We may have big heads but we're not so vain as to have to put a rug on top of them.

Great win Pirates. Played hard against a very fast VASJ team. QB threw a nice ball, just got wore down and took some good hits in the 2nd half. No. 7 came in late and ran the ball really hard for VASJ. Burgstarted this game on the right track as Schank got his second kick return for a TD in as many weeks.

Anyone know how Holbrook and Bendolph are doing?

Congrats on the win, but watch the big heads. Burg isn't all that great. VASJ won't make the playoffs. You might, but outside of SEO, not going much of anywhere.

They might not make the playoffs because of their tough shedule but they are a pretty good football team. The burg beat them by basically the same score as Div 2 Lake Cath who is now 4-0 on the season.

For not seeing this type passing attack very often, it took Burg a few qtrs to really start pickin them off and playing good man or zone when required. Linebackers have to do a better job of getting back into their pass zone or read for the guy coming into middle zone as receiver, quicker. They did an excellent job in 4th because you could tell QB had noone to throw to. And for us to shutdown the run, rush only 3 or 4 guys and still get to the qb told the tale. Burg learned alot from this game. Paladin is right on one thing, the MAC is mainly spread, NE teams are gettin that way, and we just made leaps an bounds in determining how to defend it come playoff time. If we get there!!

VASJ QB was good. Patience in the pocket and a hard runner. I was impressed by this kid. Good skilled players but not very disciplined and seemed to not play every down. I thought they lost their legs in the 4th. I doubt we see a better passing team or QB this season.

Good test of Burg's pass defense. WOW... I was impressed by Schank. He has come a long way since last season as he was good then. He is a beast and ran through numerous tackles. A kid that is a game changer. Craigmiles also has improved. Seems to be running hard and north to south more as he should.

Good, solid win for Burg.

Any news on Holbrook? I think Bendolph was ankle sprain.

I seen one of the finest catches by a receiver I have ever seen in high school football, the kid from St Joe. went airborn, and streched as far as he could to catch a pass on his finger tips as he landed on the ground...great ,great catch.

this was only a 10 point game with minutes left in the 4th, St Joe,had theor chances to climb right back into the game, but Burg defense stepped up,and a couple mistakes from st Joe stopped it,

plus, if you take away the interception for TD,and a fumble that was returned inside the 10 in the first period the game would have been closer...not to mention giving up the kickoff in the opening period in 12 seconds :122246 :122246

I was wondering who they was taking out on the stretcher over there, hope he is OK.

I was very impressed with the SJ QB. His receivers gave up on their routes too soon though. 'Burg owned the 1st qtr, SJ the 2nd and 3rd and 'Burg the 4th, especially the defense. Good game, good win for the Pirates. And yes, that was an incredible catch!!
Still confused on the intentional grounding call tho. He was 10 yards out of the pocket when he threw it away.
A lot of big plays were negated by penalties, on both sides of the ball. In the end it all evened out.
Paladin, How many VASJ games have you attended to support your worthless opinion? That's what I thought.

That was Chase Holbrook who was hurt. Hopefully it was precautionary and both he and Andrew Bendolph get back soon.

The five turnovers helped a lot, but, certainly, Wheelersburg had a hand in the turnovers. The first interception was simply a bad pass/route but the second was tipped at the line of scrimmage and the third and fourth were due to defensive pressure as the quarterback was hit or nearly hit as he threw. The fumble was caused by a hard hit in the secondary.

Wheelersburg's offense had 24 points (to 21 by VASJ), 10 of those points came after turnovers. There were 14 points scored by the defense and 7 scored by special teams.

Against Portsmouth, Wheelersburg had 14 points after turnovers and 7 from special teams and 7 set up by special teams.

Against South Point, 14 points were set up by special teams play.

It is one thing that I like about this team. Other than the blocked punt against Ironton and one long drive that stalled in the third quarter at VASJ, they have been taking advantage of their opportunities--that and they start well and they get better the longer the game goes on.

Great win Pirates!

Heard Bendolphs's injury was just a minor ankle sprain. He could take this whole week off if he needs to because this Friday's game will be a blowout. Shouldn't risk anything in a game like that.

Frank-n-beans, that rule does not exist in the NFHS rulebook, which the high school level uses. That out of the pocket rule is an NFL rule and possibly an NCAA but I'm not sure. Hope that helps.

Hey Paladin your team doesn't even play the Burg so why don't you go back to the Ironton and Logan thread with your bs and stop putting other teams down.

Good news on Holbrook and hopefully Bendolph's is just a sprain. If they can't play looks like we had ample backup for them.

After this week, the easy games are done. Once you get into league play it becomes a dogfight.

I wonder what Paladin's reason for bashing the Burg kids is. Hmmmm....... :122247

VASJ was a very good team. They had very quick, tall receivers, a QB with a nice arm and a very elusive little RB. I do think they could have been a little more consistent in playing hard every down but other than that I was impressed with them. Regardless of record I thought they were a quality opponent.

Some of the Burg kids looked slow too. There is a bug goin around. Heard some of them had it. Lang for 1 I heard. Sorry to hear that about the two players. Shame for Holbrook. Good player. Whitley will have to fill in and #23 did a good job when he got some playing time under his belt. I think Burg will be ok!
