Oh, I almost forgot ......... Hey Justy, just thought I would let you know, I would step up and help out in the press-box and call the plays for you..... ;-) But at half-time I would have to take a break and head for the end-zone for some grubbbb...! sniff, sniff , I can smell the cooking already....! Oh by the way General Jack, if there are improvements made on the field can we still reserve the end-zone corner.....?

I just think that a stand needs to be made at some time, because if it is not done they will continue to do what they want when they want. Just like I am hearing now that they are cutting football down to 2 paid asst. coaches, how can 35-45 kids get adequate coaching with 3 coaches, I would be interested to see what other schools in our area have only 2 pd. asst. coaches.

I know that we have several assistants who don't get paid! They do it for the love of the game and for the program and kids mainly! Who in the heck does it for just the money! When our school switched over to a Community School; the first year or so the entire coaching staff did it for free! And no coach gave any less in time and effort! If you really love your schools football program; volunteer for free or give the money to the boosters or like some of our coaches do; we set up a football only fund.

All the money that coaches at the high school level put into this fund goes to the entire football program. From Pee Wee all the way up to high school!

The wives of men who volunteer their time to coach HS football would be very special women, and they would be very lucky men.

It would be hard for any of the SG coaches to coach for free, seeing how the closest lives 30 from the school. We all spent our supplementals on gas money.

Let coaches volunteer, you sound like an administrator who is fine with cutting coaches. Coaches definitely don't do it for the money, but they should be paid for their gas and the money they spend. If we are talking about volunteering I think all sports except for basketball and football should have volunteer coaches because they definitely do not bring money into the athletic funds.

I think that most guys who are coaching HS football love the game enough to coach for free, if all things were equal.

I'm not talking about the Head Coach or even for a couple assistants; we only pay for three assistants and the rest are volunteers. We have between 3 or 4 volunteers each year! I am not a administrator! Are you a teacher? If you are; the gas money issue shouldn't be to much of a problem. I mean your already there at school! Alot of times the head coach would even give pay to the volunteers out of his own pocket. I know Coach Davis did something nice every year for his assistants. And it was a considerable amount of appreciation too!

I think all sports should have paid Head Coaches and assistants too! But you certainly would not pay a swim coach the same as you would the Big 3! Football, Basketball, Baseball/Softball. In most areas softball is being followed more than baseball is; that's why I included them as well!

At South Gallia last year all of the assistant coaches drove over 20 miles a day one way. The only coach in the building last year was the Head Coach. I hope something is worked out so that Coach Peck can coach next year, he truly wants to be with the kids at SG and the people at South Gallia want him there!

Now lets get back to the kids. The young men are working hard and will make the most out of the opportunities they will have. Go Rebels!

I hope you folks get things worked out too! Whatever is best for the kids! Thats the bad thing about being a school in the county though! Well, best of luck to you folks in getting the right staff together! I think we have a good one this year considering the circumstances!

Why would the wives be special, Karl?

because a lot of wives would be unhappy with their husbands if they were spending that amount of time the comes along with coaching football and not being compensated for it.

I give my coaching checks to my wife and tell her to do whatever with them. By no means am I badmouthing my wife because she just cycles them in with the rest of the money. But other wives expect some sort of substantial present out of their husbands' coaching checks.

I have been following this thread and a couple of others because I have two sons who play football at one of the schools in this county. My husband has coached in the past, also, which means that any comment directed at the wife-of-a-coach is going to interest me, since I've been there, done that. Karl's post struck me as a strange comment, and it confused me. So I wish he'd answered my question. I definitely wouldn't have wanted my husband to coach for nothing, and I think he'd agree that I'm pretty special. Do wives exist only to provided support to their husbands? I know that this is off-topic, but Karl's comment was, if I'm taking it correctly, pretty sexist and pretty backward.
