OVC Championship: Coal Grove @ Chesapeake
Re: OVC Championship: Coal Grove @ Chesapeake
Whole point is that if you get into a close game with a lesser team, you potentially leave yourself at the mercy of human refs to make dumb calls. CG had 7 penalties, Peake had 7 penalties. The stat that was important: CG 32 rushes, 100 yards. Chesapeake: 49 rushes, 242 yards. CG was dominated up front. CG lost that game. They were outplayed. The deserved to lose. If Peake hadn't given them a fumble in the red zone, they wouldn't have retaken the lead at all. Hopefully, the players let it all sink in, get mad about it, and prove they belong in the playoffs this Saturday. Otherwise, the season will come to a very unpleasant end Saturday night.
Re: OVC Championship: Coal Grove @ Chesapeake
the west virginia officials strike again, keep getting crews from river cities and that's what happens.
Re: OVC Championship: Coal Grove @ Chesapeake
RJ bunch of numbers,
Point is you have now complained about the same thing several times and not contributed to the thread aside from complaining. Your own fan said you got outplayed, move on. Chesapeake won, CG lost, none of your biotching is ever going to change that. I was not at the game so I have no comment on what happened, but I read how great this CG team was by you and many other posters on several different threads. You got beat last year in the playoffs, you will probably get beat again this season, maybe try upgrading your out of conference schd and see how good you really are. I tried telling people from my own community that schd has alot to do with how well you play down the stretch. Chesapeake saw 4-5 teams this season better then CG, you saw one and they smashed you. UPGRADE.
See now you made me start turning what should be a celebration into a negative conversation.
Anyways, good luck next week, you will def need it.

Re: OVC Championship: Coal Grove @ Chesapeake
to peake,
So upgrade our schedule to look like yours and be sitting home on week 11, or play the type of schedule we have and be playing on week 11, I will always take the latter. The fact is our non-conf schedule really has nothing to do with how we played in this game. I believe our boys came out playing over their heads thinking that the Panthers would just lay down, now the officiating wasn't the greatest but we still should have played better than what we did, and also I would like to point out the classlessness of some of the high school age fans in the parking lot after the game, and give a word of warning for future games, if you flaunt and gloat in front of the losing team (and this could be any team), there is a good chance some of those players will confront you after the game, just wanted to let it be known that the peake fans didn't show much class in winning as well.

Re: OVC Championship: Coal Grove @ Chesapeake
Yeah, I agree with 2trap. Peake's big, tough schedule didn't make them play any better when they almost lost to a bad RH team in the first game of the conference slate. That attitude is the very reason the OVC is a joke. "Well, it don't matter if we lose to other teams our size in the area as long as we win our mediocre, miniscule OVC." Until the area programs start thinking outside the county, they will continue to be mediocre. No one looks at Chesapeake's non-conference schedule and Ooohs or ahs about how brave they are. The proper response would be, "Wow, they went 0-5 against good competition that's their size - they must not be very good at all this year."

