I think this will be a battle of the halfs.....Pt. will be a little nervous the first half, so GA gets the first half and leads 10-0. Second half belongs to Pt., final=Pt. 22 GA 16.

My understanding is that Point has gotten back to the days where they have more team speed. It should make things interesting.

I agree the points will be there for GAHS...I even got a little excited when I heard over the radio the words "I-formation" so many times...the defense has slow up the big blacks...

The O-line must block something besides air.
Agree that the D must tackle better.
First game history, get it done Devils.

Should be a good game. With just minor tweaks in the line it could vastly improve and they wouldn't be blocking air, most of the teams are going to have a better front 7 than Athens.

4ever, Good post, we have heard that for years, even in the past when we completed nearly 70% of our passes and exploded for big plays, everyone wanted to just run the ball. 32 trap! That is a good stat to point out and should eliminate some chatter. Our overall team strength should be our depth at the Rb spot with any of the guys capable of big plays/numbers on a given night. Still some teams will force us to beat them with the pass and we need to be able to when needed. I think after the initial drive and early success with the run the coaches may have tried to pass, especially in the 2nd and 3rd drives just to gain confidence and work on that aspect b/c I don't think they saw the game being as close as it ended, who would've considering the way we dominated the first half of play.

I say GA in a close one but Point is back on the rise from what I have heard. Maybe this year the muddy field will work to our advantage if we get the rain they have predicted.

Invited former PPHS Coach Steve Safford to visit the GAHS pressbox Friday night for a chat with newsmen and radio crews. Said he will be at the game. "Wouldn't miss it for anything," said Safford.

Safford and cousin Paul Eich (former GAHS Blue Devil in 1960s) are going to Miami's game Thursday in Oxford, Oh., then drive back to Gallipolis on Friday.

Caleb and Allan are talented football players but we've got a ton of other kids who are going to have great years that we are really excited about and think are going to be All-State caliber players. We have a trio of juniors that started last year on defense as sophomores (one of those on offense too) and they have all stepped up their game from a year ago not just on the field but off the field in the weight room. Clay Krebs (6-3, 275 pounds), Nathan Roberts (6'1, 180 pounds) and Derek Pinson (5'10, 170 pounds). We've got a good core of seniors on the line who are great leaders and play hard - Eric Veith, Matt Thompson, and Chase Liptrap, with a ton of experienced players elsewhere.

We've got another pretty fast kid that people tend to forget about too - Derek Mitchell, who also plays safety on defense. Great leader as well, one of our captains, and we feel good with him in the backfield.

Just hoping for a good game with no injuries.

GO BIG BLACKS!

Allan ran a 4.56 40 yard dash at the Ultimate 100 Combine in New Jersey earlier in the summer - a combine in which he was awarded the Overall MVP. He worked all summer on his speed and agility so he's quicker than that right now more likely than not.

The highlights from his performance at the camp is at the link below. Clay Krebs also attended this combine for sophomores.

Our season preview from WCHS is at the link below.

I just noticed, in that paragraph it said that his shuttle was 4.56 - but it was his 40 yard dash that was 4.56, not the shuttle. For some reason, the results link for the freshmen does not work . His shuttle was 4.91. Oh well, none of that matters, just putting that out there.

The #135 bench number is higher than that of the player that won best LB. That is very impressive for a youngster of his size and considering his position. I think the Point faithful are downplaying him somewhat but he could have a special season. Put on your mud shoes unless the weather really turns around.

God luck to both teams and hopefully they have an injury free game.

Go Blue!!

I thought that when the varsity played away, the freshmen team did also, with the Jv playing at home?
