Grad's to the Bulldogs, well played game by both teams and good sportsmanship by both sides.Seemed like after the 2nd qtr. turnover in the endzone just deflated Alex. The 2nd half belonged to Athens.Good luck Athens rest of the way.Spartans keep heads up,still have football to play. 8)

ATHENS -- 34
ALEXANDER -- 6 FINAL !!!

What a night for Athens...
They were hittin' on all cylinders tonight...
Cameron Tope was thanking his lineman after they dominated from the 2nd quarter on...

Athens got the running attack goin' early and didn't need to pass tonight. Both teams came out running and the game just moved right on.

Athens had some key plays with:
Tope runnin wild breakin' an 80 yard TD run...
Herron gettin an INT for a Touchback as the Spartans were tryin' to tie the game...
Stanley (thanks Coach Skinner for the name) grabbin' an INT on a fake punt by Alexander...
ATHENS LINE for getting the team rolling and never stoping...
ATHENS DEFENSE for holding Alexander to just 6....

Good Win to Coach Adams and his staff, a good group of guys who have this team playing some inspired football...

PS-- The FANS have been there at the ATHENS games loud and proud, would have been nice if they could have had a place to sit over there on the visitors side...

#6 is Joe Stanley, and he made a great read and play. Looked like a scouting report interception from the stands.

The Bulldog offense was very efficient, and the defense was terrific, especially the second half.

Congratulations to Coach Adams and the entire staff. The Bulldogs were well prepared for this game.

How about JV player Johnny Young's run for touchdown in the fourth quarter. :122245

If there is a stronger player pound for pound in the TVC that sopmore Cody Lawson, than I have not seen them yet. He really runs hard.

Good Luck Spartans the rest of the way.

Athens defense is pretty stout, and the offense will suprise some people. If you haven't seen Trey Harris play quarterback, he is a major upgrade, and should have gotten the opportunity sooner. Athens 20 Alex 14

my thoughts exactly. with Harris slingin the ball and Tope running it, the bulldog offense is one to be reckoned with in the TVC.

Yeah right!

Athens has a long way to go before there offense is an offense to be reckoned with...They are getting better but they still have alot of room for improvement....

good, compelling argument right there

they put up 22 points on Gallia who went down and beat Jackson, put up 34 on an Alexander D who shut out Fed Hock. before Harris took over (first start was week 3, i believe) athens averaged 11 points a game and has averaged 21 since. get a clue buddy.

^^^^^^^^When I think of an offense to be reckoned with I think of an offense who scores 35 to 40 on a regular basis...Athens is getting better but they still have work to do....I remember an Athens offense that WAS an offense to be reckoned with and it was run by Gregory....Now that was an Athens offense.

that was an offense to be reckoned with in the SEOAL (an exceptionally good SEOAL that year) which is very different from a relatively weak TVC this year.

when i say they're an offense to be reckoned with i dont mean they're putting up video game numbers in yards and points, i mean they're putting up numbers that keep them in the game long enough to possibly pull out a win at the end. 26-13 vs. Meigs, 16-0 vs. Fed Hock (and the Bulldogs played terribly that game), 27-13 vs. Bloom Carrol, 31-22 vs. Gallia...all mere 2 score deficits against some good teams, not to mention putting up 25 and 33 in wins over Vinton County and Alex. all of this is a huge step up from just 2 years ago when you had scores like 56-16, 55-0, 48-0, 69-13, 52-0. the bulldogs arent pushovers anymore, they might lose but they'll do it fighting tooth and nail to the very end.

it sure is nice to get on here and read mature post (sarcasm). congrats to athens i did not see that big of a loss coming to alex. if anybody saw the interception in the endzone could anyone agree of contradict for me. from my sideline view it looked like a jump ball, jump balls go to the offense. i talked to a buddy and he said the athens player came down with it and the alex player tried to steal it from him. i dont know. i am sure someone will get on here and say something about me complaining. go for it.

^^^ragarding the play in question...

i was on the athens side, about 20 or 25 yardline, so i had a really good view of this play and all bias aside, i think the refs made the right call. from my angle it looked like herron (athens defender) got to the ball first and the receiver grabbed on to it before herron had a chance to pull it down to his body and from there the struggle for the ball ensued.
