Thank goodness there is not a track , there is not a field anywhere worth a dime that has a track around it. Good job PHS.

I asked that a few pages back and was told there was enough. It sure looks like we may need some padding on it.
Overall this complex (the football part anyway) has turned out much better then I ever expected. After seeing the field house with the giant locker room, training room, coach’s office with separate restroom, and the separate film room, it is clear this is the elite facility in all of southern Ohio.
I do however wonder how much money will be left for softball, track, and tennis.

I was at that Marshall game. Terrible injury and there is probably more room there than at the Portsmouth Stadium. That wall there isn't a good idea. Lawsuit in the waiting.
Looks like the West backs will have to start slowing down around the 10 so as not to harm the pretty wall.
You know, Beep Beep there goes a Sider.

I bet you that place is going to be really loud especially after Ironton scores a touchdown! LOL! Looks really nice.

Re: Portsmouth Athletic Complex Pictures
Portsmouth needs a great facility, there isn't much pride left in the town. I drove through there this weekend and it has the feel of post Katrina New Orleans. It is so dilapidated and irreparable. A nice facility like this may restore some of that nostalgic pride.
They should take that rock from the river and make it like Howard's rock in Clemson, annoy the heck out of the people from South Shore and Greenup Co.

they will be putting the south end goal post up today, and the field turf starts going down on wednesday.
can't wait to se when it is finished, its going to be an awsome place to play, and watch football games.

I think it looks great, the wall is a bit close, but who cares!
if Im not mistaken, you have to establish 2 feet inside the endzone for a touchdown?, so wouldnt you have to be slowing down anyway?
and honestly how many times to you se high school kids run out of the back of the endzone?...honestly now?
because,I know they are not walls, but I have seen many with chain link fences just as close, with the steel poles at least 2 feet in the ground in concrete.
besides, the wall gives all the haters something to whine about
.
it could be a great home field advantage for the Trojans, they will pratcice there everyday, and can get the routes down to perfection, while the other teams will be "scared" to run the pas routes on that end
.
hope no one runs out of the south end, enzone, they might get mustard on their unis

Re: Portsmouth Athletic Complex Pictures
What I am concerned about with the north end zone is when a receiver catches the ball at the very back of the EZ and then is pushed by the defender in an attempt to dislodge the ball.......this happens quite often as seen on TV.........I think the wall does seem fairly close enough to raise concerns about this.........
As far as the overall look of Portsmouth, our city has been in economic downturn for the last 50 years.......it is one of the poorest cities in Ohio.......that's not an opinion, but a fact.......yes, there are eyesores in the community.......but that's to be expected to an extent with the socio-economic state of our city........
You just can't drive through Portsmouth on one day and point out the negatives about the city without pointing out the upgrades also........those who have lived here their whole lives would have to admit that there have been a lot of new buildings and projects that have been accomplished within the past decade........Shawnee State, SOMC, New Grant Bridge, the visible improvement of Scioto Trail, new Portsmouth City Schools.......and west of the Chillicothe St. viaduct.......a very nice movie theater in addition to several restaurants and a couple of other businesses.....and now our beautiful new athletic facilities........
One of the best things that has happened in Portsmouth has been the demolition of many vacant buildings which has eliminated many of the ugly spots throughout the city........there are still and always going to be some areas that don't look attractive, but unfortunately that's always going to be the case with cities of Portsmouth's size........
Portsmouth will never look like Beverly Hills..........

Don't forget to mention the murals.
The murals are beautiful.
They are well taken care of too.
