Re: Week 1- Gallia Academy @ Athens
Perfectly said above...
Athens came out and looked as if they did not even want to play in the 1st half...
Galia was more aggressive and capitalized on some big plays to get out (20-0) at half...
The coaches of Athens went in and made the changes that needed to be made and Athens stormed back to make it (21-29) in the 4th quarter and had a chance to tie it late but #7 of Galia Academy is a player and simply made some huge plays, none bigger then his interception of Trey Harris on what looked to be a nice pass to Ian Dixon on the sideline...
Galia is much improved, so kudos to them. Athens will learn a lot from this game and will carry their positives from the 2nd half into their matchup with Coal Grove next Friday Night...
D Larusso-- your comment on Athens, they have a great shot at making the play-offs this year. If they win out, their schedule is nothing like it was last year and they would have received good points for wins over Warren, Chilicothe, Parkersburg-South, Vinton County and always Nelsonville because they will have a good record....
Its only week one so play-off talk is a little crazy...The Athens Brass have made great strides by getting a great schedule this year. Let the Bulldogs just regroup and focus on beating Coal Grove...

Not sure how many adjustments were made. Looked like the same play calls from first half and second. Gallia D just didn't play quite as well in 3rd quarter, where the officiating heavily favored Athens. I disagree with those who say Athens should have stayed in the old league. I think Athens found out how smart of a move it really was to move to the TVC last night as they lost to a lower level SEOAL team. Athens is where they should be. Big difference when you are playing D2 and D3 teams week in and week out. Looks like the TVC Ohio will come down to week 10 in Buchtel. Good luck to both teams.
Re: Week 1- Gallia Academy @ Athens
There is rumors going around that Gallipolis has ask to be in the TVC and River Valley. Also talk of going to 3 divisions in the league. This would just put Athens back into games with Gallia, Nelsonville and other larger teams that may move into the TVC like Warren, Jackson and such. Good second half by the Dogs.
Did it look to anyone else that the officiating crew was struggling a little?

I would be shocked :122246 if Gallia Academy has asked to join the TVC.athens78 wrote:There is rumors going around that Gallipolis has ask to be in the TVC and River Valley. And yes, I thought the officials struggled just a bit. First game though....
Re: Week 1- Gallia Academy @ Athens
Yes the officials struggled.
SEOP posters always get it right and expect the same of the officials!
The Athens coach did a great job of finding something his offense could execute against Gallia's defense. Great half time adjustments.
GO BLUE!!!!

Re: Week 1- Gallia Academy @ Athens
Gallia has made impressive strides from last season. Great testimony to Coach Eddy and his staff. The defensive line was determined to not allow Athens to run between the tackles, and they succeeded. #7 had an outstanding game, and perhaps a game saving (or game sealing) interception (which was one of the most athletic catches you will see in high school) at the 50 yard line in the last 3 minutes of the game.
I think Athens will be just fine. The poise and want-to the boys displayed in the second half was encouraging. Coach Adams and staff obviously found a way for the team to get back into the game, they motivated the players, and the players responded. Even with a loss, that was a little light shed on more positive things to come.
There are a lot of talented athletes wearing the green and gold. And I suspect they will get better and better every week.

I don't see Gallia leaving the SEOAL unless they don't have any other options. Meaning the SEOAL no longer exists.
It's funny how the TVC wants to basically start up a new SEOAL minus Logan in a third division safely away from the other TVC schools. A new division with teams that ran from the SEOAL i.e. Athens and Meigs. It's also funny how Gallia, Jackson, Warren, and Athens all use to play in the same league. Three of the aforementioned still do. I don't see why they need a new affiliation just to play the same games. Is Logan that scary? I also think someone might want to check with Vinton County and Meigs football teams to see if they are ok with being in a league with Gallia, Jackson, Warren, and Athens before anyone gets any bright ideas. :122245
These so called moves being made are all about cleaning up the mess the TVC made by letting Athens in the conference in my opinion. Athens has reeked havoc on the TVC ever since they joined, and that's what happens when a division 2 school plays in a predominantly division 4 and 5 school conference.
Re: Week 1- Gallia Academy @ Athens
And nobody would know better than Logan what happens when a school is much bigger than the other schools in their league.

I thought the Athens coach made great adjustments offensively throughout the whole game. It was obvious that the game plan was to run between the tackles. When that didn't work, he just kept trying different things until he found something that worked. In the second half, he got his best athletes in one on one situations and they made some great plays.
I was glad to see that my thoughts on the game were correct. Gallia's lines, both O and D, were a big factor in the game. Offensively, the tough running or Moore and Young, combined with the speed of Wilson made for a balanced attack and kept Athens off-balance enough that we moved the ball effectively the whole game. Defensively, we were able to shut down the inside run and were able to make just enough plays to keep Athens from making a comeback.
Going forward:
Offensively, do more of the same. Balanced attack, wear teams down with the strong O-line, quick strikes to speed players as teams load the box.
Defensively, continue to shut down the run. Tighten up pass coverage. Work with D-Ends and OLBs for outside contain and getting a pass rush.
