Week 9--Warren Local (4-4) at Gallipolis (5-3)
Re: Week 9--Warren Local (4-4) at Gallipolis (5-3)
Getting lots of rain here in central Ohio. Weatherman calling for more through tomorrow.
Most would think a sloppy field would benefit GAHS. I lean towards that thinking, however there are those who think that a good passing offense has an advantage on the muddy field. The receiver knows where he is making a cut and the DB has to react to it. The DB can easily slip and go down when they react. Pressure on the QB is the best way to stop the passing game regardless of conditions.
Of course if you dominate time of possesion, that makes it hard for the opposition offense to score.

Hey Pappy & 83..... Missed the last 2 games and looking forward to this coming Friday.... Weather conditions will be a major factor this Friday... Whatever team handles it best will probably win the game... It has rained all night and still coming down pretty hard..... 7th & 8th graders have a doubleheader tomorrow night at home against Fairland.... Will probably do some damage to the field... Hopefully the weather will improve & Friday will turn out and be a dry day.....pappy1 wrote:Getting lots of rain here in central Ohio. Weatherman calling for more through tomorrow.

If the rain continues, Memorial Field may be inundated by Chickamauga Creek come Friday evening, putting the Blue Devils senior night game in jeopardy.
Sure wish we had our new field at Centenary. I'm still hoping to see a new stadium out there before hanging it up.
Teams like Jackson, Logan, Portsmouth, Oak Hill, Nelsonville-York, Pt. Pleasant, Lucasville Valley and others should be proud of their new facilities.

It's hard to believe, but Gallia Academy's football team is 1-3 at home this fall and 4-0 on the road. Very unusual.
Warriorfrosh...Just the center of Memorial Field and front of the players benches are like a swamp, quagmire or pigpen.
Some roads in Gallia County are already closed due to high water and it's still coming down at 7:35 p.m.

I think the schools above are proud of their facilities Jottings and I also hope you and other Blue Devil faithful are around to see the new one come to fruition. The older fan base and supporters deserve at least that much but the district better get on the stick soon or it'll be too late.Jottings wrote:If the rain continues, Memorial Field may be inundated by Chickamauga Creek come Friday evening, putting the Blue Devils senior night game in jeopardy.

Has the field ever been under water for a scheduled game? If so what happens?

Is the field under water? Any talk yet of moving the game? Not suggesting Warren, its a mess too. Maybe a neutral site with turf? Is Athens at home Friday? Maybe move the game to Saturday? Whatever happens, both teams have the same conditions.....

It's been close.... My memory is a little cloudy on this issue, maybe someone can help me out.... One year the water was up on the baseball field and we played Point that week. Shortly after the game water covered the field but was gone by Tues & the field was deemed safe to play the following week.... Not 100% sure!!!!!pappy1 wrote:Has the field ever been under water for a scheduled game? If so what happens?

It isn't underwater yet, or at least wasn't as of practice time last night, but with the amount of rain we've had and the forecast not calling for the rain to stop until after noon tomorrow, it might get that high. It is supposed to clear up and be sunny Friday afternoon and all day Saturday, so maybe moving the game to Saturday might be an option. It would certainly make for a better gate. If not, a good alternative site might be Oak Hill. They have a fantastic facility and are playing away this weekend.warriorfrosh wrote:Is the field under water? Any talk yet of moving the game? As a parent of a player, I'd hate to move the game to another site as we have senior/parents night planned for Friday and it will be my son's last game at Memorial Field.

According to the data at Racine & Robert Byrd locks & Dam we are not even close to flood stage... Looks like "Game On" as usual....

This game will be a muddy mess...which should favor the Blue Devils and their running game....VS. Warrens passing game..... I look for this game to be very low scoring...either way that comes out!!!

Warren's 3 losses not including Jackson have been by a combined 10 points....the Warriors are not hoping for a low scoring game....but how can you score if you have to try to move in mud up to your ankles???
Re: Week 9--Warren Local (4-4) at Gallipolis (5-3)
Some questions that will decide the outcome:
Can the Blue Devils consistently pressure Leffingwell? I don't think Warren is going to beat GA running the ball. The Blue Devil D is just too stout up the middle. If Warren is going to succeed, they're going to have to throw it around. Given enough time Leffingwell, Fivecoait and company will pick the D apart. The key is going to be to not give them time and to be physical at the line of scrimmage with the receivers to throw off initial route timing.
The other thing on D is going to be open field tackling. We've had VERY few teams sustain drives on our D. I can only really remember two and both were early in the year. Most of the scores have been big plays where we miss a tackle and just don't have the speed to catch anyone in the open field. If the receivers make a catch, we've got to get them down early.
Can the Blue Devils ground and pound on offense and chew up the clock? Two weeks ago against Chillicothe, the offense was excellent and we dominated the clock. Last week, we started out well, but Portsmouth made some adjustments in the second half and we didn't have any corresponding adjustment and were lucky to get out of there with a win. The best way to beat a prolific offense is to keep the ball away from them. Time of possession needs to be drastically in GA's favor in order for them to come out of there with a win.
Good luck to the Blue Devils!