to peake,

I didn't say play Chesapeake's schd, but I would upgrade a little more if I were coach. I wouldn't wish that schd upon anyone. I played 1998-02, each year we opened up with Portsmouth, Wayne, and SV each of which were playoff teams. This isn't anything new. We started out 0-2 twice only to go 8-2.
"The fact is our non-conf schedule really has nothing to do with how we played in this game."
I believe it helped lead you fans to the conclusion you were better then you really are. When you play no one, you will look like world beaters.
"I believe our boys came out playing over their heads thinking that the Panthers would just lay down,"
What would make you or should I say them think that. This is total BS. Chesapeake over the first 5 games despite playing 4 or 5 playoff teams didn't lay down in any of these games. Did CG not get the memo Chesapeake was on a 4 game win streak and was getting better every game? They not get the memo they dropped 40+ on SP the game before and their confidence was sky high? Poor excuse!
"now the officiating wasn't the greatest but we still should have played better than what we did,"
Who cares?!!! Great teams overcome bad calls.
"and also I would like to point out the classlessness of some of the high school age fans in the parking lot after the game,"
Really you want to point out high school kids behavior because mixed amongst the good kids are a few bad apples? Really? Do you realize what HS kids act like? Of course they are going to say things and lada lada. They are high school kids. Are you a high school kid, because you are sounding like one.
"and give a word of warning for future games,"
What you going to do big bad man? You going to beat someone up? Who is acting like a high school kid now? Word of warning, come on act like an adult.
"if you flaunt and gloat in front of the losing team (and this could be any team), there is a good chance some of those players will confront you after the game"
Really?!?! Well thank you for the warning I will go ahead and contact the OHSAA and let them know that the CG players are going to be beating up anyone that says something after the lose to Oak Hill. The CG players should probably get their tails back on the bus and back to CG to break down film and see where things went wrong instead of worrying about some students who said they suck. Are you really an adult? DId you jsut graduate? You sound like you have to be 15 or something.
"just wanted to let it be known that the peake fans didn't show much class in winning as well."
So because they beat you they are unclassy now? I thought it was just the HS students, make up your mind. Jesus, get a grip and move on.
Fuzz you really are making this far too easy. You were the one that questioned the Chesapeake dynasty because according to you the OVC was so bad it didn't matter. It was all about records to you when CG was awful, but now because the tides have turned it is not. Hmmmm.
"Peake's big, tough schedule didn't make them play any better when they almost lost to a bad RH team in the first game of the conference slate. That attitude is the very reason the OVC is a joke."
No one should play 6 playoff teams in a season unless you are Ironton and can actually be successful doing it. Remember that schd are made years in advance and no one knows how team A is going to be 3-4 years down the road. Would Chesapeake really be better off going back to playing Green on a regular basis? Remember Chesapeake split the series with Oak Hill and LV just a few short years ago, and we used to smack PW around as well. CHesapeake was up 21-0 on RH and let them come back, and that is on them, so. It did help them beat you, so your point is moot. What exactly makes the conference a joke? Because Chesapeake played a tough schd it makes the conference a joke? How about the self professing power of the conference go out and beat those teams that Chesapeake can't. Chesapeake played LV much tougher if I am not mistaken. You can't make the point that the conference is a joke because other teams are getting beat playoff teams. The conference is a joke because when you venture out of it you get smacked in the mouth by other playoff teams, and then you turn around and talk about how good you are. That is the real joke.
"Until the area programs start thinking outside the county, they will continue to be mediocre. No one looks at Chesapeake's non-conference schedule and Ooohs or ahs about how brave they are. I am not sure where you are going with that first comment. If people look at that schd and don't think they are brave to play a schd like that, they know nothing about football. Was it the smartest thing to do, probably not, but you are strengthening my point. BTW, Portsmouth West is D4 and Minford is on the line going to D4. Really, schools their size is your key to your very weak point. You are the same size school, oh you are going to pull the we are the smallest school in the OVC card. HA! We are the second smallest and it doesn't even matter. Those first 5 teams were all playoff teams even if one didn't make it. If someone says well you are 0-5 v 5 playoff teams and you are not very good, well what do you think they are saying about CG right now? Chesapeake at the moemnt is not professing to be a powerhouse, but CG goes around flashing the title and then when it comes time to beat someone with a pulse, well its not the same story. Oh, no, that's right, it's the refs fault. It always is. My suggestion to you and your buddy is try and be a little more objective and quit tooting your horn every chance you get. Stop making excuses and if you are the best, then act like it and when you get beat lose with class and chalk it up to you lost to a better team on that night.

Re: OVC Championship: Coal Grove @ Chesapeake
Wow, I bet that game was exciting! I knew Coal Grove lost quite a bit of talent from last year and I did predict a close game. Who won the OVC title last year, Chesapeake?
Re: OVC Championship: Coal Grove @ Chesapeake
Peake, what dynasty was I questioning? If you're refering to the early part of last decade, I'm not questioning what panthers accomplished. Their feat wasn't just in the OVC. Those weren't 5-5 teams who only beat OVC teams. They were playoff teams that had college talent on them a lot of the time. When have I ever talked about how good CG was? I've said on several threads this season that CG is down compared to last year. I think Ive been very objective with you. No one who sat through the dismal CG/Valley game could even dare to claim CG was anywhere near as good as last year. I thought CG was the best team in this year's dreadful OVC - dreadful in that it is the worst conference in the area exept for the TVC Hocking this year. Relative to similarly-size programs (D4 and D5) in the area, the OVC is bad - real bad. No, I don't think Chesapeake should water it's schedule down very much. Next year, they could very well beat Oak Hill and Valley. My only point is that it's useless to boast about playing a tough non-conference schedule when you get blown out by most of the teams on it. I think The Panthers will be even better next year - maybe playoff caliber. No one in this room is flashing any titles or anything if the sort. I congratulated the panthers on a victory they earned. If you
want, next year if they win the OVC again, I'll just get in my truck, put in Queen's greatest hits, roll down the windows, and blast "We Are the Champions" in the parking lot because I guess that's the only way a fan of the losing team can prove he's "objective" or has "class".

