on the season. Green also plays Northwest next season and in 2013 Northwest will be in SOC I in football only.

You'd get 3.5 points for beating Green but if Green goes 5-5 beating 4 D6 schools and 1 D5....equaling 21.5 points, whereas beating Logan last year would've been 5.5 points plus their two wins over a D3 and a D4....for a total of 15 points.
Beating PWest or Burg as D5's will almost always be way more points than beating D2 Marietta or D3 Vinton Co....and about 20 other local examples.
As I've stated many times Trimble, South Gallia and Symmes Valley all would've been nearly the same amount of points as Jackson beating D1 Columbus St Charles....and I'd bet my house St Charles would beat any of those 3 by 25+.....probably 40+

Re: East, Green to square off twice in 2012
old bird is correct that Miller and Meigs Eastern played twice in the 1990's. It was two years in a row. Weeks 4 and 8. Both were D6 size and neither could find a week 4 opponent that was comparable in size and a reasonable distance away.
Millersport is Buckeye Lake. Mapquest Buckeye Lake and you will know how far it is from Green.

Millersport is not in Buckeye Lake,it is a town all of its own.
Buckeye Lake is a village about 5 miles away.

Two games versus the same opponent though rare is not unheard of
and we may see more of it as you suggest due to travel costs and
scheduling problems. A round robin leauge schedule plus select games
as non conference against conference rivals might be the ticket to cut
costs and build gate reciepts. The alternative would be for Ohio to do away
with leauges and go to district scheduling as in Kentucky.

Re: East, Green to square off twice in 2012
it dont cost the schools alot of money for these 2 to play 2x as opposed to either school having to take a 2+ hour road trip for a game, its a shame these schools are in dire financial straights, same thing is going on all over the state.
