I don't believe "Chieftains" is a derogatory term, but when people referred to our home field as the "reservation" that's pretty bad IMHO.

I mean I guess it's not bad if you want to further the perception of ignorance and ethnic intolerance associated with many regions of southern ohio. Having the team name "Chieftains" makes no negative connotation or association necessarily, but calling a football field where high school kids go to play a game "the reservation" is disgusting on so many levels because of the overall lack of respect and dignity for someone else's culture and heritage.

No it's still disgusting....the displacement and violence acted out against native americans is estimated to be the largest genocide in human history. Reservations came about from this genocide and to reference them with a high football field is classless. The use of the term is offensive whether or not our team is referred to as the "chieftains" or the "indian rapers" as you suggest. Ignorance isn't a mutually exclusive concept, because you believe we could be in fact be MORE offensive doesn't mean that, to a degree, some of the terms we use aren't already.

Do you get it? Don't sit here and accuse us of not understanding when you yourself also have no idea what these people have been through. None of us do.

What I do know is that people today are overusing this "offensive" thing...sure redskins is offensive but chieftains...these people need to get a life...of all the things they could be doing they decide to get together and decide that the use of the name "chieftains" is offensive. Come on people...seriously get over it.

The U.S. is filled with racism here and there...just like everywhere else...if you don't think you have a little bit of racism in you then guess again...people looked down on the Japanese during WWII just like MANY looked down upon Middle Easterns following the Gulf War and 9/11.

Racism...It's called freedom of speech people...the U.S. was basically founded upon it in a way...Many founding fathers owned slaves(despite saying that "all men are created equal") and the Constitution never mentions slavery until the 13th Amendment in 1865 and I believe you could still own a slave it was a punishment for a crime...Racism...It doesn't matter how bad you think it is you just have to move on and get over it. If you dont like it then just dont listen. Most of us do not like racism but those who enjoy putting down others do have the same rights as the rest of us...kinda sad though.

Women dealt with the same things throughout history too...times change people...racism will only continue to exist until we stop dwelling on the negative aspects of our past.

I am not even from Logan...in fact I couldn't tell you how to get to Logan...and you are the one bringing up the Trail of Tears and Auschwitz.

i grow up in logan, i played for logan, i graduated from logan, i live in logan, my kids have graduated from and go to school at the schools in logan, most of my family lives in logan, i have used "the reservation" as my home on this web site for 3 yrs now and nobody has said a word. the word "reservation" is not disgusting. its not the word but, what the word is used with. i and (the rest of us i'm sure) are using the word proudly!! reservations are one of the closest net communities you can find. and i feel logan in the same when it comes to our footballs team. so, am i wrong for using the word?? not once have i/we thought of the word "reservation" as a displacement and violence word. rather we have used it as a word of pride and closeness for our community. we are proud of CHIEF LOGAN and proud that his ppl live here.

a word is only offensive if you make the word offensive or like some ppl put it of there personal agenda of thing to do. most times those ppl have no real link with what was offensive in the 1st place. they just want to make in un-pc for they're own personal gain. ie. al and tipper gore.

What do I have to gain by saying I believe using the "reservation" is wrong? Reservationd were not happy places for Native Americans. I never said anybody was racist. I agree, we should get back on topic. I have an OPINION (what a horrible word) that using that term is not right and I will never do so. Now that it has been learned that this ids offensive to some, we should be more sensitive with our use of it.
Have you ever thought that many Native Americans do not want you to "honor" them?
