It is strange how the tide turns on these things.

In 2006, with a comfortable lead in the fourth quarter, South Gallia put one of the senior starting defensive tackles into the game as fullback. He promptly ran over several Oak Hill second teamers en route to a 30 or 40-yard touchdown.

Everybody from Oak Hill thought that this act by Coach Burleson was pretty classless at the time. Of course, what the Oak Faithful didn't know was that the kid had played FB in the past, but hadn't gotten to carry the ball during his senior season because he has been in a severe automobile accident, almost lost his eye, and almost didn't get to play football that year.

Of course that kid wasn't going to lie down on one of the only chances he was going to get that year.

I wonder what the SG faithful don't know about things at Oak Hill and the game situation last Friday.

I guess the moral of the story is that maybe there is more than meets the eye to these things, and somebody is always ready to have their feelings hurt.

In the words of the immortal Mick Foley:

HAVE A NICE DAY!

IF YOU DONT WANT A TEAM TO SCORE ON YOU, STOP THEM!

Simply amazing.

No more posting for me this season.

There is no need to respond anymore. There is no cure for ignorance

Is it ignorance or just a different perspective?

Look at it like a wrestler or a sprinter or a shot putter. You either go out and get the job done or you don't.

I can see how that cold hard perspective on the world could apply to team sports.

We may not like it, but it could apply, and when we take the field, we must be aware that not everybody subscribes to the same ethic concerning acceptable margin of victory that we do.

When we step onto the field, we accept the possibility that we might get our arses handed back to us in thin slices.

Pig Faqer

Is it not the job of an offense to score and the job of a defense to prevent the other team from scoring?

No, not ignorance, just not the kind of person to sugar-coat things. I am sick of people saying "Well, (insert name), it's ok; you did your best"

Didn't Sean Connery's character in the Rock say something like: Losers always talk about doing their best;winners go f*** the prom queen!

PJ, you got it wrong. Ignorance can be fixed. It means someone doesn't know any better. But you can't fix stupid.
If OH gets a big lead (which I think they will in this game) and is STILL running the no huddle, passing every down with the first string on the field in the middle of the 4th quarter then yes, they are a bunch of classless dweebs. But if the "weenies" are in there, playing hard, and still scoring then more power to them. I think the former will happen, no decent coach worth breathing would try to embarrass an opponent. Green will play hard the entire game and with nothing to play for in week 11, OH will let those that haven't got a lot of snaps this year get some work in. Good luck to both squads, play hard, play fair and have a good time.

To Oaks fans this is what a friend of mine from Oak Hill had to say today, and ask me to post it on here because he doesnt have a username .He also doesnt get online much at all. This fellow is a diehard Oaks fan and tells it like it is.When Oak Hill was down a few years ago he made no excuses, told it like it was.He supports the Oaks in every sport not just football. He is very dissapointed in this season . He like many others I work with feel like the Oaks should have been better , not just in wins and losses but fundamentals. Blocking ,Tackling just overall basics of the game. The lack of adjustments made during the games. The kids didnt seem to be motivated in some games to play.He and others feel the only team that was better than the Oaks this season was Minford ,and they wasnt 41 points better than Oak Hill. All this said I think what is being said here from alot of folks is there needs to be a change and from what I am hearing there will be so dont be surprised when it does.

I myself didnt see a game in person ,but this guy I talk to on a regular basis never has said anything like this before so im inclined to beleive him. When Oak hill was strugling a few years back he wasnt critical at all just said all schools go through these times. He feels there is just too much talent now to have lost 3 games . This is just some opinions by a few guys I work with take it as nothing more .I said I would post it.

Motivation: As a former football player I never really had to be motivated by a coach come Friday nights! The simple pre-game rituals 3 & 4 hours before the games. The smell and sight of a freshly mowed football field when we arrived at the field, (home or away)! The silent but, deafening sounds of other players preparing for battle; sometimes in slow motion! The few moments that you zone out everthing and tune in to complete silence of how you were going to control your end of the game and the player across from you all night! Going thru and putting all of armour on just like I did the game before; in the same order, the same manner! And, finally; when they said lets go and the deafening sound of "Click-Clack" from all of the players cleats on the concrete below them! If nothing else fires you up... any ex-football player would get a certain charge out of "Click-Clack"! Whew! I wish I wasn't 42 and out of shape! I would throw that uniform on right now and bust some skulls! I would show you fired-up! And, that my friends... when one. Just one player gets jacked-up like that; it becomes contagious!

Minford as the only team better than Oak Hill?:
East also beat Oak Hill again this year! It may not have been in Minford fashion or comparable to the score East beat Oak Hill last year but, none-the-less another beat! And that makes 5 straight times! Last time OH beat East was in 2003; 32-14!

To much talent to lose 3 games!:
You are right! Oak Hill does have alot of talent! But, that talent is still relatively young! Now... I ask this question! If you get rid of this coach and get a new coach; and still don't get a SOC I Trophy; Are you going to blame the new coach? Are you going to second guess yourselves then about the coaching change? Playoffs! Oak Hill is a D5;R19 school. Four of your conference games are with D6 schools! Smaller D6 schools as well! Unless they can win all of their conference games and beat 4 or maybe even 5 of their non-conference games; if they are D5 or larger! You will have a hard time making the playoffs on a regular basis! East plays in the same conference. Oak Hill gives us nice points for playoffs! Northwest D4, Southeastern (Ross) D5 and everybody else is considered D6! If we don't win at least 8 or 9 games we possibly won't make the playoffs either! I don't beleive coaches are the only ones who put you in the playoffs; your AD has a big say in that in scheduling! Now, a good coach can put your players in a position to win playoff games! But, only if you can get there!

