Hard to fault the state for making the team that has been here the home team. I'm guessing the state knows what kind of crowd Coldwater will bring. They are the known entity. If you want to see that as a lack of respect then that is fine, but the state at least has a leg to stand on in this case.

Coldwater played a regular season game in front of 5000+. They will bring a crowd.

The home Team in the final 4 is done in advance and they change it each year... When the Burg wins this game, they will be the home Team for State game... For the home side bleachers , it still goes to the school that has the most pre sale tickets.......

Not sure Home field advantage holds much weight at the Shoe!
Pretty sure both schools travel great, but not that great!
Just answering everyone's ?? I personally do not think Home Field advantage holds much weight period.

As I previously stated it does not matter to me, homeside visitor side whatever. And I don't think pirate fans are complaining because they aren't happy to be playing for a state semi. They are complaining because we are the number one seed and have earned the more comfortable side to sit and watch the game.

WELL GANG WE ARE DOWN TO OUR LAST HOPE THIS YEAR FOR A SOUTHERN TEAM TO WIN IT ALL.
AND RIGHTLY SO AS THE BURG TEAM BEAT THE BEST OF WHAT WE HAD DOWN HERE INCLUDING A JACKSON IRONMEN TEAM THAT JUST WENT DOWN THIS WEEKEND. I SPECT EVERYBODY IN SOUTHERN OHIO IS A BURG FAN THIS WEEKEND. AND THE PIRATES HAVE ONE OF THE TALLEST TASKS IN THE STATE THIS WEEK WITH COLDWATER. AND PERSONALLY I THINK IT'S A TOSS UP MYSELF. SO GOOD LUCK TO THE WHEELERSBURG PIRATES THIS WEEKEND. 1 GAME AT A TIME YA'LL.

I have read every post on this topic. I think the burg fans have a very legitimate beef with ohsaa about the seating arrangements. I am not familiar with this particular stadium. but seldom ever does a visitors side ever live up to what is said. I've seen this situation played out with ironton so many times through the years, that we wore it as a badge of honor and extra motivation. we knew it was coming. if you're south of Columbus you are gonna get hosed traveling. let's call it what it is. you wanna talk homefield advantages here. ironton played akron saint Vincent saint Mary's in 1979 for the state championship in the akron rubber bowl=====================HELLO OHSAA.it don't get much more uneven than that. and it continued year after year. and as tiger fans we'd fill our side up, then yours. it was our jab back. the state don't care where you sit as long as they get the money. I love the idea of peden stadium in Athens. more than enough seats. and nobody will stand, turf , excellent facilities, parking, concession everything you need is right there. ample restrooms, easy access from anywhere in the state. handicap friendly.no mile down hill like cincy's pit. it's perfect. all I can say is I hope the stadium will hold the burg crowd because it is a jab. nothing worse in sports than standing for 2 hours in the freezing cold somewhere up north in a line to get in. no restrooms, no shelter. and when the gates open, everybody with good knees still get all the good seats as they thunder by you.

I've always felt a better idea was at the gate, have police there at the playoffs right there in the line. let 50 people in at a time, in a very orderly time. who cares how early they get there. just more concession money. it's way more than a 9 dollar ticket. it's travel, gas, an earned opportunity to get adequate seating as your team and community has earned this right. people get hurt in these stampedes. wheelersburg travels just like ironton did. they bring the whole town. you don't want your 79 year old pops to get trampled when they open the gates after you stood there 2.5 hours in the cold. and wherever it is. there shood be shuttles. this is big time. and the hosts and the state should realize this. it's stuff like this that keeps fans home.

