Re: Game of the Week 7: Minford (6-0) vs. Wheelersburg (6-0)
Not so fast my friend burg balla. There is some truth to what you state but the huge victory margin for Burg came prior to 2000. In 1999 the Minford players were 7-10 years old. This century hasn't been bad for Minford and is getting better. Forget the T shirts and stuff, the fact is this is a big game for both teams. Both are 6-0 and have a lot of computer points. Minford has a lot of team speed, and so does Burg. The key matchup are the two lines against one another. Minford's O line has shown it can dominate another team but this is the best D line in terms of speed that they have played this year. The game will be won in the trenches.Although neither team played its best game last year, it was a great game last year. I'd look for more of the same this year. I know Minford has not played its best game yet. I don't know about Burg. The next installment Tuesday.

I'm pretty sure this needs to be a poll
but i'll have to go with Burg in this one probably by a touchdown or 2

im not sure about this week....minford only beat the best qb in the area and that doesnt mean anything becuase we havent played anyone yet.....it seems people think burg is the game where everyone will gain respect.....im here to tell you that anyone who thinks burg has too much speed and a better running game hasnt watched minford play.....this WILL be a barn burner but minford will come out on top 17 - 14

This century hasn't been good to them either. If my memory serves me correct, they have played each other 9 times, with Burg going 6-3 in those 9 games. In thos 9 games Burg has scored 223 points for an avearage of 24.7/gm. Minford has scored 112 points for an average of 12.4 /gm.Burg has 2 shutouts and Minford has 2 shoutouts in the 9 games.
IMO, the only advantage Burg has going into this game is that it is at the Burg. These two teams probably are the closet to being the same then any other two teams around here. I don't see a blowout by either team and it could possibly come down to a last second FG.
Re: Game of the Week 7: Minford (6-0) vs. Wheelersburg (6-0)

burgballa---I can see by your name your are just a youngster so I allow your ignorance. By the way --I wonder if you work at a t-shirt place or something? you seem to be so fixated with what people wear. I see --you are into fashion not football. perhaps you meant to get onto the cheerleading thread not this one. As far as shirts go Minford plays all 3 orange and black teams in a row every year. there are shirts about orange and black but your arrogance is in thinking you have the only orange and black team around. As far as football goes, Minford has changed--for GOOD. New coaching, thinking, preparation, community support. I you don't believe it--fine--watch it Friday. I am not predicting a win but a change. I can tell you this is not the biggest game ever. It is one we want to win on our way to the playoffs. See, I agree that a few years back Minford would have settled for just beating Burg in a season---no more. We have to beat burg and turn around and face West and finish our season strong for the post season. As far as us being just "another team" to you this year--great--we appreciate the underestimation. We'll keep your post hung up this week for added inspiration--thanks.

I think that these teams mirror each other quite a bit, I have seen both of these teams play and I was stunned at how each and every position is evenly matched...I could see this game going to OT, and I could also see a rematch in the playoffs a very real possibility. ![Cool 8)](./images/smilies/icon_cool.gif)

I agree. Could be just like in 2000, when they met early in the season and then in wk 1 of the playoffs. The winner of this game will take over the top spot in the region, with the loser more than likely needing to win out to make it. After this game, Burg will have NW at home and then two tough games on the road in Waverly and West. Minford will have West, NW and Valley left on the schedule. The sched definetley favors the Falcons.
This could also end up being a 3 team championship with West, Minford and the Burg. Lot of scenarios there that could possibly happen.

How do people not kind've find the different perceptions of this game funny?
Burg fans: Big game, only because Minford is 6-0 and we want to win another championship.
Minford fans: This is the biggest game ever. This is our biggest rivalry, we are huge rivals and we are going to beat them. As a matter of fact, we will make specials shirts for this game just for the 'Burg.
Could you imagine if the Burg made a shirt for a game like Minford? Minford sits here and calls us a rivalry, and they have beaten us 4 times in almost 30 years. There is no rivalry. The main reason this is a huge game isn't because of a rivalry, but because Minford is actually good for a change this year.
Minford fans, get over it. You are just another team to us, yet you act like it's the superbowl every time you beat us. Grow up and treat this like the Burg does, just another game, and a big game if both teams are undefeated like they are this year.
I hope for a good game, and I don't know who will win. I think Minford seems better on paper, but most SOC teams end up failing to live up to potential when they play the Burg, probably because of the hype they put on the game.
It just makes me sick that all these teams treat every time they play the Burg as a huge deal and make a fool of themselves by making special t-shirts for a specific team year in and year out when most of them aren't even remotely our biggest rivals, or even rivals at all(If we more than double your win total in the history of the series, I doubt we think of you as huge rivals. Focus more on winning and improving your team overall and less about just beating the Burg, instead of making yourselves look foolish by pulling these antics every single year vs the Burg).
This is the typical reaction from a burg fan who shows no respect for fans and community spirit or other teams. When you think you have no equal or rival in your schedule and everyone is second class to your team.

Agreed. This week, BURG is the biggest game of the year for Minford. Next week, WEST is the biggest game of the year for Minford. You get my point.
Minford rolls in this one:
Minford 35
Burg 14

Re: Game of the Week 7: Minford (6-0) vs. Wheelersburg (6-0)
IMO I do not look for this game to be a high scoring affair. I feel it will be alot like the Burg/Ironton game as far as the score goes. Provided there are not alot of cruical turnovers I don't see either team scoring more than 3 TDs.
Burg and Minford are pretty evenly matched teams IMO. Field position, turnovers and special teams are huge factors in this one.
My first chance to see Minford watching the Minford/Waverly game and it appears that Waverly moved the ball pretty well just too many turnovers. Minford backfield speed shows up on the outside runs as the OL opened up huge holes. DB speed is also evident as they do a good job at closing out on the receivers after the catch.
I'll have to wait to post my prediction until I have more time to think on this game.

Who said we didn't rivals???? I don't consider Minford a rival...I always considered P-town and West rivals.

I'm pretty sure they are not from the Burg. The majority of the people picking big blowouts by either team have no ties to either school, so they are doing just to stir up some crap.
If any poster from Burg or Minford thinks this is going to be a blowout then they aren't true fans of the game.
This has them makings to be one of the better games eever played on this field. This years Ironton game will be hard to top, but will have to judge after the game is over.
Good luck Pirates. Time to take another step towards SOC championship #28.
Re: Game of the Week 7: Minford (6-0) vs. Wheelersburg (6-0)
Turnovers, feild position, drive killing penaltys or penaltys that keep drives going, momentum swinging big plays will decide the game, just like they do in every game between 2 pretty evenly matched teams. Both teams have good D's but teams have been able to move the ball on both of them but teams have either stalled in the redzone or turned the ball over. I watched the Minford-waverly game on the net and I was impressd with minfords offense. I think the burgs D is a lot faster than waverly's. It didn't look like waverly's inside guys flowed very well when the play went outside, minfords backs were always able to cut it up feild. One of the fastest kids on the feild if not the fastest will be at D-tackle for the burg, the other 2 Dlinemen aren't to shabby speed wise either, they will chase you down. If the burgs running game stalls they might need to use their size at wr 6'5", 6'3", both are good receivers with good hands. Should be a dandy.

No dog in this fight, but having seen both squads play.....I can't see Minford winning this game.
