Our coaches always told us to stay eligible. Do the things in the classroom that would keep your eligible. More often than not you ended up doing better than you thought you would.
Its ok to party, but make sure you make it to class. Oh yeah dont go out to get blasted just go out to have a few. When you set out to get wasted thats when trouble happens. Thats when you find yourself naked with only combat boots on walking around campus.

I have to agree with Geasy. Stick it out one year and the majority of the battle is over. Most times they don't give it a chance and either get home sick or upset over playing time. Keep the priorities straight and academics come first. Without them you do not participate in athletics.

Too often a student/athlete is not prepared for the shock of not being the elite player they are acustom to in HS. At this point they become a group of top ex-HS players and must work even harder to compete for a position. They must be prepared to deal with this issue among others.

If you are gonna do it, be 100%. If you are not POSITIVE you will not make it. If you go to a D-3 school you better LOVE the game. If you're on a scholarship, you better be able to stick it out. Lots of people will come and go and YOU need to DO YOU. If you liked high school football because of the game go, if you liked football because of your teammates then college probably isn't for you because you can't guarantee you will like your college teammates. Get to know the coaches personally before you go.

Dont drag your parents into any trouble. They worked TOO hard to get you there. Quit whining and grow up. Drink, smoke, party, whatever, dont drag you parents into it!! They dont deserve it and your 18 and a man! You will spend nights in jail in my family. Good luck tho if your smart, get good grades and can somehow get by the drugs, liqour, beer and BAD WOMEN that just somehow show up at your dorm room. Just remember, your parents didnt lead her to your room, they didnt force you to drink and smoke. They took you to the dorm and hoped for the best. Its up to you to say no, you wont, but a few years later, you will!!

Bottom line, beer is not LIFE! Drugs suck, and you ARE on your own. Call me if your DYING, if not, good luck, I am trying to get a retirement so I can live past 65!!

1. Make more friends than just the guys on the football team.

2. Never date a girl who says, "I didn't know you were on the football team. I just love football."

I would tell them to go where they can get the best education. Let's face it, how many are actually going to make a living playing football. Use your talent wisely and get an education in something that will be of use when you don't get drafted.
