To be fair, Shaun Terry and Kayden Edwards going to make most defenses they play look slow. But yeah, Burg is probably over-scheduled for this year and should look to lighten future nonconference schedule (take harvest prep off for sure).

Burg should get better as year goes on, but did you see anything tonight that would lead you to believe they can compete with Ironton or Harvest Prep come playoffs? Not sure I did. But then again, I said same thing in 2021 and they knocked Ironton out of playoffs after losing to them 41-7 in regular season opener.

As for the offense, seems to be a real identity issue. All these kids predominately have run the spread since peewees. Hard to decide in one offseason that you now want to be a power running team. But given how rough the passing game has looked against real defenses, they might not have a choice.*

One thing I see in burgs favor is that there kids play hard and aren't afraid to lay the wood out there. Hope they right the ship. Outstanding program facilities and fans. Good luck the rest of the way.

Beating IHS or HP? No.

As for the offense, the identity crisis is in its fourth year. And you are right, can’t just transition from spread to power eye in an offseason. Should have been a change made in the system years ago, but I digress.

They still can run out of the spread and even showed some success early on. After the long TD drive, Burg should have come back with the same approach. Instead, they decided to come out slinging the ball. Absolutely the worst decision they could have made given recent results from the last possession, time on the clock, current score, etc. Anyone with a football IQ above 5 could see what they should have done. Instead, they did the exact opposite.

Finally, did you see how Kasky eased his QB into the game? Very well played. Meanwhile, Burg has their QB scrambling around the backfield firing the ball late over the middle. That’s how they eased him into the game!

1-10. Won’t beat any team that has a pulse. Kids laying all over the field every other play is an embarrassment. That Oline isn’t big, there just fat. What do we have to go 1-20, 1-30 against these same teams before you wake up and realize we can’t compete with them anymore. .

Burg tied 7-7 with the ball and 5 minutes to go in the half.

So what do they do? Back to back pass plays and three and out. Now down 17-7.

They should have ran the ball, it was working. But just like last year, the coaches refuse to do the obvious. Absolutely refuse. Quite amazing that they never learn.
Time for a change it seems.
The Burg coaches refuse to stick with what works.
What exactly would that be? I haven’t seen anything they do good against anyone outside of the SOC post Holden. I can see a few more running clocks put on the burg the remainder of the season. 6-4 at best. Will lose to the first solid team they meet in the playoffs. So basically a normal burg football season post Holden .

Well I see the booze took over last night. Lol

In the past three years, burg has been the regional runner up and has started two sophomore QBs and a QB that wasn’t a passer. What burg has done in the past three seasons is remarkable. Two years ago, when they went to the region, they probably played 6 to 7 sophomores that season.

This year, Burgs defense had 6 new starters on defense. A new punter and kicker, had to start a sophomore at running back.

Ironton has like 18 seniors and player like Terry. Burg would have had to play an almost perfect game to win. I think at the end of the year, once again you will see a different burg team, they will develop like they always do.

May start 0-3. Heck, may be 2-4 after six weeks. They’ll do Wheelersburg things and be better by the end of the year, but watching last night do you see a playoff contender? No.

SOC contender? Hard to say this early.

On a side note. The BSN broadcast is top notch.

I was a lot more confident after ironton game then the race land game. People will laugh at that after taking on the chin last night. But here’s what I saw. When you play a kid like terry and a senior led team, you have to do what the scouting report tells you. On two of his touchdowns, I saw two breakdowns that could have prevented the two big scores he had. But I also saw burg when in position be very sound in their tackling and be aggressive defensively. I didn’t see that in raceland scrimmage. So I can see some of that green get coached up by the end of the year.

Early Schedule is not in burgs favor with these top teams with how green they are right now. But I don’t think the soc will have anyone challenge them. So they need to use this tough schedule to work out their kinks

Not as deep as previous burg teams so health will play a role and I would vanilla the offense down to about 7 run plays and about 3 passing plays. If they can improve on the mental side, I think they could be a factor down the road but it’s still early.

no booze
exact same season though. its like the movie groundhog day. lose to ironton, jackson prep every yr and probably drop the Mcnick game. march through SOC and say were back, then lose to the first good team we see in the playoffs. same excuses every single yr. sooner or later you have to look at yourself in the mirror and say this is who we are now
shouldnt those 6-7 sophmores be 3 yr starters now? returning qb, returning oline, and you still look that putrid on offense? How many mental mistakes the first couple offensive drives. all summer to prepare and thats how you come out, really?

Are you bypassing the fact we were regional runners up 2 of the last 3 seasons? SOC 2 of the 3 Burg ain’t loaded every year. Lol. I mean that’s an accomplishment.

no more on the fact we cant beat the good teams on the schedule. hey if beating northwest and oakhill is success than we have a great program. If you want make excuse after excuse why we are 1-10 against ironton jackson and prep than thats ok

I would agree with you if we weren’t advancing in the playoffs but that ain’t the case. I mean you have to really think back to our rosters. There’s not one d1 or d2 kid on our team in the last three years since Covid. I think we’ve done a good job.

look at the teams were beating to advance though. were beating barely .500 teams like PHS, west, africentric, heath. Even the teams with impressive records like barnesville arent exactly powerhouses, they barely squeaked by a very avg piketon ball team. except for the ironton win a few yrs ago in the playoffs we will just about always lose to the first good football team we face

Prep and Ironton are benefiting from multiple transfers. It is what it is. We are winning the games we are supposed to

I can only think of a handfull of D1 kids we've had in the past 30 yrs so I dont think that's it.
