Sounds like a great facility, just stinks that it has to be so far away for LU.

Hopefully Burg will come out and play physical smashmouth football like they have played all year. Im hoping that Burg gets another shot at the Worst Side.

Not 100%, but for you Burg fans. I believe that your opponent is on Time Warner local in demand. If you want to take a look at what your facing.

I wish the Burg the best of luck. This coming from a Falcon Fan. I hope to see a rematch of Burg and West Side. I really hope you win, but honestly think you guys won your last game when you beat Minford this week. Like I said I wish you the best of luck because I think you will need it.

Re: Round 2 Wheelersburg vs. Liberty Union at Jackson
Man, am I glad this game is at Jackson. I thought for sure they would put us at Lancaster and I hate that drive and that field. Jackson is an awesome place to play a game. Great stadium, great seating, ample parking, good places to eat, and a turf field. It just doesn't get much better than that.
Hopefully someone from Nelsonville will be kind enough to get on here and give us some insight as to what the team will be up against. I'm sure the coaches will have the team well prepared, as they always do, but we fans like to know a little about what to expext as well.
Thanks for all the well wishes from the Minford fans. Very classy!!!

Wish I was going to be in Jackson this weekend so I could watch this game. Doesn't look like that's going to happen.
Good luck to Wheelersburg. I think they'll get the win and move on to the regional finals.

I'm rooting for the Burg.....but for the sake of fair play......PLEASE LU don't take the bus down RT 93...just don't.
RT 22 to 159 to 35 to 32.........if you are eating in Jackson take the rt 93 exit off of 32.....if you are going straight to the field continue on 32 W until you get to Mayhew RD (about 1 mile past RT 93 ramp)....turn right and then turn rt on rt 139.....go 1 mile and you are there saving about 5 minutes of town traffic.......and even more time if you leave that way.

Re: Round 2 Wheelersburg vs. Liberty Union at Jackson
Here's what to expect. Probably the best defense that we faced this year. By far the hardest hitting team that we played. Our back had over 200 yards rushing, however, we could not get the offense going. Arnold would bust a 20-40 yarder, but the drive would stall on downs. They did a nice job of taking him out of the game by not kicking to him. Most teams are either big or quick. LU is both. Q-back takes many snaps from the shotgun where he will throw, keep it himself or hand it to the back next to him. He does all three quite well. I believe the QB (#20) is going to Toledo to play baseball. They will show you an unbalanced line and line up in a power-I and this was where we had a little success. We would fill the box, stunt and our backers were quick to the football. They only gained 109 yards on the ground and had a total of 10 first downs.
They have a kicker that will put on a show during pre-game. A sidewinder that can hammer it through from anywhere. If it comes down to a kicking game, my money is on LU. Oh...he punts as well as he kicks.
On defense, you will see a 50 as most schools. We could not get outside. When we could get through the initial line of scrimmage and kick it out, we could not get past their deep people. We through the ball 13 times and they had pressure on our QB almost every play.
Two more things...their coach likes to be on the field. Sideline ref warned him all night long. The other was the late hit that was put on our WR that sent him to the hospital. It was not so much the late hit...it was the celebration of the hit afterwards. Uncalled for. LU fans will respond to this statement and my comeback will be this..."read the article in Sunday's Athens Messenger".
This should make a great game. My prediction is 24-21...LU

For Wheelersburg fans returning to Jackson since the Pirates scrimmaged Jackson back in August. McDonald's is rebuilding its building so there is currently no active McDonald's in town right now. But Dakota's is good if you want a good steak and a sit down meal.

Re: Round 2 Wheelersburg vs. Liberty Union at Jackson
Lot more LU fans on the huddle. Lot of them talking about how small Burg seems to be.
Most of all of them are complaing about the drive to Jackson. Think they got skewered on the site. Someone on there asked them where they think the game should be played and I'll ask any LU fan on here the same question. Where do you think this games hould have been played?
Chilli and Logan Elm are out because they are still playing. Circleville is not a good stadium for any playoff game. Logan would have been about a 30 mile drive for Lu and a 110 mile drive for the Burg. How would that be fair. It will not take LU as long as they think it will to get to Jackson. I always thought they tried to play closer to the higher seeds home, but see that that got shot all to hades with West playing Ready in Logan.
Ohsaa strikes again.

