Congrats. Wasn't Vass a freshman on both the Ironton and Marshall championship teams? Who are his assistants?

Congrats to Coach Vass! The Head Coach position at Ironton is a tremendous accomplishment.

It's good to see someone get their dream job, but you don't want to be the guy to follow a legend.
The real problem for Ironton is their rapidly declining enrollment, and proportionally their talent level. Without transfers they cannot sustain the same level of success their accustomed to. Transfer's didn't go there to play at Ironton; they went there to play for Bob Lutz. In the future a lot more Lawrence county kids will catch the bus in front of the house and Ironton athletics will decline.

Re: Irontons new coach is....
This statement couldn't be more incorrect. I live outside the city limits and send my kids to Ironton because that's where I graduated. Ironton City Schools are now turning kids away during open enrollment because their classes are completely full. Vodoochild was correct when stating that the talent level will be down in a couple of years but it won't be because the enrollment has declined. Also, Vass was a sophomore on the 1989 State Championship team. He graduated in 92 not 93.

Really? The majority of school systems are declining in student population and Ironton is turning kids away? You sure about that cause I've looked at the numbers before and seems to me Ironton was declining as much as all the other schools.

Re: Irontons new coach is....
Ironton is not turning kids away but the past three years the kindergarten count has increased. This year Ironton started the year with about 144 kindergarten kids. That is the most in probably a decade or two. Sorry to disappoint, but the Demise of Ironton City Schools is a bit premature.
Re: Irontons new coach is....
Sorry to disappoint, but I don't think anyone really cares or means anything by this, it is simply a point of discussion. That said, turning open enrollment kids away and an increase in kindergarten numbers are not quite the same.

Playa, I was addressing your claim that Ironton is dropping in numbers. Simply not true, if you are talking about school system wide and not just 10-12
Re: Irontons new coach is....
Who are the new Football Coaches on the staff? I have heard there a few coaches not retunring this year. I know Coach Lutz and Mike are gone but who else is not retunring?

Congrats to Coach Vass! Played for him for 4 years while he was a an assistant. I believe he will be a great head coach. He knows the game so well.
Congrats to the Fighting Tigers for getting a great head coach.
Bob and Mike, I couldnt thank you enough for taking time out of your personal lives to help devolope me from a young kid to a man in just four years..I'm sure the rest of your former players all feel the same...

Just sayin...Didn't mean to be smart or anything. A coaches forum would be a cool addition.

Why no talk? As u.buck asks Who are the coaches now? Surely someone from Ironton knows! How many starters on offense and defense do they return?