I remember seemingly at ironton like every other year we were heading to a state championship game back in the day. and we had this same situation every year. just be glad you are there. make the most of it and enjoy the moment. but I have no disrespect for the burg fans at all for the complaints for us tiger fans have done the same thing for years. but home field should be earned irregardless of geographics. no one part of the state should be more important than any other.you need facilities and cities that offer everything and luxury that you can provide for the fans of both teams. and the fact that all the mac teams are home tems, shows the blatant disregard for the south.and it is a legitimate beef in my opinion, and just sitting back and taking it is not what southern ohio teams take lightly, we need a voice for the people about this. so let ohsaa have it till they hear us. and there are tons of us that wish it was our team there again, but understand your plight. wear it as a badge of honor. and place a chip firmly on your shoulders, and have a thunderous loud southern crowd there backing the burg.i remember many a semi final where the crowd was spelling tigers and the stadium was slathered with fighting tigers fans bellering from every corner of the stadium, whatta rush , I sure miss them days.good luck to you pirates , don't lose focus of the bigger task here, and take it one game at a time. the people who are saying whoever wins this, wins the state. they obviously ain't rode this coaster as much as us tiger fans, cause we have seen it all. it's a near impossibility for a southern team to get this far. and especially playing the private schools at this level of competition. but they gotta put their pants on the same way. so if it is fairly officiated, I look for this to be a lower scoring grind it out kinda game. and the teams from the dirty south would not have it any other way. so go pirates, show em sone smashmouth river rat football.

I mean no disrespect to any poster here. but unless you or your team have been through this, you would not understand, that's why I have no disdain for pirate fans sounding off. it is a blatant disregard for the teams of the south and that's exactly how the OHSAA means it to come over. the very best thing to do is take every seat there , make it a home game. and take it to them. a mac team has no more right to the home side than us southern teams do no matter how many state games they been to in a row. I think it's time for a changing of the guards at OHSAA. but nothing more would the south like than to shove it down their gullet's and a south team win in spite of any disrespect shown. good luck pirates, godspeed and safe travels for all southern fans heading that way.

and somebody needs to make this a sticky as far as a moderator. and release the zane trace thread from the stickies. I actually by mistake put my first post on that topic. it don't get any bigger than this, so our mods need to have this game front and center. it's the only game us fellers/gals from the south that we are interested in.

Does anyone know how the determine the home team? The Pirates have the number 1 seed in the region. This is broken down to regions because it provides a higher probability that teams will play similar opponents. I believe the reason the OHSAA doesn't go by points for the semifinal pairings is because the points are not a good comparative when the distance between both teams are so great that there are no similar opponents.

Has anyone been to the stadium in Xenia? This may not be as big of an issue as the forum is making it out to be.

Westfall fan here. When Westfall played coldwater in the division semifinal back in 2007 we were also given the away side. Im not completely sure how they decide who is home, Westfall had more points that year just as burg does this year. We were told it was due to presale tickets, but i dont know the real way it is decided. Its probably just because coldwater has been there so many times before and ohsaa knows they bring a crowd, we were the new guys playing in week 14, coldwater wasn't. I do feel your pain though burg fans. Good luck Friday night and represent SEO well, i may make the trip to Xenia to watch it as well.

Again....There is no such thing as the "#1 seed" in the state semi-finals. It does not exist.

So it's 4 random teams who are equal???
I call BS. If thats the case The MAC isn't equal. They got home field in ALL of their games!

Sounds to me like a #1 overall conference!

I never said that either.

I just stated that these posters claiming Wheelersburg is the "#1 seed" are incorrect.

Ok there is no number one seed whatever. Mac schools are the only ones that are lower seeded in the region that are the home school. OHSAA is catering to them and its bull crap.

Watching video... #4 Schoenherr WR 6'0 210 seems to be their Best Player. Impressive Athletes all around but he stands out.
Other seem just as impressive as the Burg.

home stands or the visitor stands i don't think the burg cares. i think they are just glad to be playing in wk 14. this is gonna be a bad ass game between to powerhouse teams. sure coldwater is the fav. they have been to the state finals 6 straight yrs. i look for the burg to go to xenia and play burg football like they have all season and shock the world and knock off the 3 time defending champs
