Good win. Can't say anything about it, we couldn't stop your offense. As far as the bad calls, it was a terrible crew all around. I've never seen so much huddling between the refs. Our bad calls were more important to the outcome. As far as 28 points better like you said earlier this week, not a chance. We went toe toe and had our chances. I'm sure you didn't play your best like read every week though.
You are right, probably 35 points better. You lost quit crying. Waverly didn’t have the best game but still won by 3 scores. Waverly showed you why late in the game they were on a different level.

There is a huge difference of stopping yourselves and being stopped.

With that said Waverly really needs to stop trying to be cute near the goal line. Point and Momentum killers.

Can score from anywhere on the field with a minute left but can’t do anything with it inside the 5 unless it’s a game winning 2pt conversion.

Waverly needs to stop playing down to opponents or this will be who they become.

Outside of SiderBlood, thanks west for a good game. You guys are much improved and have a bright future!
I'm not crying about anything, Waverly is a very good team. Terrible interception call and you probably still win, but definitely makes it more interesting. I'm just saying when you continuously say you "play down" or have a bad night after 6 weeks it makes you look bad. This was a one score game with 10 minutes left and in your Redzone. If you know football, especially high school football that was your ball game. A pick 6 the other way deflates the comeback. You are not 35 points better.
It hasn’t been a continuous theme until this week. Waverly is very explosive and they aren’t performing close to a full game the way they should be and started the season. There is a difference between unforced errors and someone stopping you.

But it is becoming problematic. They can’t play this way against teams at or near their level.

You can try to walk around it all you want but west is not on the same level as Waverly. There is an obvious gap in talent.

That doesn’t mean west can’t beat Waverly.

Minford had no business playing burg tonight and almost won.
Piketon Killed Minford and I don’t think Piketon could come within 2tds of burg. Folks like you embarrass SEO with this thought process.

You should be proud of your team for keeping it a close game as long as it was. But when you look at crucial moments in these games their is a clear advantage.

14-7 fake punt. Turned the game. Great call. Waverly got complacent ready to run wild on west and bam. Not happening. Got overzealous on the pass plays after 1st half success. Knew that was going to happen later in game. 4 picks playing out of their element.

What’s sad is so far west is the worst at supporting other local teams. Quit being pissy it’s not your year. Wheelersburg lost for the first time to Waverly in 12 or so years and they didn’t say half of the stupid stuff you guys are.

Portsmouth had way more of an argument and still not as bad. Jackson Fans for the majority are honest about their teams.

I knew before this week and forum started west was not to be overlooked. Playing Fairland that tough is awesome this year. They put ironton on the brink.

47-28 was the final. No matter how you try to change the score it doesn’t matter.

Waverly clearly had the skill gap to make this a very ugly game quick and didn’t. West played a great first half. Nothing they could do. The teams separated themselves.

If you think that score is a representation of how that game was played you’re goofy.

West was driving down 6 in the fourth. Threw a pick 6 and that changed the game. After that time wasn’t on our side and the run game was taken out of the equation.

Waverly is a good team with 2 great recievers that are a matchup problem. West had the game where they wanted it. Waverly loaded the box (4-3 with all 3 linebackers between the tackles and both ends inside) and West was still running the ball for positive yards. What West has to do going forward is make teams pay for doing this.

Proud how West showed up to win. Those kids played their hearts out. Yes their was some very very questionable calls on big plays and the game was officiated terribly. Build on this and don’t loose the rest of the year. We’ll return 17 or 18 starters next year

The amount of starters and backups out (some for the season) that Waverly is dealing with would cripple some teams but somehow they have managed to pull these games out and stand at 5-0.
I agree with LetsBeReal, even with these injuries and illnesses, the Tigers have some things they need to fix - it is becoming problematic as he stated and will bite them in the butt at some point.

I was hoping Portsmouth was that wake up call. Then it continued. I think the injuries will leave them good enough to win out in the SOC but take a 3rd (old second) beating. Losing Boles to me was the worst injury. True 4.4 speed around here is rare. With teams doubling Eill Futhey and now Penn he could of been a deep threat at all times. Would of tested Wade Futheys arm strength for sure.

Where is the pass rush? 2 studs at end and they finally started getting pressure late last night. Any Qb with a pulse will throw all over you if they have all day to throw.

Late(sometimes very late) starts.

Goal Line Offense( play selection).

I did see something fixed last night though. After a successful run sometimes it was a repeat and sometimes went with another play from the same formation.

That's what I'm saying. They are a very talented team, but these guys get on here every week and honestly make Waverly sound bad. Every team you beat you have excuses about why it should have been more. Or say you play down to the competition. How about this? Portsmouth and West both are good football teams. They were good games and you guys won both. You don't have to discount everyone, we all know you are the best in the SOC right now. Does that mean you can't be beat, absolutely not. Ptown played you til the very end and could have won. West had the opportunity with 10 minutes left to take the lead and who knows what would have happened. Pick 6, and that's a 12 point swing. Congrats you won.

