Playsports, Assassin, abuck, RIGHT ON. Maybe thats whats wrong with FHS sports. Too many individuals and not enough team players. And all along the school board thought it was Wilcoxin. And Mom, I think the Basketball coach left coaching on his own to further his proffessional career didn't he? Who are they (BOE/Players/parents) gonna blame on that one. FHS is so screwed up right now I wouldn't blame anyone for bailing out. But do they really expect it to be better elsewhere. Politics play into everything everywhere. Look what Ironton went through a couple years ago. "To hell with education lets all worry about playing ball ". The way gas prices are going there probably wont be any sports programs in a couple years. Then how is little billy going to get to college.

Ump these are the facts FHS doesn't support athletics period. That is the main reason why Belville left and he was also told he would not be considered for a principal position. It has already been promised to somebody else. Ump is it fair that one coach gets fired for a loosing record ( Wilcoxen) and another one doesn't ( Chapman )? Now lets be honest the BOE took care of their buddies and not the kids. Why hire a coach that is about to retire? Why take the job when you are get ready to retire? What's in it for him? I asked one of the candidates for the basketball position if they interviewed him and what kind of questions they asked. He told me they asked one question and when he told me what it was I laughed. It was something like would you work with the buddy league program, and that is the truth . What a joke!

Ump, you need to talk to the coaches and players to get your facts correct. And obviously sports are important to you or you wouldn't be on here talking about them.

Why is it ok for coaches to leave for better situations but if a kid does it they are just being individuals.
Kids leave for many reasons. These kids are having to make decisions that are very difficult, and we have individuals on here calling them selfish. If a kid left Fairland to take a German coarse at rock hill would you be upset. Who you should be upset with is the BOE. The way they are doing business is absurd. Running off a young coach for a man ready to retire? Knowing full well that kids could leave at 6000.00 per student.

Take off your green and white shades and look a the bright new world. These kids are looking to better their situation. Wouldn't you?

Buck and Mom, I know you guys are upset and your kid is one of those talking of transferring. And I know in your heart you need to justify the move. What ever you decide, your son needs to think long and hard wether he wants to leave all his friends and graduate from a school he has few ties to, just to play ball. All those kids talking of leaving need to ask themselves that question. And as far as Belville goes, I think if he was told straight-up there was no principles job for him I would leave also. I think he must have his priorities straight to choose his carreer over sports. Maybe some of the athletes need to mirror that example. Worry about education as priority #1. And the question of Miss Chapman, I have often asked myself how she remains the coach. That's one for those involved to directly ask the board. I truly hate to see the direction FHS athletics is going. They're slowly becoming the joke of the OVC. And that's a shame.

But as I said earlier, that's just my opinion.

please try not to link all FHS sports together some are doing quite well. 11 regional qualifiers in track
OVC champions Track XC Wrestling Baseball. and there are a few other college athletes left off list and some offers that have not been taken. Many of these athletes have the ability to compete in college if they choose.

Ump it is not mine or mom's decision as it always has been when it comes to sports it is his decision to make. All we can do is get as much info as we can and let him make the decision and I know it is a hard decision these kids have to make.

If you know my son Ump, then you know there is never "just to play ball". I know that it is his passion-some like fishing, hunting, others like to compete. It is a hard decision but we've had a lot of hard decisions. Ultimately, its his to make.

I certainly hope all factors have been thoroughly investigated. What's to say your son doesn't get the chance to play ball because the talent is extensive at the new school then where does that leave him? Is he OK to stand and support the team from the side?

There are 3 kids that I have heard rumors of transferring and I don't think it's a question of them starting where ever they go. They are of caliber to play for ANY team in this area.

sign them up then---maybe just a question of where to go then. All to one school or are they all getting split up?

Ok, let's say these kids transfer to the school play a year and decide for whatever reason that they want to transfer back? Doesn't NCAA have rules for this? Otherwise there would be a lot of transfers in and out of schools. I believe you have to sit one year. What year of school are they in now?

i find it laughable that two parents on here say it is there kids decision to make where they want to go to HIGH SCHOOL at. it is now easy to see why problems exist. im sure most of kids go to school where their parents tell them, not where they want. at least the kids who's parents give them structure.

I would have to agree with you "pooper". I think this would have to be a parental decision. It's a cop out to say I'm putting it in the hands of my child. The parents are still the parents until age 18.

Pigskin & Pooper,
It's awfully bold (and not very intelligent) for you to assert that these parents are copping out & not giving the kids structure at home - all based on ONE issue. These kids could be coming from a very structures/disciplined home...but, on this one issue, the parents are giving the kids the final say-so. Based on the present leadership of the schools and the athletic department, I think it'd be in the kids' best interest to get the heck out of Fairland, but I'm not to going to sit here & bash the kids or parents for whatever decision they make or how they make it.