Re: OVC Championship: Coal Grove @ Chesapeake
I have heard you point out that for a good part of the Panthers success the OVC teams were bad, blah blah. You are pretty objective and most of the comment was not aimed at you. I am more trying to make the point that if Chesapeake plays 3 playoff teams instead of 6 this season they were probably a 6-4, 7-3 type of team. I remember when we used to play Wayne week number 2 after lossing to Portsmouth and Tommy Harmon would say we would be 0-1 every year too if we played their schd. Anyways, good luck this week.
Re: OVC Championship: Coal Grove @ Chesapeake
cg staff must have been extremely outcoached!! no way should they lose to anyone in this conference this year.......... looks like a one and done again in the playoffs again
Re: OVC Championship: Coal Grove @ Chesapeake
TL, there's no doubt Davis knows a lot about what CG does. He's coached against them for over 20 years and I know for a fact that he hates losing to them - hates it. That being said, CG didn't bring their normal gameplan. I'm guessing #40 was either hurt coming into the game or during it and was not as big a part of the offense that he's been during the rest of the conference slate. The power running game is what sets up CG's newfangled Fairland-esque passing attack. The 2nd half, CG put their inside running game in the hands of a smaller, speedier back. This failed except for the short drive in the red zone after the Peake fumble.
Re: OVC Championship: Coal Grove @ Chesapeake
Peake, I know the comments you are refering to and I will still stand by them. I've posted the conference records of those teams during those years. They speak for themselves. Coal Grove in particular went like 2 years without winning a conference game period. But you also had the year in 03 that three different teams in the OVC made the playoffs and the year in 01 when SP won the title. Peake would start 0-2 every year against Portsmouth who had some good years and not so good years during this time and Wayne who is almost always really good by WV standards. They usually lost in the first round of the playoffs, just like CG did last year and probably will this year. The exception being the 02 year when they made the regional finals. The whole point is that it doesn't really matter who you schedule or how good they are. Usually, if you're talented and have Good coaching you'll do what you supposed to and if you don't have the talent you'll be exposed. The problem I see with OVC teams is not with talent, but with the unwillingness to try to be competitive with area teams. They don't care about playoffs, they just want to win the OVC.
Re: OVC Championship: Coal Grove @ Chesapeake
CG also was missing their big back..he is one of their best runners, blockers and linebackers..on the sidelines the whole game..didnt dress..that's why they were running smaller back up the middle. Defintely wasn't their normal game and i think it would have been a different outcome but hey the grove is in the playoffs and have a game in week 11..go hornets!!!fuzzhead wrote:TL, there's no doubt Davis knows a lot about what CG does. Big back? #40 is their biggest back. He only got 9 carries for 33 yards. Sure, not having the backup hurt though, especially on defense.

Re: OVC Championship: Coal Grove @ Chesapeake
#40 should have had 20 carries in this game no doubt the last game i remember not using him that much was the valley game. i dont care if the stop him 9 times he definetly tightens the deffence up for oposing teams then let boo outside or pass but 40 has to get the ball make them think he is comming again.

I think he is taller but weight probably not the heaviest..so my bad..but he makes a difference all the same.. I am just trying to point out that it could have been a different game and I agree with hornet8088 that the only game that the #40 didn't get many carries was the valley and also resulted in a loss so hopefully they will use #40 and brush up on our defense against the pass..It has been weak all yr.

Re: OVC Championship: Coal Grove @ Chesapeake
He is not the tallest but, he is the biggest and has more heart than anyone on the team. And guess who took the loss personsally. Never shed a tear but wondered all night what he could have done differently to change the out come. Didn't blame the Ref's, the coaches. or his fellow team mates but blamed himself.
He has no control over when he plays or even if he plays, he does what the coaches ask him to do, and I mean WHATEVER they ask him to do. He played the whole 2nd half hurt but, never asked to come off the field, he wants to do whatever he has to do to WIN!
He will give everything he has Saturday at Oak Hill, I hope the rest of the team does the same. This is their chance for redemption, not just from Chesapeake but also from all the references to last year's CG team. Just as much talent on this year's team, I think more, and not half the attitude promblems. GO HORNETS!!!!!
