Trojans down to 4th and goal from the 7.
Lining up for a 35 yard field goal and it's blocked.

Re: Portsmouth @ Wilmington
Sounds like it was a heartbreaker for Portsmouth. Did they just try to sit on the lead through the second half?

Re: Portsmouth @ Wilmington
I listened to some of the 2nd half. Ptown was throwing the ball all over the place on Wilmington. I didn't get to listen to the 2nd half. Did Ptown go away from the pass in the 2nd half? If they did, that is just crazy?

Portsmouth is/has always been Ironton's arch-rival for years - so essentially whatever is "bad" for them is "good" for us - whether or not we happen to be in the same League/Conference at the time.
What Portsmouth does will indeed affect Ironton in the long run playoff points.
Sorry Trojans - but go Hurricane! And even more GO IRONON FIGHTING TIGERS when we meet later.

Re: Portsmouth @ Wilmington
3 fumbles & and INT (all on our side of the field) basically at the end of the 3rd and in the 4th quarter ........plus the special team miscues doomed the Trojans.......tough loss.......dominated them for 3 quarters......then the wheels fell off.

Re: Portsmouth @ Wilmington
I'd place this loss squarely on the shoulders of the coach. Going 0 for 4 in XPs after you've had a year, at least, to groom a decently proficient XP kicker should be completely unacceptable. Had Portsmouth made even ONE of their XPs, the game would never have gone into overtime and they would have won.
The same thing is likely to happen to Ironton as I read where they were unsuccessful on 3 of 4 two point conversion attempts against an undersized and inexperienced team. That will likely bite them somewhere down the line when they come up against a formidable opponent and really need those points..... as was the case with Portsmouth tonight.

Re: Portsmouth @ Wilmington
How in the world did they block a field goal attempt that was executed 18 yards behind the line of scrimmage and an even bigger question is what kind of kicking formation does Portsmouth have? :122246Burg_Grad_77 wrote:Trojans down to 4th and goal from the 7.

Re: Portsmouth @ Wilmington
Radio said Portsmouth's defensive front wore down. Smitty said on the one td that the d-line was 2 yards in the end zone. Portsmouth likes to bring LB's and play really aggressive from that 4-4. It probably took Wilmington a while to adjust their blocking schemes.
Fumbles sounded like they killed Portsmouth.
Did Jordan get hurt? The backup was playing at the end.

No one sets the kicker that far back. Roger Gray said the ball was set down at the 25 yard line which makes it a 35 yard attempt. But then again it was Roger Gray so it could have been set on the 15 and only a 25 yarder. He's really good at screwing up the ball placement. That would make more sense since I believe the ball was at the 7 with 4th and goal.
Re: Portsmouth @ Wilmington
plain and simple....5 turnovers beat us...2 of them gave the hurricanes the ball inside their 20 yard line....I honestly was worried about our defense in this game,,even though they gave up all the points in the 4th ,,,you cant lay it al on the D when the O kept giveing them the ball in great field position.....The Q B is fine,,he was cramping and thats why the back up was in.
hpe Johnny Charles is OK , he was running te ball and his helmet came off at the end of the run in the pile,,from where I was sitting looked like a kids knee went right down on his face and he was taken out in a squad.
Zaides kicking will be fine,,the line just has to give him time.....he done a great job on kickoffs wit 3 in the endzone....
I hate going to Wilmington...hope we are done with them.

Re: Portsmouth @ Wilmington
I agree dowgg......the turnovers doomed the Trojans. It ALL can't be blamed on the D.....twice out of the 4 TO's in the 4th , the D held.....plus we didn't let them gain in overtime and forced them to make the 35yd field goal.......we shot ourselves in the foot with way too many penalties as well.
On a brighter note, Johnny's mom said he should be okay...a concussion.