During the East and Oak Hill game this year @ Allard Park. Before the game people where saying that if the Oak Hill coach didn't win this game; there might be a rumble on the field! I said; "With the players?" They said; "No against the Oak Hill coach!" I thought man, he really is in the hot seat! That was Oak Hill fans making those comments!

I don't know the coach except for last year I was on the East coaching staff and heard his comments after the game last year! I thought he was a pretty sore loser myself! And, I won't get into the comments that he made! That won't solve anything now! I just don't know why? He stopped throwing the ball to the Hale kid last year! Oak Hill clearly had us out-matched in that position! Scored 2 touchdowns off of it! Also, was the only time we had to come from behind to win a game; all last year!

Didn't Oak Hill play its second-string QB and a lot of its reserves and weren't they waiting to snap the ball until the ref raised his hand (signaling 5 seconds left on the play clock)?

Booger, you and KarlAgathon both know that I am a die hard Rebel fan with one of my family members suiting up in the red and gold on Friday nights. I agree with you that it was the SG players' job to stop Oak Hill Friday night, not Oak Hill's coach. Here is my take on a beating like the one this past Friday night.

1) I HATE continuous clock 2nd halfs!! Everyone in that stadium pays the 5 or 6 dollars to get in and see a full length football game. Even my cousin that plays for SG gets p*ssed when they keep the clock running and he's on the team that's getting the beatdown.

2) I'm not condoning running up a score but eventually the losing team has to do something to stop the opposing team, IT'S THEIR JOB.

3) How is a team supposed to get better in sports and in life if they get treated like they are in Kindergarten and never take on adversity? Trust me, taking a beating in high school football is nothing like the way life can treat you further down the road. These young men need to be ready, not just on Friday nights but need to be ready to take on their futures.

4) If a coach decides not to let his foot up on the gas and doesn't call the dogs off, coaches will remember that later down the road and return the favor. It's called KARMA.

Again, I am an SG supporter and I didn't see anything wrong with what Oak Hill did to us this past Friday night, so why are people not even involved with the Rebels getting all bent out of shape? As I stated in an earlier post, let's take on Symmes Valley this Friday night, go watch some playoff games and then get ready for basketball season.

boilermaker,
Why all of a sudden are you against the Oaks coach? I am really suprised at you and your "friends" thoughts. I seriously used to think you actually understood high school sports and the band wagon jumpers....guess not.

Like I said before, you can teach and teach and preach. But you can never know what another person is going to do or think at one particular time

Padding stats? I help with stats and there were more kids running and tackling- in that game- that at one point -I had to take two pages to keep track of the all of happenings.

The kids are learning the system, nascar is a new phase of the program for the offense, when better to try new things.............??? when you are ahead or down with nothing to lose.

Wake up people, this is high school sports.........not the NFL.
I am just tired of hearing all of this crap......day in and day out.
Put your mouths with your team and your coaches, if you can't do that..........then take your ball and go home.
Or better yet, talk to the coaches---------hummmmmmmmmmm
Or remain skunks and just stink up the internet. It is easy to talk when no one is looking at you.

We have been involved with the youth for a long time and I would bet that many of you "fans" - do not have kids that you have coached or taught......still make it a point to call or come to your home when they are back in town --still give you a big smile and a hug each time you see them-- still treat you - as if you were family -------------
This that is what coaching is all about.

Hey coaches, I think we need to get an internet site - or just add a forum to this site--
for slamming teaching methods, administration decisions and rate fans on their cheering volume.
Wonder how that would go over..........LOL
DO YOU GET MY POINT ?
There has been one game - for a few minutes- that I have seen the fans get in to.........and actually cheer the players on.......................ONE!

Well, let's here it now.... On the hill, over the hill or around the hill.

This is what I think has happened.

Oak Hill was bad for so many years 2001-2006 or 7 that when people saw this group coming up they knew that this was a team that all hope and dreams would have to put into this team. Somewhat like the Bengals, Bengals were bad for so long that when they got Carson Palmer and Marvin Lewis and had flashes of brilliance that they were out of the cellar dweller years. Many felt that Oak Hill should have been able to win the league for 4 straight years. In our league, I don't think that that was an unreachable goal, so no fault in that for our fans. Coach Phillips I am sure had that has the goal, if nothis first year but the last two years I am sure it was on his mind.

I made it to only 4 games out of 10 this year so I am in no situation to judge the Oaks overall play at all. So in the games I watched the Oaks went 3-1 with that one loss to Peake. That game Coach Phillips took all the blame and I am sure would love to go back and play that one again. Even with that win the Oaks would be sitting at about 12th position in the region in regards to the playoffs. I am not even sure that if we beat East and Peake that we would be in the top 8. We would still be fighting Paint Valley, Minford, Fredericktown, and Ridgewood for that last spot. All of whom play bigger schools.