I thought West had a very good game plan and executed it well for 3 quarters. They were incredibly efficient on 3rd and 4th downs, I credit a lot of that to West making plays and poor tackling by Waverly. They easily could have won the game if they would have kept scoring and left no time on the clock. Waverly's offense puts pressure on you to know you have to outscore them because you probably aren't going to stop them.
Let's address the what if's. These happen in every game and one play can swing a game 14 points, they usually even out.
Down 14-7 IF West doesn't have a high snap on 4th down do they get the 1st on the scramble by the punter? IF not, Waverly has the ball near midfield and likely goes up two scores. (Huge West Swing)
IF the OBVIOUS targeting call is made on the hit in the backfield to a back running a swing pattern that wasn't in the play, Waverly has a 1st and 10 at West's 30. (West Swing)
IF West doesn't let Waverly go 65 yards in 40 seconds before half and has a 21-14 lead at half??? I thought that was the difference in the game. I give credit to Waverly for making plays but blame West too, (Don't kick the ball out of bounds!)
Obviously the Pick 6 was the dagger. I thought it was a bit of Karma since #10 for Waverly was the one that took the cheap shot that I mentioned earlier that didn't get called and he was the one that made the play. That put Waverly up 12 and even if West scored, it seemed as though Waverly could if they had to.
If your not a Waverly fan, and hadn't seen them at the beginning of the season it does get annoying hearing about their injuries. However, if you are a Waverly fan and you see 5-8 starters, some all league caliber players, in street clothes and you see a much different looking team on the field, it is hard not to mention it. It is obvious. Waverly staff is trying to save some guys for later in the season and some won't be back. They were lucky to survive the last two weeks and will likely struggle with Valley if they are still saving players for Burg week 8.

What if they call the 1st half interception by Morrison when West is driving In the first half incomplete when he is a foot out of bounds?

What if they run the Clock before half and call the Touchdown to Futhey incomplete when he trapped the ball on the ground?

That's what I'm saying, both sides play the "What if" game all night long. I was standing in the corner of the end zone on the td before half and could tell it wasn't a trap by the sound. You heard the ball hit the chest of his shoulder pads. Seeing the replay proved it. It was a great HS football game that West had a punchers chance of winning late in the game, which is all you could ask for. Hopefully they build off the positives and win out.

The ball was off the ground when it got to him, but the video is not good enough to see everything. He has black gloves on which appear to be under the ball without any ball movement. But there are several blurred frames that make it hard to tell. Maybe there is other video.

I actually went over the roster and counted 10 projected starters heading into the season were out for the West game and that doesn’t count other kids who were out for other games.. Hurd and Smith went down and out during the Portsmouth game while Offense/Defense lineman Long became unavailable late in the week for the West game.
Every team has injuries no doubt but I haven’t heard of any team in the area playing with so many key players out. Maybe people don’t want to hear it and think we/I am crying or whining but isn’t this site the place to talk about your team and that includes fighting through injuries. I’ve been accused of using the injuries as an excuse - we haven’t lost so I’m not using it as an excuse for anything. It’s a testament to the next man up attitude and you can survive these games by being deep heading into the season. Waverly was deep at some positions but have been absolutely decimated at those positions.
Talking about it isn’t diminishing the opponent either. Portsmouth and West are very good ball clubs and put together great games plans. In the end they came up just short. Nobody is talking about the injuries saying we would have beat either of those teams badly without the injuries.

ALL OF THESE WERE OUT AGAINST WEST
Top 4 RB’s (first two out for the season - Harris & Shoemaker)
4 main LB’s (two out for the season)
A WR/DB with All State speed (out for the season)
Arguably the best O-lineman who is also arguably the best D-lineman
2 other D-linemen (one out for the season)

Maybe that list puts it in perspective - look at your teams roster and mark out the players at those starting positions and substitutes and think how your team would do without them.

Waverly will continue to fight and claw through this season and happy to be 5-0 at this point.

West has a very good ball club with a real good shot at winning out and making some noise in the playoffs.

The Tigers have suffered quite a few injuries and still have a perfect record. A lot of credit to their program as they developed the depth on their roster to overcome the injuries. One comment I would like to address was smurray (who I consider a quality member of this site who is usually on target with most of his comments) was about the officiating. There is NO assigner for football in the SOC (the only sport that has a league assigner is basketball). The officials for this game were actually hired by West as it was their original home game and they kept them on the game. If you watch the major college games and the NFL games and the mistakes that highly paid officials make, maybe we are too critical of our high school officials

I'm done and moved on from this game but I did have a chance to watch the film today. I thought the touchdown right before half clearly hit the ground. But it is too tough to tell in the film. In an instant decision I'll give them that one. (Not to mention the fact they were awarded atleast 15 seconds on this drive). But the interception call is straight up bad. One foot hits atleast 2 foot out of bounds. I'm not saying this changes the outcome, but that is pivotal. I agree we put alot of pressure and scrutiny and know its easier said than done. I appreciate the guys that get out there and do it. The competitive nature comes back as adults, getting to watch the young ones do what you use to love to do sometimes.

Good point on the officials. I knew Waverly didn’t get the officials and was mistaken about a league assigner…