Good luck to Wheelersburg. Should be a good game and I will be there pulling for the Pirates and ultimately the SOC. Show them what Southern Ohio football is about. Sounds like LU is a physical team but Burg should be ready for it after a very physical game with Minford last night. Can't imagine it being any more physical than last night's game. Good luck.

I think that if Liberty Union goes to Lancaster, then down Rt.33 to RT. 93, it is 70.5 miles. Just go to google maps and then put in Baltimore to Jackson. Go under where it syas show options and click on advoid highways and it will show you this route. 93 can be a little curvy, but it is 55 all the way and you can make good time on it. It says 2hours and 20 minutes, but I think if you can't drive 70 miles faster than that, that you shouldn't be on the road.
Here is to a safe trip for both communities and here is also to an injury free game for both.
Good luck Pirates.
I agree, great location. This LU fan ain't belly-achin. Ive been to JAckson as a coach and a spectator. Its a great place. Even if we traveled down 23 to 35, you can get to Chilli in exactly 50 minutes with the new by-pass around Lancaster and then shoot down 35, although 33 to 93 would be the quicker route, but that 93 really wasnt built for a bus.lol. Either way, it's fine, b/c the trip for you guys isn't the best. Those roads getting you up to 32 are pretty curvy, but your used to it.lol These LU boys are used to corn fields up here in Fairfield County.
This is a great match-up. The burg is a very good program. The Lions are used to playing top-notch prgrams in the past few years-Newark Cath, Amanda, West Jeff. Yes, we may have the size advantage, but you aint foolin me.I've seen the Burg several times in the past 10 years, and I know they always have quick, smash-mouth players.I definitely want my Alma-Mater to win, but it ain't gonna be easy.Good luck to both teams on an injury free game. GO LIONS! As afr as what to expect, bishtakes explained it quite well. We have a ver good backfield, especially Dustin Love with Magley the FB leading the way.The Weaver boy at wing back is pretty good. The coaches son, Sam Johnson is enormous, along with the MaCafee kid. Dan Johnson, the HC is an old school unbalanced wing-t fan.You will see variations of this with a wing back and some unbalanced, then the next play they'll be in the shotgun running the oh-so-popular "zone read". The QB is big but very athletic and will run when he has to. Come crunch time, expect him to line up and try to run it down your throat.Thats just what hes used to doing. Gonna be a doozy!

Re: Round 2 Wheelersburg vs. Liberty Union at Jackson
Does Liberty Union play on turf? I don't think they do but someone from Liberty Union can let me know for sure.
Wheelersburg has played at Alumni Stadium four times in the stadium's five-year history if you count three scrimmages against Jackson in four years including this year. Its only actual counting game at Alumni Stadium was the stadium's first ever playoff game in: the 2004 D5 Region 19 final against Amanda-Clearcreek.
The stadium's first football game was Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004 when Jackson beat Vinton County 29-6.

Re: Round 2 Wheelersburg vs. Liberty Union at Jackson
LU looks like Waverly from last year. Big line, Big Qb that can throw the ball, good Rbs. Defense swarms to the ball. 8-0 when they played the Burg. 8-1 when they left. Burg needs to stay disciplined and not let a receiver BEHIND YOU!! GEEZ. let the DEs contain and play the game safties!!
burg blockers and runners need to run HARD and get to blocks quickly!! This aint SOC2, this is playoffs. Get off the snaps and get outside and block!!
Burg people have had to travel to Cincinnati to play games in week 2 vs GVV and many others. 2.5 hr drives vs .5 hrs for many of those teams. Burg knows how to travel and we dont complain too much!! LOL. Good luck to both schools and congrats to both making it this far!

No sir, they do not. They have a somewhat crappy field that sits next to the feed mill and paper mill.mmmm what a lovely smell. Thats how we get a lot of home wins...the smell from the mill sedates the opposing team.lol Actually, LU's stadium is about the same size/set up as the Burg's home field. You guys just have the lovely stinch of the river instead of a paper mill.lol
