Im sure N-Y will come out on top in this game, week one they're working all season on this big rivalry. With barrick at qb(has improved a lot) arnold at rb, and talbert at fb. its gonna be a hard backfield to stop, along with the passing game they seem to have opened up a lot. Barrick and Talberts senior year they'll go out with a bang, It seemed to me talbert has got a lot stronger and quicker i talked to the coaches and they said he ran his last 40 at 4.8 at 215..He was a load last year and im sure he'll be knockin some helmets around this year, especially week 1 when those tomcats travel to N-Y.

I look for another close game again this year. I think the cats will have the better team though just like last year. N-Y couldn't find much on the ground and the tomcats won the game late. I believe the cats will score a couple for times but so will the buckeyes. I look for a tomcat victory at 20-13

These are some good predictions, and I know that Trimble has looked good in 7 on 7. But it will be a whole lot different when you have Offensive and Defensive lines on the field. Does Trimble have any size? And dont they have a new QB?

Well i think trimble only lost one starting lineman from last year but im not positive on that.So i think trimble will do ok on the o and d lines.Should be a good game

Nelsonville always looks to have opened up the offense a little this time of year. Then when the season starts it's right back to the power I. I look for more of the same this year. As for the Trimble game. Should be another good one. I'll give Nelsonville the edge because its at home and they will probably be in better shape.

With the thrill calling the plays for NY, I think buckeyes in this one. I heard he's waiting for Madden 09 to come out so he can fulfill his playbook. NY will be running that Redskin offense. Go bucks!

This game will be hard to say who will win . Trimble lost very little from last year and they won. NY has the home field. But dont forget the most mistakes are made in that fisrt game . Then you work the bugs out later the next game. Playing the first game will be who does not make the most mistakes .

This will be the 39th matchup all-time between the Buckeyes and Tomcats. NY has a 2 to 1 advantage in the win column with 24 wins to 12 losses and 2 ties. If you only count the games since consolidation of Nelsonville and York, the Tomcats are tied with Belpre in terms of number of games played against NY with 38 each. Vinton County had played NY 40 times dating back to 1967, the first season of NY football.

NY leads all-time series 24 wins, 12 losses, 2 ties
1970 Glouster (H) 24-0
1971 Nelsonville-York (A) 58-0
1972 Nelsonville-York (H) 45-0

This will be the first time NY vs. Trimble is played in Week 1. This year marks only the sixth new opening week opponent for NY dating back to consolidation.

The previous week one opponents:

Warren 1967-1969 (3 seasons)
Logan 1970-1971 and 1987-1988 (4 seasons)
North Gallia 1972-1973 (2 seasons)
Crooksville 1974-1982 (9 seasons)
Athens 1983-1986 and 1989-2007 (23 seasons) (NY vs. Athens was week 10 in '87 and '88)

NY is 25-16 all-time in the opening game of the season in the 41 seasons of Buckeye football.

Tomcat, while NY is slightly larger than Trimble, I would point out that if you look at the history of who NY plays in football both in league and out of league, Trimble is about the closest in size to NY as NY plays. Most schools NY plays are bigger schools. A difference of around 20 kids in each class is hardly anything compared to the differences in size NY has had with Athens, Vinton County, Logan, etc. over the years. I don't think NY has ever been more than one division bigger than Trimble. NY was D 4 for years when Trimble was D 5. Now each school is one division smaller with NY D 5 and Trimble D 6.

Both NY and Trimble were much larger than they are today in previous decades. If NY and Trimble consolidated today, the new school would barely be larger than NY was when Nelsonville and York first consolidated in 1967.
