Is Portsmouth really dropping Burg?

I think the OHSAA should just let Burg skip all regular season games and start their season in Week 11. There aren't any teams in driving distance that can compete with their superior skills and ability.

There is absolutely no upside for Portsmouth playing Burg.

1. Portsmouth is trying to rebuild their program
2. The SOC doesn't want Portsmouth in their league so why would they want to play SOC teams.
3. Losing to Burg on a consistent basis doesn't get you any computer points.
4. If you don't play them you don't have to put up with Burg's crowd.

There are plenty of good teams in the region willing to play Portsmouth.

Who wouldn't want to play in one of the nicest facilities in SE Ohio.

Let Burg continue to think they are better than everyone else and go find someone else to play. Maybe Coshocton has an opening next year that Burg can get.

2. I bet P-town will still have Valley, Minford and maybe waverly on the schedule

I don't remember when it was, I think it was in the 90's but that year good ol Curl waits until the summer to inform the Burg they wouldn't be playing Burg that season and left Burg with only 9 games and they didn't make the playoffs because of that one game. After that I would have never played P-town again but for some reason the series started back up and since 2007 this game has been a laugher.


I say good riddance and if I'm Burg I would never play them again, in any sport.

1. Good thing you aren't an AD..school would be awful with that attitude of yours.
2. Won't play Minford or Waverly in the next few years lol, West and Valley would be the 2 teams from the soc.

1. Burg has been trying to schedule the Cleveland Browns and they are only open week 3. This could now be a reality people.
2. Burg would much rather play more SOC I schools like Northwest, Symmes Valley and Notre Dame to keep it in the SOC family.
3. Not filling the week with an OHSAA sponsored program actually can help in computer points (just ask your local number Harbin Points master about divisors).
4. If you don't play them, you don't have to see your Alma Mater and where your kids used to go to school.

There are plenty of good teams in the FCS that may schedule Burg.

Who wouldn't want to lose against THE premier high school sports program in the state of Ohio?

I'm not the one on here claiming greatness lol. I have stated many times Portsmouth program is down, still support them though, don't live in the glory days. Once again Burg program is good, probably the best in southern Ohio, that being said they have not much to speak for it. Greatness would be stepping on the field against state champions, that isn't Burg!

See you're one of those that can see the forest for the trees. If you've watched football at the state level or seen southern Ohio football when it was strong you would see Wheelersburg this year was average and will probably be the same next year. They were legit last year. They looked good because they are playing in the worst 2 year span of Southern Ohio football ever. They will stay the same because you're right they have been solid for years, but the area will be better and they won't look near as dominate.

river valley is much improved, but very far away in comparison to wheelersburg. and will be a pittance gatewise as to compared with the Trojans.

Maybe Trojans not winning in a decade or so is the reason, but how many times has Ports beat Ironton in that time, and then joined a league with them.

I'm tellin' ya, that I've personally talked to 2-different ppl who are close to the PHS program, and they didn't say, they were not competitive, so they felt they had to drop Burg. They said, they want nothing to do with Burg b/c they recruited their star QB in his Jr year and left them holding the bag and then put 45-points on them. For all PHS cares, Burg can drive to Timbuktu to find a team to play.

That's completely laughable. Why would Burg recruit a QB? Especially if they beat Portsmouth with a running clock that year. Grasp for straws people. That has to be the dumbest thing ever said. I'm sure Burg can find a quality opponent to fill that slot. It wouldn't take much.
