South Gallia 2009
Re: South Gallia 2009
If the kids care how they are doing, they will not say that they are going to just bench. I have seen kids actually laugh at the kids that did not do all the lifting. I even did it myself. My little brother was a 450 bencher but only squattted 400, so we made fun of him for it. (b/c he skipped set at squats)
And Just benching is better than playing XBOX. I also do not believe that I said that a coach's official stance should be that something is better than nothing.
Some lifts can be counterproductive, agreed, but as I said SG's coaches wouldn't let athletes do something to hurt themselves.

i dont think you have to lift to be a good football player. im a pretty small guy but i bet i could go out there and just run right by everyone and not have to worry about how big they are

Yeah, because there are plenty of successful pro football players who don't lift weights.... give me a break DASANI. I would bet my life savings that if you don't lift, someone who does will rule you on the field.

Not gonna disagree with you there. If the wrong kid is the leader there can be all sorts of problems!
Absolutely, I would also want all of them to do the workouts and they should be a part of being on the team.
When I used to coach, we had what we called "Squat Dodgers"

I get a kick out of it when I see the guys that have impressive upper bodies and no lower bodies.
48 inch chest and a 28 inch waist!
I have to be careful when I weight train not to squat too heavily and often or I have to go buy new jeans. I easily gain two sizes when I squat.

Just like that one set of pictures of Arnold where he's in water just up to his knees because he was embarrassed by his lack of calf muscles...

Is that in the job description there? Sounds like a great gig if you can get it. Just think, being paid to peruse SEOP. What a job.
Isn't that the truth. Especailly when someone invades and cuts down other teams on here. I think someone is Gestapo.
What gestapo are you referring to? Careful, BIG BRO is watching.

How many of our kids will follow Justy if he gets the GA job?
I havent heard anything about Coach Burleson heading to GA. He has been working everyone in the weightroom just as hard as he has in the years before so I dont know where he would have time to even think of another position. But, if that is what Coach Burleson wants, then I wish him good luck. I can guarantee you this, IF and that is a huge IF Coach Burleson leaves SG for GA there will be no hard feelings at all. You have to look at his record and what he has done to bring SG to where it is at now. If he was chosen at GA it would be a good decision by their administration if they want to bring insomeone who will teach the game and has one of the best defensive minds I have ever seen.
The part about some SG players going with him to GA? I dont think you would see any of that happen!

Re: South Gallia 2009
What player from SG would GA even need? Could any of them start at GA. Just asking. Also, read on another thread that the coach has tried several times to leave, but hasn't been able to. What makes anyone think GA will hire him? Again, just asking.
1.) With GA having a somewhat down year I am sure they could use a few of SG's players. I couldnt tell you if any of them could start cause I never watched GA play this year or any of the past 3 seasons. This is pointless. It has nothing to do with any situation.
2.) Him trying to leave several times could also just be rumors. But, if he did try to leave what kind of coach does not try and better himself? How many DVI football coaches have you seen coach football at the same DVI school for 25+ years? Not many huh? DVI football is at the bottom of the food chain in this state. Your not gonna find many coaches that will turn down a DI-DV to stay at a DVI school. Better example!
Where do most of your 1A college coaches come from? SMALLER COLLEGES
Wherever Coach Burleson ends up, whether it be SG or any other school in the entire U.S. I am sure he will give them success. Maybe not immediate or a quick fix, but when he has time, he can do some work.

1A doesn't exist anymore.
With all of your knowledge, I think you know what I meant by 1A!

Re: South Gallia 2009
who is going to be head coach if justy takes the ga job
I would say that Coach Peck has waited long enough to have his shot...
Re: South Gallia 2009
I would second that statement. Jason has been involved with the program since he graduated in 1996. He would deserve a shot.

I don't know if this is true, but someone involved in athletics at SG has said that the board does not even really want Peck on the staff, much less as a head coach.
