Re: Portsmouth vs Valley Week 1
Valley sounded pretty decent, gotta FOR SURE clean up the Penalties moving forward.
Re: Portsmouth vs Valley Week 1
Should be an interesting year in the SOC 2... heard from a really good source that watched both teams that Valley and Burg are VERY similar/even teams. Should be a great year of football in the SOC for sure.

Interesting..Valleys picked 4th by most in the league...difference is now, they dont fear teams...we'll see what the Indians do. I know there are a lot of kids ready to prove themselves.lineman7 wrote:Should be an interesting year in the SOC 2... heard from a really good source that watched both teams that Valley and Burg are VERY similar/even teams. Great win Indians!! This game is more evidence, to me at least, Portsmouth should be invited into the SOC II. I just hope they give ole Cliff another 5 year contract!
Re: Portsmouth vs Valley Week 1
Very good game tonight. Valley surprised me with how good they ran the ball. Anyone know the stats? They had way to many penalties but they are young and it's the first game so I guess that's expected. Arnett is a very good back. He is no Luke Keller but I think he might surpass his production running just because we seemed so one dimensional. The timeing of the passing game was off all night. We Will really need to get better at pass defense if we are going to challenge burg.

My score was off but I think I hit the nail on the head.Crab's brother wrote:There are a lot of questions that will be answered in this one Saturday. Valley has to replace a ton of talent starting with Yates and Keller. There are some very good skill players returning that have carried the ball before. Will Howard will do fine at quarterback. He is not going to be Blake Yates because there aren't very many that can be. The biggest issue for this years team will be depth and experience on the offensive line. Valley lost a lot of starts upfront from last year. The heat (forecast is 92 saturday) may really hurt the Indians. There are a few guys on the defensive and offensive lines that are going to be counted on to go both ways and if they can't do that Saturday it could cost Valley.
The thing that has me confident going into this weekend is the physical style of Valley. The past several years when I have seen Portsmouth they have seemed fairly athletic, but also very soft. I feel that Valley maybe able to have some success running the ball right at the Trojans and wear them down. I think Valley can control the LOS and the clock to keep Portsmouth's play makers on sidelines. Should be a good one into the 4th no matter what.
Valley 21
Portsmouth 13
The Indians did a great job running the ball tonight. They consistently rip off chucks of yards all night. Portsmouth played hard, but they just were physical enough against Valley in the trenches. The passing game was a completely different story. The Trojans had great success throwing the ball when they gave Wedebrook time to get rid of it.
All and all I am happy with the Indians starting the season with a win, but there is a ways to go. There were too many penalties, turnovers, an atrocious kicking game (and that is being nice), and poor pass defense. Other than that, the Indians ran for almost 400 yards tonight and the mistakes are correctable. Time for a great week of practice and improvement next week at Rock Hill.
Re: Portsmouth vs Valley Week 1
There is alot of things that will need to be cleaned up on the Indians offence. The big thing yet to be seen is when Howard has to get into a throwing game when the run is stopped. None of his passes looked good at all tonight 3/6. On that note he ran the ball very well a big game changer. A few adjustments and clean up the penalties they will do very well this season

Ironton might rush for 1200 yards against portsmouth.... JK , but the rush D was very very weak. Sloppy game , tons of penalities . fumbles, even considering it was opening night it was pretty rough . Charles is a good looking player for portsmouth.
Re: Portsmouth vs Valley Week 1
I wouldn't read a whole lot into this win. Like I said earlier this was Portsmouth's only chance for a victory this year. Ptown will get throttled the next 4 weeks. Then it will get worse when thier conference play starts. I still say Valley finishes 4th or 5th in the Soc this year. JMO
