Yeah, the trips up 93 to Logan and down 93 to Ironton are pretty rough, plus we have to go to Warren. No more Marietta though, which is a good thing.

Yeah who is going to fill in over the years now that there's no more marietta?
Re: 2011 Jackson ironmen
The replacement for Marietta this season is St. Charles.
The next year, St. Charles and Ironton are off the schedule. They will be replaced by Wheelersburg and Athens. Not sure how long those contracts are.
For now, the SEOAL has Jackson, Logan, GAHS, Portsmouth, Chillicothe, and Warren. Hopefully the league stays together, in some form, for many years to come.

Re: 2011 Jackson ironmen
Were dropping ironton that sucks those are usually good games and I love watching Jackson play ironto but it is what it is.
Re: 2011 Jackson ironmen
Adding St. Charles is definitely a step in the right direction, a step that many of the teams in Seo (including my senators) need to make. I know Portsmouth had a series with them in 03-04 (P-town was 1-1)...Ironmannut07 wrote:That's what I like to hear I would really want Jackson to start playing tougher non conference games I know some years we might take a beating but when we play weak teams an we make it to the playoffs we take a beating playing tougher teams might help get us ready for the playoff caliber teams.GAHS83 wrote:St. Charles is a Catholic school in Columbus. They play a tough schedule usually including Watterson and Desales who are both perennial powerhouse teams in the Catholic league in Columbus. They're generally much better than their record indicates. It will be one of the tougher games on your schedule.
Sad to see Jackson take a step back, schedule-wise in 2012...Burg will be a good matchup, but they are only a d5 and even though Athens is a d3, they are not the type of competition Jackson will face in the playoffsironman02 wrote:The replacement for Marietta this season is St. Charles.

Personally, I think the Wheelersburg game is fine. Yeah, they're D5, but they're also one of the best programs in SE Ohio, regardless of division. I agree about the Athens game though. It makes sense size-wise, but it doesn't really help that much from a competition standpoint. Athens has been getting better though, so maybe they'll continue that improvement.

I said before Jackson is going to get Burg when they are in a down cycle, which is good for Jackson.

Re: 2011 Jackson ironmen
I have no idea if Jackson is dropping Ironton, Ironton is dropping Jackson, or if it's just a mutual agreement. Whatever the case may be, scheduling Wheelersburg is not a bad idea. If they're going into a down cycle, it certainly won't last long.
Re: 2011 Jackson ironmen
Jackson v Wheelersburg is a lose lose for the Ironmen. It's worse than the Wellston game. If they win they get less points because of how small Wheelersburg is, and if they lose then they are a big DIII school getting beat by a little DV. They don't play next year, but in a hypothetical situation, next year Jackson SHOULD be pretty good, Wheelersburg may have a down year, Jackson wins, goes on the road week 11, where as they play a larger school they have a shot at home field. Last year they went 9-1 playing a schedule with larger schools and still finished 5th in the region. Days of scheduling "good games" are gone. Schedule for playoff point potential.
BTW the "down years" for Burg are a myth. Burg will rebound from graduation losses and have a group of young kids coming that have the potential for some big things for the Pirates. Jackson should have left them on the scrimmage schedule.

Re: 2011 Jackson ironmen
I disagree. Wheelersburg is almost always a playoff team. They win 7, 8, or more games every season, which means that despite being a D5 school, they generate plenty of computer points if you can beat them. Level 1 points aren't that big of a deal. Level 2 points are the key, and that's an area where Wheelersburg can definitely help a team get into the playoffs.
In reality, this IS a game that's being scheduled for playoff point potential. You get to play a team who is always good, will provide computer points if you beat them, and will challenge you even though they're a smaller school. St. Charles isn't going to want to play Jackson for an extended period of time, so this is a game that will create similar playoff points, while also staying local.
I'm completely in favor of Jackson improving its overall non-conference schedule. I've said for years that Wellston and Vinton County are games that don't really benefit Jackson. Most years, Jackson wins those games and gets minimal computer points. I guess what I'm trying to say is this. There are definitely improvements that can be made to Jackson's schedule, but the Wheelersburg game is certainly not a step in the wrong direction, at least in my opinion.

Athens could be a good addition for playoff points as well playing in the TVC.
Re: 2011 Jackson ironmen
Some times when a team is loaded with a lot of excellent players like Jackson is this year can create some issues within team its self. An example of this is the Pro Basketball Team Miami Heat. We all know about how the super stars got together and wanted to play for the same team. They haven't done as well as they expected. Granted they are a good team, but they are not blowing out all the teams they play like a lot of people thought they would. Not saying the Ironmen team is like them. They are just High School kids who are having fun
I am in no way slamming the Jackson Ironmen in any way or any of the players. All I am trying to say is that they have all kinds of talent and I hope they have a great season. But after reading some of the comments on here, some should remain silent about how dominate they will be. It remains to be seen how well this team meshes together. Injuries are another factor that no one can fore see. I wish for no injuries for any team. The old saying come to mind, " Could have should have, would have". The talent is there, great Coaching staff, still things can go wrong. Just keeping things in perspective.
Good Luck to the Jackson Ironmen all all the players

I agree with Ironman02. Wheelersburg is a good team to play. If your beating the Burg year in year out then you have a good football program. Good Luck to the Jackson Ironmen. Have Fun, Play Hard, and WIN
Re: 2011 Jackson ironmen
Beating Wheelersburg will never be just a "oh yeah, we beat Wheelersburg too"
Beating Wheelersburg will always be a very good win.

I can't imagine Ironton dropping Jackson with us being Independent, so I would tend to think it was Jackson dropping Ironton for some reason.ironman02 wrote:I have no idea if Jackson is dropping Ironton, Ironton is dropping Jackson, or if it's just a mutual agreement. Well at least we get on last trip to the tank would be interesting hopefully we get the win but either way it should be a great game
Re: 2011 Jackson ironmen
The departure of Marietta left many of the SEOAL schools looking for replacement games late in the season. However, starting in 2012, Weeks 6-10 will once again all be SEOAL games. Jackson and Ironton have been playing in Week 7 recently, so maybe it's possible that there just wasn't a way to fit the game into either, or both, team's schedules. I honestly don't know because I'm not sure what open dates each team had for that season, but I wouldn't assume that Jackson just dropped Ironton. They've played every season since 2005, with Jackson winning in 2005 and 2010, and taking the Tigers to OT in 2007.
