Sure Keller is a big boy and hard to bring down, but it is impossible to tackle someone from your knees with your head down in the open field. West's defensive backs are physical and dont shy from contact when they break down to tackle.

Its funny that everyone in the stadium knows what Burg is going to do based on their formation. Trips right and Shears scrambles to the trips, dragging every defender across the field, then turns and runs to the backside. Twins right and left and he runs up the middle. They just spread the defense out and run to the backside. But no defense has been able to contain him. That still gets the bulk of Burg's yards on the ground.

It will be interesting to see if West doesnt take a kid like Bricker or Auger and have them spy on Shears every play.
It will be interesting to see how West defends them. Valley gashed us at times out of the spread. But they had the dominate tailback to go with a great Qb and receiver. Burg has a couple nice backs that run hard, but they aren't Keller. After Valley spread us out, Keller could find the seams and cutback lanes.

We have a heck of an athlete in Austin Bricker that we can use as a nickel look. Will we stay with the 5-2 or try some nickel?
I hope we goto the Nickel look...the 5-2 is killing us!

6 picks, 3 of them in a cover II...For the season the sharks have 16 picks....Killing us???

To answer the questions about our fans I too was very surprised that they were not there- had to be because of the rain because our attendance has been outstanding again this year. As for our passing game- our quarterback has to "see" the field all receivers not just lock on one- west did a good job of rushing but that has been a problem this year of not seeing the receivers open and locking in on one. good luck to West- ;-) Go Burg

I agree!! I can't say enough how impressed I am with how Burg's young kids grew up over the course of the season. They are going to be dangerously good the next couple of years.

And even though I wish you guys the best and I'm rooting for a Valley-West regional match up, I can't help but to be dumb-founded about some of the comments regarding Valley and West! When Valley beat West, after weeks of being given no chance on this board, only a small number of West fans even commented on this game. Now Mr UPNYA4 (classy name, lol) is shooting off again with the same assinine comments. In both the Valley-West and Valley-Burg games, The Indians lost the turnover and penalty battle! They even lost lost the special teams battle by a LARGE margin in the Burg game... Yet they were able to come out on top. The Indians proved to be the class of the SOC by beating each team in their path and doing so in impressive fashion. Give credit where credit is due and quit living up to the stereotypes! Your kids are classier than that, maybe the fans should take notes.
Dont judge our community by his comments, in no way does his comments or personality represent me or the majority of the West Side. Some people just can't grow up.

noles_fan,

On behalf my buddy Bo, I'm sure he doesn't judge you all the same. Through our conversations, I know you're a stand-up individual who takes pride in his team, his community and the character they show.

This is a different team. Just look at the way they both played Burg. Valley played them till the end and West dominated them in every aspect of the game.
One note of interest is that West scored 20 of their 40 points in the last 7 minutes of the game so there wasn't a whole lot of "dominating" up to that point. Just sayin'.
Here is a stat for you. West 338 yds vs. Burg 109 total offense. Maybe it's just me but thats pretty dominate.

I really hope you pay attention to what I am about to tell. You are suppose to be a Jr. High coach. This means you are a representative of West schools and the West football system. This means you have to be able to let thing roll off your back. Coaches are suppose to show tact and not get goaded into a p*ssing match on a chat board. You can be passionate about West football but by getting on her trying to stir the pot is just silly. Valley beat us all around in are game there is nothing going to change that game. By continuing to go on about the same thing over and over makes you and the entire West Side look like poor sportsman and sore losers. I know you never played on a winning team in High School but as someone who did let me say this. We do our talking on the field. If we dont win we use it as motivation for the next game and not make excuses as why we didnt win. Just let this game go!!!!!

I've always been more impressed with the score more so than the stats.

I was at the game and West did dominate the LOS and therefore the game, but they also did score 20 points in the last 7 minutes as well, so the game was still within the Burgs reach at that time.

As for the fans, I too was very disappointed at the amount of Burg fans in the stands. Pretty pathetic considering that will be the last game for those stands and that field. I figured a few more would be there to witness that. I will say this though, the true Burg fans were there cheering on the team no matter what the weather conditions.

To the person that mentioned the Burg fans standing on the hill on the visitors side, have you never been to Ed Miller Stadium before??? I have lived here since 1971 and Burg people have stood on that hill for as long as I can remember. We usually don't have any problems from anyone about us standing there, though there is the ocassional person who has a problem with it.

Also, the reason Shears was sacked so many times is that our Offensive Coordinator obviously still never realized, even after seeing the same problem all season, that the line cannot sustain blocks long enough to complete 30 to 40 yard passes. Yet, he continued to try to send receivers halfway down the freakin' field instead of trying 7 or 8 yards passes to just move the chains. This had happened all season long and was never corrected

Good luck to West next Friday against Nelsonville. Show them how SOC football is played.

Yea, every trip I've made to Ed Miller, the hill with all the numbers painted on it (visitor side) is ALWAYS full of Burgites and always has been.

Your guys commented on the crowd. I was surprised by the poor showing also. It wasn't the rain. It rained on our side also. Seems as if their is alot of fair weather fans there just like everywhere. Show up when your favored, stay home when your not.

Williams is not the OC. Kaskey has been calling the plays the last two years

Was not able to attend but it sounds like the Burg hung with them for a little bit. The Burg will strong again the next few years. Freshman I think went undefeated and that was without four starting lineman as they were on the varsity. It might not be next but the few years after that, oh my. Lot of speed coming up for that new turf field.

Congrats to West on the victory and congrats to the Burg on a very nice season. A season where a lot people picked them to finish no better that 3-7 to 4-6.

You don't think there would have been more people there if the sky's were clear and the temp was in the 60's? Even with the down year the burgs had plenty of support this yr. This group was fun to watch, not all that talented but they left it all on the field every game. Actually the opposite kind of happened this yr, everyone knew the burg was down and they thought they might have a chance so the burg opponents had much larger crowds this yr.

People picked that based off of who they played the year before. Burg is well coached and compete, but that was the worst wheelersburg team that I've ever seen. Shears is a fine athlete, maybe the best around. The Millers are good. Other than that they didn't have much. If this team played the 2010 schedule, which I understand they didn't, they probably do go 5-5 with losses to Oak Hill and Minford. What I mean is the 7-3 record is a reflection of the schedule weakness. They may be better next year, but I still think they struggle for at least 1 more year compared to burg standards.
