Re: Competitive Balance
It actually does, despite the fact that's counter to your belief that results must be proportional to representation.

Re: Competitive Balance
Actually it doesn't. You are comparing the disproportion of races in a sport to the disproportion of high school championships won in a state. The factors that cause both disproportions are completely different.
Why do 1/6 of the schools in Ohio win nearly 1/2 of the state championships?
Why do 1/6 of the schools in Ohio win nearly 1/2 of the state championships?
And that's the bottom line, b/c Stone Cold said so....

Re: Competitive Balance
Do Private schools recruit......of course they do. Fact is, they have to recruit for EVERY STUDENT that walks through their doors, athlete or not. They have to convince people to not only pay property taxes that fund the local public schools, but to also be willing to shell out tuition money for the private school as well.
What these private schools have learned is that there is a ton of free advertising to be had by having their school's name splashed across the newspapers every week for their teams athletic successes. Make no mistake, they promote their academics as well, but it's often the athletic teams that give that name recognition to families with kids entering H.S. - all that free publicity is a door opener.
For many of these private schools, their lifeblood (new paying customers) is continued name recognition - without it their numbers dry up. It is important for these schools to achieve in athletics. Often times, those that run the local publics really don't care a whole lot about athletics.....they have leaned toward the academic side all of their lives.
Often times - how important it is to those running the place has a huge bearing on how successful whatever program it is that they care most about.....

Sure, I understand your point there.Stone Cold wrote:Actually it doesn't. You are comparing the disproportion of races in a sport to the disproportion of high school championships won in a state. The factors that cause both disproportions are completely different.
Since 2006, all of the Big 10 football titles have been won by four schools: Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan State, and Wisconsin. Why do 1/6 of the schools in Ohio win nearly 1/2 of the state championships?
Why do (>)1/4 of the schools win 1/1 of the Big 10 titles? Does the Big 10 need competitive balance so schools like Indiana and N'Western
have a shot?

Re: Competitive Balance
The college comparison makes no sense either. They can all recruit. You basically have 14 private schools in the Big Ten if you were even about to try and compare, which you can't.
Re: Competitive Balance
The Big 10 already has competitive balance, it's called equal distribution of tv and bowl game money, no matter if you are Ohio State and Michigan or Rutgers and Indiana.formerfcfan wrote:Sure, I understand your point there.Stone Cold wrote:Actually it doesn't. Re: Competitive Balance
Throw in the open enrollment publics, some of them selective open enrollment like the MAC schools, and it is pretty one-sided. Like I said there are other issues such as socioeconomic, coaching and others, but there is a competitive advantage when you can draw kids from a larger area and also pick and choose like some of these schools do.1987chieftains wrote:in this years final four

Catholic schools are not what god wanted. Just rich people segregating their kids from poor people. Public schools take all of God's children

Re: Competitive Balance
you are also correct bman. larger cities have a bigger pool to draw from. and get more exposure to the media which in turn help johnny super star get recruited to a major DI. when johnny super star is really just as good as the jimmy from the country.bman wrote:Throw in the open enrollment publics, some of them selective open enrollment like the MAC schools, and it is pretty one-sided. There used to be a time where Catholic schools were not exclusive on the basis of tuition, you know.Raider6309 wrote:Catholic schools are not what god wanted. Just rich people segregating their kids from poor people. Public schools take all of God's children

Idc about little catholic schools, I'm talking about St Ignatius and Akron SVSM. St Ignatius gets 6 million dollars a year from alumni. This money is used for tuitionTheFlyingDutchman wrote:Raider6309 , Your post is utter bull$hit

Re: Competitive Balance
Seeing as how most Catholic schools in OH are not like SVSM and Ignatius, perhaps you should refrain from generalizing Catholic schools.Raider6309 wrote:Idc about little catholic schools, I'm talking about St Ignatius and Akron SVSM.
