some of us have not forgotten what has made ironton football what it is today, it is a combination of commitment to excellence, great weight program, conditioning, outstanding athletes, fan support and coaching, and much has to do with their schedule, they basically play playoff games every week.so you hit a raw nerve with your whomever left the seoal left because of competition------------horse hockey I say to that.

Athens is picked to go to state. Athens kind of has the whole team back from a regional final run and the best QB ever from SEO[/quote]

Picked by whom?

What Ironton Football is today is a BAD 2 win football team, who may not win another game this season.

footballfan wrote:I really could see Fairland trying to bolt for the SEOL from the OVC.......
The only reason Fairland would bolt from the OVC is if we end up larger than a D4 school and then have to look to joining another league because of playoffs.

That being said, Fairland is in D5 until 2015. Right now, the enrollment is only about 10 kids under the cutoff between D4/D5. If you look at the enrollments at the middle school, and the elementary schools, you'll figure out Fairland won't be D5 long. Around 2017 (unless OHSAA redoes the cutoff numbers) they will be closer to the cutoff between D4/D3.

That being said, while Fairland should blow through the OVC in football this year (and maybe even next year) it won't be long until the other teams catch on and start conditioning athletes to keep up with the Dragons' lob the ball 30-40 yds downfield offense.

Our boys basketball team will continue to either be league champ, co-champ, or 2nd place for awhile, and our girls basketball team doesn't look to be giving up any dominance for a few more years either. So I think for the time being, Fairland will be staying put in the OVC until it starts to affect post-season play.

Also, unless you could guarantee that Chesapeake and Fairland would get to play every year in every sport and that Fairland would play Coal Grove in football, don't count on too many people jumping on the "Let's Leave the OVC" bandwagon.
